Having hired cars worldwide this has to be the worst company. The pick up in Gibralter is not meet and greet as stated, we walked over the border and visited every car hire company to try to find marbesol....no sign. We called and waited over 1 hour (and probably for the easy jet flight to land so they don't have to make more than 1 journey) for a man to take us to the dodgy underground car park of a hotel. We were charged as everyone is a ridiculous price for a tank of fuel and 800 euros... (read more)

After 2 hours waiting they gave us a car. We drove into another town 2 hours away and the next day we couldn't start the car. A local mecanic looked at it and said the battery was beyond repair and needed to be changed. First and last time I will use Marbesol. You are advised to give them a wide berth. I was forced to use them due to a late change in my booking with Arguscarhire (Car Trawler) and therefore gave them the benefit of a chance even after seeing the reviews. Just returned from Spain, and I'm amazed that a company this awful is still trading, given the state of the Spanish economy. Would advise to avoid. Pick on Gibraltar/Spain border was ok but drove half a mile to a hotel where he said the drop off should be. If I'd known that I would have not chosen them. When I asked how we get back to pick up point he suggested we should walk (pregnant wife, 2 kids + lots of luggage). In the end took a taxi (5 euro). We booked the car hire on-line through Rhino Car Rental, as we have used them before and found they were great, competitively priced and encountered no problems. At the airport we struggled to find where to go to collect the car, and if we had blinked, we would have missed the rep in a sea of reps with clip-boards. Having returned from Malaga two weeks ago, the deposit has still not been refunded although we were told it had been refunded the date of returning the car. My Credit Card company have taken this matter up for me. We have recently rented from Marbesol and on 2 seperate occasions had to pay 800 euro deposit,despite taking out additional insurance. Whilst most companies hold your credit card details incase of damage,Marbesol actually take the money from your account. If this isnt bad enough they then take a week to refund your money! Oh and by the way,dont bother e mailing them because you wont receive a reply!They may be cheap but I certainly wouldnt use them again (read more)

Don’t touch this so called company with a barge pole, I found myself around £75 out of pocket after they broke their own terms & conditions & took 800 euros from my Barclaycard without my permission, It took me six weeks to get this back. I also paid 100 euros for three quarter tank of fuel. The car, which I was told was an upgrade wasn’t fit to be on the road. Rented a car from Marbesol for 2 weeks from a link via Malaga airport guide to cartrawler, upon arrival at airport we were promptly transferred to the marbesol office where we waited 45 minutes to be dealt with whilst numerous other customers (presumably members of a vip scheme) who arrived after us were served. We returned from holiday 4th February 2013 and have not received a refund as of 16th Feb 2013 of £805.25. I have contacted my credit card company today to lodge a dispute as i believe that they will not refund it unless i ask for it. There is no reason whatsoever why they should have taken any money from my credit card as i did not purchase any goods or services from them. It was not explained to me that this would happen when hiring the car, i was informed they would keep a copy of my credit card details only. Why take this money when the car was insured anyway??
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. Use a reputable company, you may pay a little more but you'll have peace of mind.
What i find breathtaking is that the Malaga Airport Guide recommend this company on their website!

This company (Marbesol) is not situated in the Airport, they pick you up outside. But, forget to advise you of this fact! The cars are older and have done quite a lot of motoring, the vehicles are poorly maintained, damaged and grotty inside. Customer service is zero with this company. I had a 5 year old Focus 1.6 petrol with 70,000kms on the clock. I agree entirely. I never write reviews about things, but this time having returned from holiday today I feel sufficiently motivated to let people know that they should avoid this company. It would seem that these cars are at the end of their life and then land up with this company. The rental site is off-airport, along with their very slow and useless staff making the whole experience a poor start to any holiday. Avoid... pay a little more and get real rental cars that are safe and work properly (and are clean, not covered in dents, etc.)

As per other reviews we rented a car in July 2012, the car was very very badly damaged, I've never seen anything like it before. The condition was shocking. We nevertheless took it and managed to get to Torremolinos only for the gearbox to start to make strange noises. We drove back to Malaga and exchanged it for an equally badly damaged car, but at least the gears worked. Stay away! We ordered Ford focus, but got a Fiat which was really a wrack. Horrible to drive so we used it minimal, because we was afraid that the car would break. The clutch was really bad, so it was hard to get the car running. We couldn't see one single Ford in the parking area, so I guess they don't have it at all. I was satisfied I had a good deal UNTIL I got there! I was charged 87 euros for fuel for a Clio 1.2 that costs no more than 50 euros to fill! Took 2 hours from arriving at the airport to actually getting the car. Despite being assures by the broker that this was an on airport pick up, it was a minibus, which was infrequent. On arriving at the office, it then took 30 mins to be seen. Very very bad customer service, only 2 staff at collection point after a fight to get a lift from the airport terminal to the pick up point. Then had a 50 minute queue to get the paperwork done! On top of this had to pay for a full tank of fuel which for some reason was £90 and an £800 deposit! Can not believe this I had the same treatment almost word for word.
Fill tank of diesel 97 euros when I am only having car for one week, tried to explain and the guy just said in small print not my problem.
Car was one size bigger and was a bin, no trims and bashed to hell and back . Also had to wait when picking up and returning car. Depot is too far away from airport.
No deposit back yet and I return car half full i bet they will charge the next person for the half tank again.
I used espacar for my first car hire in gibraltar and they were brilliant

Do not book with this company it may seem cheap but i had to pay an 800 euro deposit and the refund i got was £100 difference. The car was a shed scratches bumps i would say unsafe on the road thank goodness we were not going far. As like many others, I booked a car through Arguscarhire and as normal didn't concern myself with taking out the Insurance as I wasn't looking to use the car much over the 7 days there. Getting picked up at the airport was bedlam as either your cases went and you didn’t, or you did and your cases didn’t. Marbesol used to be the best and I would recommend them to all my friends. NOT NOW! Earlier this year they introduced a new pricing regime and a full/empty strategy unless you take their expensive allinclusive insurance policy. If the full/empty strategy wasnt bad then look at what they charge for a tank of petrol. I took delivery of a KIA Picante with a fuel tank that holds 35 litres. They charged 80 euros!!!!! Absolute garbage booked on Internet fuel so expensive and they charge your credit card with the deposit in euros which attracts a fee and then the refund attracts a fee, the booking was an original cost of £35 which turned out to be £160 including fuel. Hired a car from these cowboys over internet.(Marbesol or New Cars , Costa Del SOL.s.l.) Looked a decent company with decent cars........how wrong can one be. Rented us a car - it broke down 4 miles outside the airport on a motorway. When we rang them to get picked up they told us we'd taken the wrong car (even though they'd provided it). Tooks them 2 hours to send someone 4 miles down the road cuase they were too busy to send someone straight away. Put a deposit charge on our car of around 800 euro. The car-park comes is like one in Russia. All the cars are old and dented. Cars aren't clean! I can't imagine the cars to be technically in a good condition and/or road save. Dear Sirs, Rent a car with Marbesol Malaga !!! Opel Corsa : 116.300 km ! (Advertising NEW CARS COSTA DEL SOL) - totaly unsafe car - totaly overdone tires, dangerous !! - totaly damaged car - bad power engine - rear wiper with tape fixed - strange sound while taking curves (scary in the mountains) - 'respostado' payement in advance - 87 € + 18 % tax, only 250 km drive.. What an awful experience from beginning to end. Our friends booked the car hire and we thought all was going to be ok. The mini bus picks you up from the Airport which is a shambles itself. You finally get to the car hire place and we waited about 2hours. It was awful to see the confusion, very little staff and the cars shuffling around the very small spaces and people very angry. We booked our car through Rhino Car Hire online which lead us to our Marbesol booking. (I have emailed Rhino this information so they know how bad the service is and the potential damage in promoting this company)The company is off site and not at the airport and picks you up in a minibus that shuttles back and forth.(you may be lucky enought to get on this at the 4th attempt or so if you are cheeky enough to barge through all the passengers also waiting for this service on a bus that seats... 1. The car we rented had more than 100.000 km on the dial 2. The car was dirty inside and outside 3. The car was damaged on the outside on several places, well documented though 4. “Very bad car rental company”

I recently rented a car from Marbesol and my experience was really bad. We received an old car Opel Corsa with already 90.000 km. Furthermore the service is really bad. The car had serveral defects, such as bad battery and large deviation to the right. The personell is unfriendly. In low season you still have to wait for over a hour to get your car. The process for one rental car takes almost 20 minutes and needs no less then TEN signatures. The is really ridiculous and can go a lot faster. ... (read more)

SHOCKING COMPANY
I think i just had your car or its brother, shocking service, was 4th in queue and waited an hour, then CHARGED 800 EURO deposit..
Car had damage all over, nugget burns on seats, break pads shot, you could here the disks grinding when breaking...
Car was suppose to be FULL, then was 3/4 so took lady ages to sort it out, after 12 KMS car suddenly showed HALF FULL, later it showed FULL, then quater FULL... I email and called and guy laughed..
On return car park was FULL, shuttle vans and cars struggling to get out...
I asked when do i get depsoit cancelled, lady said when i go back into office, 24 hours later its still on credit card...
NEVER AGAIN.....
Rather pay extra and go Hertz....
Stay away....

Waited 1.5 hours to get the car what a joke, car was the worst on site, wipers had to be changed, we then asked for the washer bottle to be filled up water poured straight through becasue the bottle had a hole in the bottom! We were charged 80 euro for fuel that is a 100% profit. After three days hire the car over heated, so we contacted Marbesol, they sent a tow truck to collect he car and we got a taxi down to collect another car, we were again charged again for fuel? so we are out of... We have used Marbesol car hire too. We took the car back on 11th April 2013. We were told everything is fine money will go back into your account, but 16 days later still there has been no money gone back into my account. I have e-mailed them & am waiting for a reply. I have also e-mailed Argus car hire, who we booked it through,& am waiting for a reply from them too. We are going back to Malaga in August, if the money has not gone back into my account by then. First stop will be a call to Marbesol. Not happy at all.

Similar here. Finally got the money back - after ten days, two emails and one call! It seems I was lucky anyway...
