“Looks Good, durability rubbish.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by idCunningham396 on 05/05/2017

This kettle looks good, boils quickly, has a great capacity but it has a limited life. The hinges on the lid will break and then the kettle is no longer safe to use. Our experience has been - broken lid and kettle replacement in under 18 months. Other reviews have shown breakages within a few months of purchase. For a circa. £50 kettle this is a rubbish product. We will not be buying Morphy Richards products again, I would suggest that you also avoid them.

Do not buy Russell Hobbs kettles! Some of them get very good reviews but they do not last long like mine.
I am very disappointed with their glass kettle model 15082. It did not even last full two years without malfunctioning. I hate the idea of trowing it away after such short period of time and increasing landfill.

I bought my kettle on 20 October 2014. For nearly two years the kettle functioned really well until at the end of summer 2016 it began to malfunction; just would not start to boil. These occasion were more and more frequent but every time I managed the kettle by just moving it around the stand /base element. I did not have time to follow the issue and did not suspect that it may get worse. Unfortunately it got really worse; the kettle suddenly stopped working at all on the 6th of April 2017. A few days later I called customer services but was just told that because I purchased the kettle more than two years ago they cannot help me.

Most recently I have had the kettle examined by an independent technician, who strongly confirmed that the central pin at the bottom of the kettle was never properly attached therefore in time the pin started to recede and would not connect with the stand/base.

Shouldn’t Russell Hobbs be interested to examine the faulty product to find out what the problem was in order to improve the quality? Failure to do this indicates not only poor customer care but lack of interest in improving quality, lack of respect for the environment as items like this end up discarded.

“You'll regret buying this kettle”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MosheClarke on 05/11/2016

Nice looking kettle. Tick. Quick boil. Tick. Durable. Not at all!!! Avoid this kettle at all costs. The lid will break within a few months and, although it SHOULD be a serviceable part, RUSSELL HOBBS don't supply this part. The lid will break, there is no question about that. what is more concerning is that RUSSELL HOBBS continue to sell this product despite this obvious defect. Search online, and review page, you'll see that this has been an issue for virtually everyone who bought it, and yet they persist in selling it and don't supply replacement parts. One star is too much for this!

“The lid breaks but you can fix it.”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 29/02/2016

Beautiful looking kettle that is an icon of design. However it seems to be obvious there is a design fault in that the plastic hinge gets brittle and breaks after about a year. I complained to the manufacturer who without a word happily sent me a replacement. Alas a year later the hinge has broken on the second one. But rather than throw it away I have carefully dismantled the top. Having found a small 25 mm nob online I drilled a hole and put it on the upper lid. By snapping off the remainder of the broken hinge the kettle is now back in action. Only difference is you take the top off to fill it rather than having it hinged. You still use the locking mechanism but the lid lifts off and clips back on. But you think a major reputable manufacturing name like Russel Hobbs would get a solution for this problem because they certainly are aware of it and it cannot be that hard to fix a plastic hinge? Anyway that is beyond my control but this fix will keep your kettle working. Sorry to misspell nob but the modesty taliban have banned the correct spelling.

“New replacement kettle under warranty”

★★★★☆

written by on 02/08/2015

I contacted Russell Hobbs about my broken kettle lid and, it's true they don't supply a replacement, but they told me they would replace it with a nearly identical Brota model free of charge under their 2 year guarantee. They needed no proof of purchase date but just asked for the serial number on the base. They are allowing free replacement for items manufactured up to 2 1/2 years ago as items may sit on shop shelves for a while. A new kettle arrived free within 4 days of my call to their customer services

“LID COMES APART!!....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gill1986 on 18/04/2014

This product looks great and especially like the blue light when boiling. However the two halves of the plastic lid come apart at the point where the screws hold them together. It seems the plastic just deteriorates over time and eventually the two halves of the lid separate.

“Expensively poor pouring kettle”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DoctorData on 07/04/2014

Bought this as a quick buy as our previous kettle gave up the day before I was due in hospital. It was a little difficult to pour and water spread out to the sides of the spout. This resulted in water on the worktop. The lid was stiff and often was not pushed home completely allowing lots of steam out when it boiled. We put up with that but wish we had taken it back. The first anniversary is due in a week and the lid has fallen off completely. Very poor design, poor value for money as it was not the cheapest in the pack, and poor manufacturer quality. DO NOT BUY this kettle under any circumstances.

“Total Rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DavidEbbs on 14/03/2013

We now own our third 15082, the others were replaced under warranty. This one has FAILED in exactly the same way as the others. There is a fundametal fault in the design of the lid which causes it to be pushed towards the spout when the lid release 'trigger' is operated. The lip of the lid then fouls the rim of the kettle and sticks. Obviously all an operator will do is push the trigger harder to release the lid not realising that the locking mechanism is being damaged and the hinges are being over stressed. End Result. After about three months of daily (but not hard) use the lid drops off. No spares are available or can be fitted. Replacement kettle is the only way out. Couple the above to the speed that the exterior deteriorates - Scaling, black plastic blanches, and metalwork festers and its basically rubbish. Third kettle until the original 12 months warranty expired. Now fit for the bin. Couldn't give the thing away.

“Russell Hobbs 15082”

Good points - great looking kettle and fast boiling. Not cheap, good brand name so expected better. To pour out is terrible, no matter how you try to pour slowly, it will be either all or nothing! The spout needs to be lower down, yes I know it is glass body, but could and should be lower spout. You need to tilt kettle to quite an angle before you get any water. Would not recommend and had I been aware of this, would not have purchased. Phoned Russell Hobbs, who said they had no previous complaints, - reviews state differenly! In other words they did not want to know. Do not waste your money on this one.

“As an expensive end of the market kettle, this must...”

★★☆☆☆

written by rosalan on 08/10/2010

As an expensive end of the market kettle, this must rank as one of the worst I have owned. Looks good, easy to clean, boils quickly BUT no matter how you try, it is almost impossible to pour without either overspilling or using the very smallest of streams. The design function in this department is a disaster. If it had not cost more than £50 from Argos, it would be in the bin by now. Sorry Russell Hobbs but it is the truth.
