I have had this vacuum now for approximately a month. After being used to a Dyson, I was pleasantly surprised at the powerful cleaning and suction on this vacuum. Then the niggles started. I can't always separate the metal tube from the hose to enable me to vacuum the stairs and have broken one of the clips trying to separate it. The brushes constantly fall off the holder and I now keep them separate to the vacuum cleaner. The angle on the small turbo brush makes it hard work to use. ... (read more)

This is without doubt the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever used. The only positive point is that it has very good suction power. negatives are:- It is heavy to use and very unbalanced. It will fall over very easily and is almost impossible to keep upright when using the tools. The handle is poorly designed and very uncomfortable to use made worse of course by the fact is so heavy and awkward to use. As Blur had it, Modern Life is Rubbish, and the Vax C89-P6-B Power 6 Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner is a piece of consumer goods that that punches well above its weight in contributing to that experience. My partner bought this, not from Amazon, from where I should have, but from Curries. Quite soon after buying it it began overheating and cutting out. Had this thing 2 days and it's going back. Sucked like a beast for about 5 minutes then cut out. It NOW says there is a blockage thanks to the helpful "it's not working properly" light on the back. Left it overnight and cleared soft and hard filters and guess what? It cut out after 5 minutes again. I have a cat, but as far as this thing is concerned I may as well have 4 lions and have been hoovering the lawn. Pants. (read more)
“worst vacuum ever!”

I have a short haired dog but this vacuum cannot handle the hair on my floor. within a month of normal use it started to block up for no reason, it fires the filter out of the back every 5 mins. Even after dismantling it and cleaning it shuts itself down after two mins use. It gets so hot it has started melting it's own filter! I have never left a review of anything before but this vacuum is so bad I felt I had to warn people! (read more)

IVE HAD THIS HOOVER LESS THAN 7MONTHS AND IM ON MY 2ND REPLACEMENT HOOVER AND THIS ONE HAS JUST PACKED UP AFTER 3MONTHS!! SEVERAL REPLACEMEMT PARTS AND THEY WONT REFUND!! There's nothing I like about this Vax Power 6 Pet cylinder cleaner. It's heavier than I'd expected, the hose keeps twisting around itself or the cleaner or me. To empty the dust container, there are two parts which need emptying separately. All the buttons and twist-locks are infuriatingly stiff. Removing the hose is a nightmare: two tiny little "buttons" must be squeezed together on either side to release the hose, they are fiddly and stiff and hurt my hands. I have read some of the recent reviews. They are too recent, wait until you have used the Vax for a while. You will be OK if your pet is a hamster or maybe a snake! We have had 4 replacement turbo heads because Vax say they should work. They don't! Obviously with any pet type cleaner you have to remove the hairs that collect around the brush, but with these you have to dismantle the whole head because the bearings and belt get so clogged up the turbo siezes up. It's not very often that I only have positive things to say about a Vacuum cleaner but the Vax power 6 is my favourite yet! We live in a small flat and don't have too much space to store a large upright vacuum cleaner so this cylinder size is perfect for us. One thing I really love about this hoover is the length of the flex, I find that I only need to change the plug once during my flat sweep as the flex is really long as is the hose making cleaning time takes less time! “fab on dog hair”

This is a fabulous hoover for picking up dog hair.I have two German Shepherds, who shed terribly on a daily basis, which means that I have to hoover the house at least once a day!!! The Vax Power 6 has excellent suction and has cut down on the amount of time I spend hoovering as it collects all hair etc quickly and effectively. It is easy to empty the easy to manoeuvre around the house. Would definitely recommend this hoover. (read more)

For such a small machine, it has one powerful suction. My dog sheds fur for fun and this picks up his fur no problem at all! Nothing is missed! The attachments are superb. I like the good range provided. The vacuum is good to manoeuvre and it makes the job easy and quite enjoyable. It is easy to clean. The Vax Power 6 Pet is a light, very powerful and beautifully inexpensive model vacuum cleaner. It was effective at picking up the fur from my 3 cats. Was really amazed when I viewed the amount of fluff and dirt I saw in the bagless cylinder after using it for only a minute. The long hose and cord were also great on the main stairs. When the Vax Power 6 came it was very easy to unpack and get started. I did have some problems with the turbo brush as it would not seem to turn all of the time but it was very easy to fix has the brush comes apart with such ease for cleaning. The Vax Power 6 itself seems to be very powerful with 3 power settings which is a very handy feature as I can turn it down to suit the room I am in at the time. This hoover is fab - small, compact, good looking but really powerful. It picks up cat hairs even when not on full power and the additional turbo brush can be used on carpet to pick up any stubborn pet hairs. However there's nowhere on board to store this and the other additional tool- they tend to fall off the hoover when using it, which is a little irritating. When i first put it together i was slightly annoyed that there were so many extensions for it and the instructions didn't really tell me what they were all for and that there isn't anywhere on the hoover to keep them all so i would have liked a holder for all the parts. That has been my only problem with it and after using it the issues with the extensions were soon forgotten. I have never been able to get rid of all the dog hairs off my dark carpet but this hoover managed it effortlessly... (read more)

I would have given this 5 stars right down the line, but isn't there always room for improvement? For such a compact cleaner, the suction is amazing. In fact, I find I have to open the hose vent on my longer carpets. I have a friend with a cat allergy and she has noticed a huge difference since I've had this vacuum. Many people commonly think that if you want a small cylinder vacuum, and the Power 6 Pet is as dinky as they come, that you will forego power and suction. Having used this machine now I'm amazed by just how powerful it is, this vacuum sucks! It sucks big time!! The powered brush in the head is suction controlled, not electric so you'll want to keep the head clean but this is easy to do. A very sturdy vacuum cleaner, with impressive suction power. On the first use, my living room rug actually looked clean (we have a cat and a dog!), it hasn't looked like that for a long time with our old machine despite regularly changing the filter, and to see the pet hair etc drawn into the cylinder on the first few sweeps was also very impressive and satisfying
It also comes with a range of attachments that work well with no apparent loss of suction power and the cable length is more...

I am a 49yr old lady am registered disabled and have fibromyalgia, in the past have found it very difficult to use a hoover THAT IS UNTIL NOW - I am currently testing the Vax Power 6 pet U90-P6--P It is fabulous it is very light and nifty to use and glides with ease. As an upgrade from a 1600w (pet)cylinder, this is awesome. You can really use the 2200w of power suction, it pretty much sticks to the carpet & pulls all the dirt/hair out. Nice long power cord allowing decent distance cleaning, massive container, well worth the investment. Carpets are visibly cleaner, this really does work against kids & pets. Build quality remains to be seen but seems strong enough in all the right places, only down side i have found is overall weight & balance. (read more)

The vax power 6 pet vacuum cleaner is awesome. The suction is superb. I previously owned a cylinder cleaner for ease of carrying up and down stairs and for light weight use on the stairs. With this machine the long hose and extended wand reaches all the stairs easily. I have 2 black labradors and a 3 year old boy, beige/cream carpets on the stairs and first floor, slate floor on the ground floor with a very deep shaggy rug, I thought I was doing a good job with my old cleaner as needed... i got this hoover yesterday, it took me approximatley 5min to assemble. only one issue the attachement holder for the turbo tool, is not pre-attached and the manual does not tell you how to attach it, but its is a simple slide over the handle and attach the tool to the front of the machine.

I bought this Vax Power 6 Pet as a replacement to my dyson and really wished I hadn't.
It is heavy, hard to use and is unstable.
Before I bought a new one I did my research and this one came out on top for power and performance. The only good thing about this hoover is the suction power.
I have beige carpets and a black lab and 2 young boys. I have to hoover everyday to keep the carpets looking fairly clean but with this hoover I have to go over the same bit of carpet 3 or 4 times to get it...

Thats so funny as mine does exactly the same thing and I have a cat.I have to agree with all the comments that you have made, ive just cleaned everything again and yes the bck has blown off again. I wanted to return it but cant find the receipt which is not like me to lose them.
