I've been running this Sony STRD-B940 5.1 amp with a Panasonic A360 DVD player. I have Mission 702e floorstanders at the front, Mission 77c1 centre and Mission 771e rears. Great detailed sound with no need for subwoofer due to floorstanders and the Sony need never be set above 2 or 3 really as there's so much power to fill my 5mx 4m room. I really haven't heard anything that comes close apart from maybe the Sony STRD-B 930. Just a great amp all in.

Absolutley right! I've had an STR-DB940 for nine months, connected to Mission M73's, M7DS's, M7C2 and a REL Q150E. It's a fantastic amp, even when compared to TAG McLaren kit. I'm sure that there was no better amp for the money available. It's such a shame Sony chose to discontinue in favour of 6.1 - something I won't be participating in - six speakers in my lounge is more than enough!

Read the review, agreed, the amp is very good day to day use. A real solid reliable item. But it just will not play music that stirs the soul. I had the str930, then the str940,with a variety of kit. Gone back to hi-fi for real music, but now use a yamaha processor. happy at last.
