“Terrible after-sales service”

Same problem as others with female sales rep who was unable to work out costs accurately - the 'cheaper' option was worked out to be more expensive. Post-fitting, the service department manager was rude, argumentative, did not follow through to complete actions which they agreed to on the phone. Service staff were very poor at returning calls. “Disappointed with my recent experience ”

I have recently placed another order with Smiths after already having houses done by in the pasted. I am disgusted with the after sales service I have received this time around and with the attitude of certain members of staff at Smiths. “Avoid smiths terrible after sales ”

Not happy with after sales, guys who did the job were good but unfortunately my stable door is not closing due to a fault in the hinge. Spoke to the manager who was very rude and hung up, asked us to only make contact via email. We explained we can could not lock the door. Very rude and not helpful at all. Would never recommend this company to anyone. They expect use to leave the door open and carry on with life, these people have no understanding and don't offer any advice. I'm afraid this is the all too common experience when using this company, as it mirrors mine. I know their management views the comments on here, to the point of asking my factual and balanced review to be removed. It's therefore clearly a conscious decision to offer zero after sales or customer care. This is a real shame as the fitters were great.

We urge anyone to not go near Smiths. 3 days after our windows were installed they needed replacing which took weeks to be sorted. Staff are extremely rude and unprofessional. We also had to have 3 front doors fitted as all were of such a poor standard. This took 5 months to sort out as Smiths do not offer any after sales service. Avoid this company at all cost, they have ruined my home & garden due to inexperienced poor work men . They uncovered a 300mm storm drain whilst building a conservetry, they just poured concrete onto the drain . Update smiths have left my property unfinished and in a terrible state . They have left a skip on my drive , been there for over 4 weeks it is over flowing . Skip company will not remove it Because Smiths Glass have not paid the bill . Shocking

Recently had a set of Bifold doors measured and the sales person a lady was nice. Took the Barclays finance out all set up and waiting for the doors to be fitted . A few days before fitting I was ringing SMITHS and I new something was not right. Smiths said he had got to cancel our contract because Smiths had under priced over £2400, I was so upset how can a company set up finance and draw up a contract.Really unprofessional Company. Paid deposit 23rd Oct 2015. 4th Nov 2015 surveyor did measurements for all 6 windows to be fitted. 19th Nov 8am -9am arrived at property for installment, but was cancelled as windows not ready. 8th Dec 8am windows to be fitted, was cancelled as windows were completely wrong. We had them round to give us a quote for fascias and a new front door and back door. We were originally quoted £7,000 (or thereabouts), she then rang her boss who gave us a standby offer for the work to start 11th January, and if we accepted that night it would cost £4,050. I am sorry to hear of your experience, unfortunately on this occasion our representative had made a mistake in her pricing and the work would not be commercially viable for us to carry out for you using the high quality products that we use on every installation. I can assure you that we will have used every resource available to us to make the work viable as we would rather our van outside your home than that of a competitor.
I apologize that you were not informed in better time however as I am sure you can appreciate the offices were closed over the Xmas holiday period and you were informed at the first opportunity that we were unable to carry out the work for you based on the price quoted.
I apologize again for any inconvenience caused to you.

If you make a mistake, and it's something that we've shook hands on and signed a contract for, then I would expect a professional company to honour it regardless if it was viable or not.

Awful, just awful. I urge everyone to steer well clear, I have only myself to blame, a couple of years ago I had smiths quote me for gutters fascias and soffits, well they tried to, in fact they sent out an office bod who knew nothing about estimating at all, his excuse was "they sent me to honour the appointment as the estimator has gone home" so a complete waste of time as he couldn't give me a quote. I am very sorry to learn of your experience and can tell you are very angry at the situation by your review, I have spoken with the departments involved and have been told that our installers are on site as I type this completing the work for you. As you know the weather in the last few days has not been kind to us and has caused our fascia installation teams to over run slightly of which I am told you were informed, due to the nature of working at height if conditions do not allow it we are unable to as the health and safety of our installers is paramount to us.

Sales guy visits end of March (60% deposit paid), promises installation in April of windows they manufacture themselves.. April passes us by and I start to chase Smiths for installation date. I am put through to an answer machine every time I call and no one ever calls back. Finally I get a June installation date for the 3 day job. Smiths tried to have this review taken off. All content has been proven to be true. After making the best part of this year the most stressful time of my life, they have the nerve (and resources) to inflict more upset. How about spending less time on researching and trying to remove bad reviews and invest more energy into customer focused services and a bit of quality control on 'goods in'! You might start repairing your bad reputation.

I had another £30k's worth of work to be done, which they will NOT be doing. Mine and my partners friends, family, colleagues and the people who live in our street who witnessed first hand the installation will NOT be using Smiths. I haven't even started on FB yet!

my current experience is quite similar. Consistent lying, disappointment, Sales people who give you promises and no one takes responsibility. Unfair treatment to a customer. Definitely not worth the hassle.

It appears that every customer on here a has an alarmingly similar experience. I know they check this site, so the only conclusion I can come to is that Smith's management just doesn't care about providing a quality service.

Hi all yes we had the same experience and took a year from beginning to end for our work to be completed. Was chased for payment when the work was clearly not finished and electrics certificate not provided. They were due to be taken back to court by Trading Standards this week but it was postponed will post new date in case you would like to know what happens Document all contacts made ideally by letter or email as this will help should you need to take it further which is what we resorted to.

I am not surprised, I had the misfortune of buying a conservatory from smiths. Constant leaks and blown glass steamed up windows. They can't measure for toffee as they bring the wrong size then clear off Having done nothing. I am still waiting 8months for them to replace faulty Windows under their so called guarantee. Amazingly Smiths put in a formal request to Review Centre to remove this appraisal of my dealings with their company.

Thankfully, based on (one sided) email traffic I could prove that the account given of my frustrated and repeatedly fruitless attempts to get anyone in management to talk to me was a genuine reflection of my experience.

It’s a pity they concentrate their efforts in supressing their customer’s views rather than addressing the real issues, which would appear to be, very poor customer service!

I have had nothing but problems with my conservatory from day one. Workmen I cannot fault but the after sales has been the worst I have ever come across, and I have had a lot of work done on my property. Likewise. Same problems with a small window that had blown. Three months of endless phone calls, non returned calls, person need to speak to never there, and so it goes on. Eventually when the window replaced, chipped and lead pattern wrong colour. Not there at the the time, or I would have not accepted it.

I know it is so bad, it does not take long to reply by email or return someone's call just out of common decency. The aftersales is just diabolical. What they seem to forget is that we are the customers and we pay their wages at the end of the day. I will not give up and I am reporting this to trading standards to see how i stand and to see how to take things further.

I have been waiting 8 months to have steamed up windows replaced and all they say is they have a backlog of work. I think they are fobbing me off. I keep emailing calling. Service now say they can do no more for me as they are too busy and I will have to wait. 8 months is long enough, what do you think?

1 Month is long enough to wait let alone 8 Months, I am still waiting for a response to my problem that has been outstanding now for 5months and still not resolved after numerous phones calls, numerous emails just to may to count and I have now got in touch with Trading Standards to see how I stand and I have told them that as well but this has not made any difference at all so they have not shame.
Keep going do not give up as it is a matter of principle.

I've been waiting over 9! They sent me a letter in July apologising (!) for the delay (due to them moving premises and said replacement glass had been ordered and would be fitted shortly. Still waiting. Emails all unanswered. Advise putting all complaints in writing so trading standards can follow up

I want people to know that Smiths Windows are one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. I've never wrote a review before but as they are so useless I feel I have to. I've been in discussions with Smiths for over two months now about installing a new door. Same problem when wanted a blown window replaced. Unanswered emails, phone calls not returned, no one seemed to know why taking ages? Reported December 2014, eventually replaced June this year!!! Excuses saying "due to Christmas break, taking longer", "shortage of lead for the leaded design" and so on! When eventually replaced, had two scratches, and wrong colour. Had I have been home when they came, would have not accepted it. My daughter here at the time didn't notice the scratches and wrong colour. Give up with these in-competencies!! Small window, so get someone who knows what their doing to replace it.
