“Good Secure windows”

Written on: 26/01/2016 by Kenjohnson1966 (1 review written)

I would publicly like to thank smiths glass on the Windows they fitted for my wife & I before winter. We decided to buy new Windows after we were broken into through our old plastic Windows. We choose smiths because they had the best locking system on the market which was confirmed by my brother-in-law (who is a police officer). We could not be happier, keep up the good work Kind regards… Read Full Review

“Shocking Experience from Sales to Completion!”

Written on: 25/01/2016 by AshlynnMolloy (1 review written)

We had full installation of windows in Nov 2013 finally after waiting 2mths!! From the outset I felt something wasn't right as I was being pressurised into taking out their finance rather than pay it out right ourselves. Then on the day of fitting got told by the fitters that the Company was terrible and our Bi fold door was not made properly but they would get an engineer out to do the best he could with it as they wouldnt send it back! I demanded we get a new one made as £7500 was alot to… Read Full Review

“Awful Customer Service and poor Installation”

Written on: 20/01/2016 by Jovan100 (1 review written)

Our windows and doors were eventually fitted in January 2015. There had been plenty of problems before the installation including items missing off the contract and changes to the start date. It took several attempts to get the contract as originally agreed. The door we chose in the showroom was not actually current! There were several problems following the installation. This includes: Damage to our dining room table and mastic on the carpet. A finishing strip was missing from one of the… Read Full Review

Paid deposit 23rd Oct 2015. 4th Nov 2015 surveyor did measurements for all 6 windows to be fitted. 19th Nov 8am -9am arrived at property for installment, but was cancelled as windows not ready. 8th Dec 8am windows to be fitted, was cancelled as windows were completely wrong. We ordered white on inside but the fitter noticed they were brown, so once again cancelled appointment. 11th Dec windows were eventually fitted, well 5 were fitted perfectly but NOT the bathroom windows as the window was… Read Full Review

“They couldn't honour the price they quoted......”

Written on: 04/01/2016 by stewart10 (1 review written)

We had them round to give us a quote for fascias and a new front door and back door. We were originally quoted £7,000 (or thereabouts), she then rang her boss who gave us a standby offer for the work to start 11th January, and if we accepted that night it would cost £4,050. We accepted, and signed the contract and shook hands, and thought that would be it. However, on the 4th January we rang them to see when a surveyor would be round, and were told that we were underpriced and there would… Read Full Review

I am sorry to hear of your experience, unfortunately on this occasion our representative had made a mistake in her pricing and the work would not be commercially viable for us to carry out for you using the high quality products that we use on every installation. I can assure you that we will have used every resource available to us to make the work viable as we would rather our van outside your home than that of a competitor.
I apologize that you were not informed in better time however as I am sure you can appreciate the offices were closed over the Xmas holiday period and you were informed at the first opportunity that we were unable to carry out the work for you based on the price quoted.
I apologize again for any inconvenience caused to you.

If you make a mistake, and it's something that we've shook hands on and signed a contract for, then I would expect a professional company to honour it regardless if it was viable or not.

“Steer well clear.”

Written on: 15/12/2015 by Ratters75 (1 review written)

Awful, just awful. I urge everyone to steer well clear, I have only myself to blame, a couple of years ago I had smiths quote me for gutters fascias and soffits, well they tried to, in fact they sent out an office bod who knew nothing about estimating at all, his excuse was "they sent me to honour the appointment as the estimator has gone home" so a complete waste of time as he couldn't give me a quote. So I left them well alone, but they kept on calling (which I ignored), until a few weeks ago… Read Full Review

As you know the weather in the last few days has not been kind to us and has caused our fascia installation teams to over run slightly of which I am told you were informed, due to the nature of working at height if conditions do not allow it we are unable to as the health and safety of our installers is paramount to us.
I hope that you will be satisfied with the work that is completed and again i apologize that your experience does not meet the standard we strive to achieve.

You can now look forward to months of delays, ignored messages and rudeness if you do get through to someone. Please Read up on your consumer rights. Keep an accurate diary of all correspondence and attendance. Give them an ultimatum including a date they need to be finished by. This has to be a 'reasonable' amount of time. If you follow the correct procedures now, it will pay off if you need to go through the small claims court. You have extra rights if the contract was signed after1st October under the consumer rights act. If signed before then your rights are covered by the supply of goods and services act.

Someone else informed me that she was going to sort this out if I forward the email, which I have done. We got threatned with debt collection for final payment even though we have not signed off the work., I would like to post the photo of the poor workmanship, so that people would know how poor your work is as well as poor service, no one comes back until they want payment

I am put through to an answer machine every time I call and no one ever calls back. Finally I get a June installation date for the 3 day job. Smiths tried to have this review taken off. All content has been proven to be true. After making the best part of this year the most stressful time of my life, they have the nerve (and resources) to inflict more upset. How about spending less time on researching and trying to remove bad reviews and invest more energy into customer focused services and a bit of quality control on 'goods in'! You might start repairing your bad reputation.

Hi all yes we had the same experience and took a year from beginning to end for our work to be completed. Was chased for payment when the work was clearly not finished and electrics certificate not provided. They were due to be taken back to court by Trading Standards this week but it was postponed will post new date in case you would like to know what happens Document all contacts made ideally by letter or email as this will help should you need to take it further which is what we resorted to.

“Very Rude”

I know the company read this site as they tried to remove my original review when I had the misfortune of choosing them to build my conservatory two years ago. Therefore, rather than calling them to complain as I know I'll get no response, here's my review of their sales call to me this morning.

This morning I took a call from probably one of the most obnoxious people I have spoken to. He said he wanted to talk about my enquiry for a conservatory. I asked him what enquiry he was talking

I called at 10am after being advised my installation would be started first thing to check for an update. The first member of staff was pleasing and informative and put me through to a manager as she could not tell me an expected time. You’re lucky to have the Installation manager take your call at all, as he’s wilfully ignored most of mine.

From my review below, I've encountered the same issue with the same individual. If he feels if the problem or delay wasn't directly attributable to him you have no chance of empathy or an apology. Where do Smiths get these people from?

Difficult to know what to add to these comments!! It seems that all Smith's employees have had their "Customer Service Gene" removed!!! Before and during installation, I lost count of the number of unanswered calls I made. There were panes missing, doors the wrong way round, wrong glass in the wrong doors but, thankfully, the final installation work was excellent. But the story just gets worse if you need any form of follow up service. Door locks that fail have not been replaced after nearly three months, compromising my house security; phone call after phone call plus emails are ignored and no-one ever phones back; senior management are not available to speak to their customers and ignore letters. I have been in touch with their trade organisations, FENSA and Glass and Glazing Federation, but they do not seem interested. I shall persist along this route and encourage everybody to comment on as many Social Network sites as possible. (By the way - beware that door locks are NOT covered by their guarantee after 12 months!!!)

Update - the installation was completed by a very good fitter. However it was not complete with caps missing from the windows, and as there was a small scratch on the door I agreed to simply be provided with a touch up pen to rectify this myself (rather nice of me?) I was told these would be rectified in a week and have tried to call several times leaving messages but still no response.

I also noticed scratched in the inside paynes of the double glazing window which I have complained about several times but still no response

Trading standards or maybe just small claims court is my next point of call

When looking for a replacement window company, we came across the reviews for Smiths on this site, and one thing struck us as strange, they were Marmite! Love or hate….no middle ground, and we found this most bizarre. Having bitten the bullet and had the work done by them (nine windows and two sets of French doors), we now 100% understand why the reviews of the company are either at the polar opposites of very good or appalling. Excuses saying "due to Christmas break, taking longer", "shortage of lead for the leaded design" and so on! When eventually replaced, had two scratches, and wrong colour. Had I have been home when they came, would have not accepted it. My daughter here at the time didn't notice the scratches and wrong colour. Give up with these in-competencies!!
