“Nikwax Aqueous Wax for footwear is a product that I've...”

Nikwax Aqueous Wax for footwear is a product that I've used for many years now. It is a white water based liquid wax which is easily brush onto the surface of your walking shoes, boots etc., even if they are wet. It should be applied to clean footwear and there are some products that can be bought to clean them first. Though I just wash my boots under the tap and then apply this waterproofing liquid wax.
Here's a tip, when you've applied it and wiped any excess off and apply gentle heat to your boots using a hair drier. This will help with the waterproofing process, though remember that water and electricity don't mix! Also be aware that if you use it on Nubuck or Suede boots, they will be transformed into regular leather boots which for me has never been an issue.
However, Nikwax make a waterproofing product for Nubuck or Suede material.
This product is recommended for Gore-Tex boots which helps to prevent the upper boot material from absorbing water (wetting-out). This allows water to bead off the surface. I've also used this product on non-waterproof boots, turning them into waterproof boots. This product is to be reapplied when necessary to help maintain it's waterproof integrity and also because depending upon where you walk, this product could be worn off. Interestingly, last year I found an old, half full bottle of this wax (dated 1993) which had hardened somewhat. However, after shaking the bottle and placing it into a small amount of hot water (removing the top first), the liquid was as good as new after a period of time and with a further few shakes. Highly recommended to keep your feet dry.
