Written on: 10/05/2008

What is the point in an MP3 player that deletes itself every time you plug it into your computer?

I do not store MP3s on mine as I back them up on to disc but really- no other iPod model has to have the tracks in iTunes in order to keep them; an absolute waste of time. So every time I want to change my shuffle I have to import at least 6 cds that are already on it just so they don't get deleted. I cannot see the wisdom in this feature. (read more)

If you just want to put your best tunes in one place and not have to be messing about flicking this way and that, so all you've got is one really good tune after another, then you cannot go wrong with this "littlebigthing"!!!! It does everything I need it too, simple to use, plays music, that's I need it to do.

Only bugbear is that I can't use iTunes because I'm still using Windows ME. that's Apples lack of foresight, means I can't buy tunes form iTunes, their loss not mine, I now use Winamp to put music on my shuffle and take it off, no problem. (read more)

Basically, if you are a music lover this is maybe the ultimate mp3 player.
I love it because it doesn't have any poncy features like a colour screen etc and is therefore cheap and you can therefore chuck it around.
I love it because I plug it into the PC, take literally seconds to chuck a couple of my favorite albums onto it, then take it off my PC then I can go off for a cycle or drive or wherever and I can listen to music I love without going through menus and stuff.

I'd say the iPod shuffle is a great little iPod. I mean sure, there is no screen but it doesn't bother me and it's not THAT hard to skip to a song that you want. It's ever so easy to transfer songs etc. And, it is awfully small which is good for me. I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't picky about songs and is fairly sporty. Also, the price isn't that bad. Not bad for an iPod.

I've had the iPod Shuffle for a while now. I bought it at Wal-Mart, and I never had any problems with it. The battery doesn't last all that long and there's no screen, but you don't need a screen to listen to music. I got mine later than most. I paid $30 for mine on Ebay for a brand new 512Mb shuffle, because the new "mini" shuffle comes out 10/31/06.

In the past I've had Creative's MuVo and a couple of other varieties I can't remember. Most had reasonable, if not middling sound. This iPod really surprised me. The I-Pod shuffle is very simplistic and is ideal to those new to MP3 players because it is easy to use. The shuffle looks attractive and the sound quality is very good. I would recommend the 512MB version to the 1GB because with the latter it could be a nightmare to try and find a specific song in a 300 song libary. (read more)

I have a 1GB and as before, it holds a small amount, but the 240 songs are by 4 min, which most of my songs don't last that long. You can also go a little overboard and buy more than your shuffle can hold and so this way, you can change songs regularly.

I've had an iPod Shuffle for almost a year and it's perfect for me. I wear it jogging and walking around, and listen to it in the bathroom (plugged into speakers). It's perfect for jogging because of its tiny size and lack of weight.

The iPod Shuffle is incredibly light and possessed of a very good battery life. It just never seems to need recharging. When you eventually need to recharge it, you simply connect to a computer via its USB connector. I didn't want to be tied to a laptop, so I bought a Belkin plug and car charger set ($22 in Wal-Mart). This set also allows me to recharge my other video iPod, so it's worth investing in if you have two iPod's.

I have read so many reviews on the iPod Shuffle as I am planning to buy it next month. Many people are complaining about how there is no LSD. Well you knew that when you were buying it, so you shouldnt be complaining. If you have a problem because you dont like the song that YOU chose to put on the iPod Shuffle just change the song. If you put the song on the iPod, you should know what song it is just by listening to the lyrics. The no LSD is what makes the iPod Shuffle so special from its brothers.
And also, yes of course it is overpriced. It's Apple. Apple is a brand name. If you buy, for example, a Coke, it'll probably be $1.50 (CDN), but if you buy a no name drink it'll probably cost much less. Why? Because it is not Brand Name. Brand Name products usually have much better quality.

I mainly use the Apple iPod Shuffle for running and it's pretty much a perfect companion. Before the shuffle I used to drag around a cd/mp3 player with me and that wasn't much fun. It was big and bulky, it was constantly skipping tracks even though it claimed to be jogproof and the thing needed a constant supply of new batteries. Duncanbayne's Response to Dinther's Review

Written on: 04/07/2005

I haven't used the iPod, but I've had some remarkably negative experiences with the iTunes software under Windows 2000.
Drag & drop simply ceased working, so I can't now build playlists. I have tried everything, including installing the latest version of iTunes (4.9), but the problem is still happening - and no-one has responded to my query about the issue on the Apple discussion board.
In addition to just plain not working, the iTunes interface is horrible. For starters it doesn't obey the Windows theme settings, it uses it's own chrome theme. This is outright rude; perhaps the developers ought to actually read the Windows UI guidelines sometime.
If the iPod is made with the same loving care as the iTunes software, I'm surprised it didn't simply catch fire when you plugged it in.

The iPod Shuffle was the first mp3 player that i owned and you can critise it all you want, but in the end it does the job. You can listen to music with ease. And if some people have problems with putting songs on it then they must have made a mistake some-where. And in this review it states that all files must be dowloaded through iTunes, that is incorrect. There are other ways to put files on the shuffle. The shuffle does the job that it was made to do, what more do you want from it?

hi Guys, really sad to hear you had such trouble with itunes and the ipod. iTunes only works on XP very well, this is, surprisingly like OS X on macs! You can select any settings for the updating of ipods through itunes, ie let it loads songs itself or you specify. alternatively you can use the shuffle as a 1gb removeable drive which I have done, its easy, just comes up as another drive letter, does on windows too. drag files to it as well as most music files etc except wma files, and if music files are present along with your cv on word files, it will play the music, take the ipod to your friends miles away listen to your music and print off your cv, easy.

This Apple iPod Shuffle (512MB) has great storage space which can be used to store files as well as music. Itunes software is very good and the sound quality is also great.
This iPod is no good if you would like to choose what music you would like as it has no screen.
Overall this iPod is great value for money and an excellent fashion accesory to have. (read more)

I find myself loving this mini miracle more and more every day. The iPod shuffle, critisiced by some, adored by others. It hasn't got a huge memory for a library of files, but in reality who actually likes 4000 songs? I certainly don't! The shuffle is an ideal choice for joggers, people who hate bulky players, and those with certain favourite songs, and a rubbish choice for people who loose small things regularly. If you like to see and choose what you hear, go for the mini. Otherwise save... (read more)

well, the end cap has never fallen off for me. I don't particularly know how it could, if you look at how it fixes on. Unless you were careless enough to damage it yourself.

Written on: 20/03/2005 by douglastuck (1 review written)

The Apple iPod Shuffle (512MB) is more than just a cool looking white stick, it's a different kind of iPod altogether - in some ways better. It's smaller, lighter, cheaper, stronger and easier to use than iPod or iPod mini and more suited to daily life.

Ask yourself:

- Is it really that important to you to carry your ENTIRE music collection with you ALL of the time?

- Is it really important to you to have the possibility to choose from up to 10,000 songs to choose from on the daily... (read more)

It can only play previously downloaded music from a computer.
You can't download from an external audio source- like a radio!!
You can only recharge the battery from a computer so if you are on holiday in say Turkey you are stuffed.
Also the battery has a very limited life so do be warned. Li-ion batteries are not that clever- they have a very limited life.Much better with metal hydride which dont fit this gadget.
It has no built in radio so you cannot record from local radio transmissions.
I am looking for a replacement for a Walkman tape recorder and this gadget is a total non starter.
Might be usefull for storing photos - cant see any other purpose for it.
However if you are happy to listen to the latest teeny bopper group - then fine.

I've never owned an mp3 player before. Last thing I had was an over-priced mini-disk player from a few years back. I wanted a good value unit and had liked traditional iPods but was put off by the price. The iPod Shuffle comes along and I decided to give it a go. Only 69 quid for 512MB so seemed like a good deal. Initially I was concerned of the lack of screen but after having it for about 2 weeks now, I'm not bothered at all. The whole point is that it's a tiny jukebox and you never... (read more)

Can someone tell me how easy it is to select a specific track to play, in non-shuffle mode, if one has 100+ songs on there. Can one jump to the first track, the last one, how fast is skipping tracks?

When in 'non-shuffle' mode, you quickly press 'play' 3 times and it jumps to top of the play list. I'm not sure how you get to end of play list though. Hope this helps.

If you want to listen to the 3rd track for instance, can you skip the 1st and 2nd traks?

There are 2 modes on the Shuffle. Either 'shuffle' (random order) or 'play in order'. Select 'play in order' and just use track forward/skip buttons to go through tracks one by one. Some people moan that it doesn't have screen etc... But the player is marketed as a 'Shuffle' so its mainly aimed at those who aren't bothered about what tracks come up when. Kind of a mini-juke box in your pocket.

I'm not the type to wear headphones 24/7, but I love music and need a flash drive for work and school. I got my iPod shuffle for free...and the rest is history. It's everything I ever wanted wrapped into a tiny, lightweight package--no wires, no chargers, no hassle!
An LCD would be nice, but would wreck the price (of course, again, mine was free)...
Also, the sport case is a little pricey but well worth the extra purchase (splashproof iPod!). (read more)

In my view, the iPod shuffle is much better than the iPod and iPod Mini. This is mainly because of its size, sound quality and memory storage. I mean think about it, say your going out for a run, would you rather have a small, lightweight iPod shuffle round your neck or heave around a iPod on your belt, which looks silly anyway.

Memory, ok, the iPod has 40GB, but really, you don't need that much, especially when you can just plug your iPod Shuffle into your computer and put a whole... (read more)
