Perhaps I have been incredibly fortunate with my Small Business Manager (Nadim at Halifax branch) but he has provided me with a faultless service in every respect. I had a questionable credit history and was turned down by NatWest but Nadim battled to get me an account and was successful (after four weeks!). He has remained proactive and the customer service is wonderful. However, my experience has been limited to this - so I can't speak for the long term 'positives' of the account but so far I am very impressed.

I run (on my own) my small print and design business from home. I have two Barclays Business Bank Accounts; one a current, for day to day transactions with a decent overdraft facility (never used except on the odd occasion) and the other a business premium which is hardly ever empty. I bank online which is perfect. I run a very tight ship, if by chance the current did go overdrawn due to time gaps, there is an automatic overnight top up facility of £1000 to that account from the other. I spent some time and found that each quarter the current is debited 'Charges for Commission' for Period say 8 Sep / 7 Dec 2008 £68.42. I searched a spreadsheet that I set up from the start of my accounts and in the last three years a total of £807.04 was debited (I did not have time to go way back). How can I check if these 'Charges for Commission' are indeed fair and that as a very busy one-man band I am not 'getting done' as I do not have sufficient time to scan my accounts regularly and truly, have no idea of what competitive small business bank account charges should be?

If we move to another bank it will be because I would appreciate a call or visit from our Relationship Manager. They can be easily contacted, and jump into action if you contact them. Service is good and helpful. But I repeat I would like THEM to contact ME from once or twice a year (after all I am their client).
