We bought Actinic after speaking to the sales guys and they assured us that it could do all that we wanted but its turned into a complete disaster. Everything we wanted such as customers accounts, multi users and a review system has turned into so much extra work and expence I spend all my time trying to get the software to work rather than selling my clothes.

We are at our wits end with this actinic catalog software as it is continually crashing and we cannot get any help from the support people at actinic. It is so slow to use and update our site that I cannot cope anymore and need to move to another cart but there are so many out there I don't want to make the same mistake again by buying the wrong one

I have been using Actinic for quite a long time, while its a little quirky in terms of being desktop software its great.

The most important thing I use it for is its secure card payments. I looked at a lot of options, including EKM Powershop but nothing works as well as Actinic out of the box.

Why am I writing this review? Because its possibly the most under valued piece of software I have ever encountered.

Ive used Actinic for many years and sadly it has not moved with the times. There are now many other carts out there which offer much more features at a comparable cost or even for free.

Compared with others its inbuilt templates are very basic and poorly designed and it UI is not that user friendly. Im now moving to Interspire

Actinic Catalog cannot ecport files via email, no google checkout, sage link is so complicated its not worth me having, only 2 currencies are enabled, no side bars with special offers, no wish list, no featured product, seems outdated and left behind.
I feel Im stuck with a push bike in a race with cars.

Personally found it extremely difficult to set-up and configure not only the ssl but also the cgis, the ftp emails and their support system is too basic to provide effective help in my experience. I tried to implement it with fasthost as my hosting provider and I spent months to finally find out actinic is not compatible with it as well as not being compatible with paypal sandbox testing environment...

If you don't need to use SSL, i.e. the https, for payment process, Actinic is very good.If you need to use SSL, please, please check with your web host to see if it can support it. Actinic won't work on every host, and not every host can support Actinic's stupid linking method. This is how actinic works with the SSL:1) Actinic set up all the files in two directories: acatalog and cgi-bin, in the HTTP server -- a non-secure server. Actinic will mainly run on this server;2) Actinic will store the m ...

Actinic is easy to use for basic site creation but can allow you to get under the hood and do almost anything you want to do. It can be hosted on many different servers so you are not locked into a hosted system which its very hard to move away from.
Ive been using it for the last 5 years to build sites and consider it one of the best on the market for small business.

The Actinic Catalog software maybe good for someone who is not upgrading, I don't know. But from an upgrade point of view it's a BIG disappointment and a waste of money.

If I had not payed so much money for this software, I would have ditched it a long time ago, I tried v8 thinking that it may improve things, now I am no stranger to the actinic system but v8 was a nightmare for me, so the order of the day is do a lot of research and try and get it right first time.

In short, Actinic Catalog - Business is the first ecommerce application to allow the user easy access to all of its functionality, and allows the user complete freedom to design what they want quickly and accurately is the winner!! The other technical bits can be added later.

Actinic Catalog - Business is a great product but I don't like the forwarding of the shopper between ordering and checkout. Other shopping basket software doesn't do this so why does the market leader do it?
