Had a very bad experience from start to finish paid top money for a poor quality dress alterations were very poor ended up taking the lining out from another dress plus it took four visits and still not happy, never anyone with any authority in the shop. The service was appalling, I was not contacted when they moved shops so got a scare thinking they had gone bust, they lost my tiara, my veil had glue on, they tried getting me to take my dress 3 months before ny wedding telling me that they did not have the room for storage, when I went to pick my dress up not all alterations had beenn made. Have just been wedding dress shopping and the retail assistant acted as if I was not rich enough to buy oriental pearl and when I had my phone out shouted at me for trying to take a picture when replying to a text. Outraged and left feeling extremeley angry and disgusted to be spoken to in such an impoliet way. NEVER EVER going in that awful shop again due to their staff. I have to say that shopping at Oriental Pearl last year was one worst experiences leading up to my sister's wedding. The staff were openly rude and made us feel like we were being singled out for poor service because we are Asian. I regularly rent hotel rooms and cars for business and never paid a deposit in the UK - you give your card details, and you're charged more if you damage the room/car and pay upon checkout/dropoff of rental vehicle. Oh - and you'll be told about the extra charges. It's just the way people conduct business in the UK. Rent a room I agree with you - but you're told about deposit and cost of hire upfront and you sign the contractual tenancy agreement so it's black and white.
I don't think paying a deposit was ever the problem here, it's the poor comms and poor service experienced. In this case, rental payment was made upfront, and upon collection of the dress they were asked to pay a deposit that was previously not communicated. Reading between the lines, they may have forfeited their hire charge. It's a bit backwards service if you ask me.

I tried on the first dress I saw and it was actually perfect apart from I wanted a corset style back which a very helpful assistance said they could alter at no extra charge. This customer might be biased towards oriental pearl company. Firstly, customers are clearly informed that the dress ordered is in standard size which is the nearest to their actual size. Besides, have a think of how costly the customer made service would be in UK. So no customers would even believe that's possible.
