“Dries too fast”

written by braunton1 on 11/01/2022

Have used Dulux for years, but for the first time have bought some brilliant white Satinwood to paint seven doors.Contrary to everybody elses comments it dried within twenty minutes. It was virtually dry coming off the brush. The problem being that it was impossible to keep a wet edge hence I have got streaks even though I have now put on two coats.I am now going to have to revert in putting a coat of gloss on which was not the object.Certainly won't be buying a waterbased paint again especially Dulux

“Absolutely rubbish ”

Bought the satinwood trade, prepped all the woodwork and undercoated, then two coats of paint. Left for two weeks to ensure it was dry. Placed a lightweight ornament on windowsill, paint came off. Bought the same in diamond,TERRIBLE to apply n get a good finish. Wasted £95 and had to redo all paintwork. NOT HAPPY!!!

“Still wet after 27 hours! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Angie1990 on 23/08/2018

My partner tried the water based satinwood first and thought the prep must not have been good enough as it peeled, so we tried the oil based BIG MISTAKE!!! After 27 hours all of the doors and woodwork are still wet! BOTH products are absolutely awful! My partner took the second lot (oil based) back and was given a replacement and overheard one of the trade counter assistants saying the was a problem with the production of this product. If it is not dry by tomorrow morning, the whole lot will be going back, a refund demanded plus extra cash sought for the extra manpower (we ended up getting a decorator in) ruined clothes (now upto two tops and a coat) plus doggy daycare (3 dogs AND wet paint??) absolutely fuming they are continuing to sell this sub standard product. We have always used dulux NEVER AGAIN.

“Quick dry......won't dry.....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kevin.pudd on 30/06/2018

Had this paint for about a year, and until reading the review's here thought I was doing something wrong. My wife today used the paint and expected it to be dry by now, but after 10 hours it is still tacky. Earlier this year I painted the window sills in the kitchen and every time something is placed on the surface it sticks to it.. If Dulux have had a problem with this paint, why is it still for sale and why hasn't it been recalled... Methinks a communication to BBC watchdog...

“Will not dry!”

Paint looks good when applied. Goes on easily but remains tacky and peels off. Awful paint going out to look for replacement paint tomorrow! Looking at forums this is a common problem. .

“absolutely shocking paint!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by maxxonmann on 04/03/2018

If only I'd read the other reviews! Foolishly I assumed that being a Dulux product it would be half decent! When you've painted 54 spindles and, 12 doors and miles of 8" skirting to get a poor finish you ought to be entitled to some compensation! Let's face it - this is on a par with emulsion [and a cheap one at that] in terms of finish and durability. Should have stuck with good old oil based, and now find myself using Leyland trade eggshell and doing the job twice. Ironically, I sell some AK marine paints with my job and find a lot of customers less than enamoured with those products too. A truly shocking product that should be withdrawn - It's not fit for purpose, and if I could give it minus stars I would.

“Very poor quality”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Neulie on 08/02/2018

I have tried to use Dulux Trade Satinwood on a door. I first applied Dulux undercoat, waited for it to dry, sanded it with 180 grit, then vacuumed and wiped with a rag moistened with alcohol. It's difficult to assess the covering power because the undercoat was white. The paint was difficult to apply because it lacked any flow ability after the pass of the brush, it seems to be too thick and tears the underlying coat. However the main problems were that the paint never really dried and the finish was blotchy matt with patches of the satinwood I had hoped for. I brought the paint home and tried a sample plywood panel with two coats of white Dulux undercoat, light sanding between coats, then one coat of the Satinwood. It is supposed to dry within 6 hours. 2 days later it was still tacky, and 6 days later it is still soft and easily damaged. Drying of both undercoat and top coat was carried out in a warm dry atmosphere, indoors. Dulux have done themselves a real disservice here, because due to inadequate testing, or simply not caring, I will not be buying ANY Dulux paint ever again.

“Waste of time & money”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Cahillmb379 on 29/01/2018

I am at my wits end wondering why my Dulux Trade Oil Based Satinwood won't dry. Its now been on over 24hrs & its still wet to touch. I have used this product many times before & had really good results. I did try the water based version once & found it to be terrible so decided to go back to the oil based one. It is a expensive paint costing over £45 for 2.5l. But its the time its taken me to apply & what I'm going to do with it if it won't dry. It was extremely runny when applying & is really shiny not like satinwood should look. I am going to complain. Will never buy this product or any Dulux Trade paint again as the prices have rocketed & the quality of the product has plummeted.

“Avoid!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Scorpio73z on 28/01/2018

Used this on my banisters (with a primer / undercoat) all properly prepped beforehand. 3 months later it still feels sticky, the banisters look filthy as when I try to clean them the paint just rubs off or looks grimy. The paint has completely peeled off in places. I'm furious, as I'd already sanded and glossed it beforehand and wasn't happy as the gloss went yellow within days. So I went to all the trouble of sanding back the gloss, and using primer for the satinwood, only for it to look a complete mess (and even worse than before!! Wish I'd kept the yellow gloss now) Awful product, avoid at all costs!

“Absolute Rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Edwardsnq331 on 02/01/2018

If I could give zero stars I would. I used this product because it was said to stay white but mined didn’t stay on the woodwork long enough to lose its colour. It peels off even after proper sanding and undercoating. Avoid this stuff it is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!

“Dont Bother”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Davidelner on 29/12/2017

This product let me down badly, poor finish, in places it remained tacky for weeks and when dry can be damaged by the slightest nock. I had to removed it from a 2m window sill because of the poor finish, the process took 10 minutes, it literally peels off! Having now searched the net for user reviews I find that my experience is shared by many.

Total rubbish does not stay white more than 6 months poor quality compared to what it used to be they have took all the guts out the paint now for the VOCs Ive been told by a dulux retired lab technition av been in the painting trade for nearly 50 years none the oils stay white and the water based does a bit longer but rubbish does not take any knocks or wear might as well be honest this is all paints not just dulux, - & farrow and Ball well that just washes off.

“Deluxe satinwood a nightmare paint”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ada315 on 02/09/2017

I painted 13 doors and frames with dulux satinwood which has been a complete disaster as several weeks after applying the plant is still tacky to the touch everywhere and already starting to look messy in spite of my extremely time consuming preparation I originally used this make of paint several years ago and had no problems at all but I now have to strip it all down and repaint which will be a costly and time consuming job which I could do without. Unless I have got a dud batch this rubbish is unfit for purpose and should be taken off the market.

“I wish I had read these reviews prior to using this...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 92Crowley on 30/08/2017

I used this to paint all internal doors, frames and skirting boards on a newly renovated house. I'm a perfectionist and like the new white finish without the shine that gloss gives. One year on, and all wood feels tacky and are magnets for dust which once it settles, is impossible to wipe off as it somehow sinks into the paint. Door frames are filthy from where 12-months of touching have left fingerprints and marks. Notches from the wood are coming through and look like horrible dirty smudges, Not happy, just googled the product to find these reviews, wish I had used gloss now.

“Worse paint ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by zabut on 16/07/2017

I unfortunately, did not read on here first. I painted my hall, stairs and landing with quick dry satinwood. I have used this type before but never again. The bannister particularly is terrible, it is peeling off with a consistency of PVA glue or nail varnish after you put remover on it. How can Dulux still be able to sell this product. on my door frame I can use my nail and scrap off the paint. So disappointed and upset with all the time and effort put in to now have to repeat this again. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what pain I should use this time.

“Not 'quick dry'...more like 'never dry'!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Aspect710 on 01/04/2017

We had used Dulux 'satinwood' for years but went for the quick dry last year when we decorated the whole house prior to my daughter's wedding(photographs had to look good!)...removed 13 doors and all sanded down by orbital sander and by hand + door frames, skirting boards and window sills. That was June/July 2016...some doors are still 'tacky'...ornaments stuck to window sills...a lot of effort for little results. The doors covered well and I was surprised how easy the paint went on(doors have a grained effect and I used a mini roller)...wish I'd used the old oil based paint...my advice would be 'don't do it'...it comes off in strips if you try to rub it down to recoat!!!

“Worse Paint Ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by CristinaCarroll on 02/03/2017

I feel really upset today - I have spent ages over the last couple of weeks sanding new wooden doors down, filling in holes, applying 2 coats of primer - Dulux, sanding between each coat and then applying 2 coats of Dulux quick dry satinwood, only to find the finish is absolutely terrible. This is the WORSE paint I have EVER used - now I'm going to have to sand the whole lot off and start again - Dulux needs to get their act together, I have wasted so much time and effort.

Hi..I too have bad experiences with this paint. We had used Dulux 'satinwood' many times before as we preferred the finish but last year we bought several tins of 'quick dry' as I had 13 doors to do + windowsills, door frames and skirting boards before my daughter's wedding. I removed every door, rubbed each one down to ensure a good 'key' which took me weeks to do. That was June/July 2016...some doors are still 'tacky'!!!!...window sills are shocking with ornaments stuck and lifting the paint...I will most certainly NOT be using this again...I cannot bring myself to decorating the full house again less than a year later...as you say...a waste of time and effort!!

Went on nice, easy to wait with, dried quick and finish was fine until a couple of weeks later, all the woodwork started looking dirty, I tryed to wipe it down but the paint started peeling off like pva glue, now I've to to try and get it all off before repainting with gloss

I applied a 2nd coat of satinwood on plain wardrobe doors yesterday and the finish is awful. Some parts are shiny and the other parts are drab. I painted these really carefully but it looks as though the paint has not covered evenly. I am thinking of painting over them in a matt varnish so that there is no unevenness. Would this be okay and how long should I wait before applying? Thank you.

You can but it took five coats to cover our doors and the paint being covered wasn't dark. Also until it dried completely it was very vulnerable to light knocks. We weren't impressed and don't buy it any more,
