“Don't attempt to use "free trial" system”

Written on: 16/07/2017 by Colemankd367 (1 review written)

As a member, I had a very embarrassing situation where a colleague was refused entry on the "free trial" programme. The staff were officious and unhelpful. Do not expect this from my expensive membership… Read Full Review

“Dont Join!”

Written on: 07/07/2017 by 193White (1 review written)

Nuffield Health Surbiton. The changing room floors in both the male and female sections are always dirty. Both kids picked up verruca's!! Yuck. The toilets don't get cleaned regularly it seems as the cubicules in the mens were disgusting and bowls blocked and hadn't been cleaned in the time that I took the kids for a swim, then went to the gym and have a shower! Not good enough for an expensive monthly membership fee. The gym is old fashioned and classes get booked up so no spaces. All in all… Read Full Review

“Class booking system errors/problems”

Written on: 23/05/2017 by Jesse472 (1 review written)

It's possible to book 2 classes for same time period. It's possible to book the same class twice. Off peak members can book peak time only classes using the system. Classes are frequently full on the dot of 7am, just as the places become available on the system. How is this possible? Have yet to attend a class when everyone booked in/on the list actually attends. Emails received 3 and 7 minutes before a class starts (as examples) informing of a place in a class. Has this system even been… Read Full Review

“Going downhill - Aylesbury ”

Written on: 17/05/2017 by Vaughnsw372 (1 review written)

Dear All, I would not recommend this gym for the following reasons: 1. Price - this is the most expensive gym in Aylesbury at £55 per month. There are several cheaper and better gyms in Aylesbury now. I will not be renewing my membership in November. I will be going to Pegasus gym instead. You do not get what you pay for. The gym is not exclusive or high class, it is just expensive. 2. Availability - the biggest problem with this gym is that it is hell bent on recruiting new members… Read Full Review

“Too many members for the classes on offer”

Written on: 05/05/2017 by Parisx349 (1 review written)

I have been a member at Nuffield for a number of years and up until the new booking system would have recommended them. In fact, it's not the booking system which is the real problem, it is that there are too many members and not enough classes. Now that there is a booking system it seems to encourage members to book as many classes as they can, and attend them or cancel at the last minute. The Management of the (Harrogate Gym) acknowledge that there is a problem in January and February… Read Full Review

“Situation worse since new booking system”

Written on: 29/01/2017 by ddChase163 (1 review written)

People are block booking classes and then failing to turn up. Surely it has to be on a first come first served basis as this new system will just wind regulars up and if they are unable to access classes there is no point in them being members so will vote with their feet!… Read Full Review

“Nuffield Health Stockley park”

Written on: 29/01/2017 by Crabtree1971 (1 review written)

Stockley Park Virgin active gym , was never the best maintained of places. The Spa was rarely cleaned properly & although most of the staff were friendly , I got the feeling Virgin didnt treat either their customers or staff with much respect. However due to recent changes , Nuffield Health has taken over the running of the Gym.Its a new sign , new colour on the walls , but little if anything has changed . And on top of this nobody really seems to care much at the upper level of management… Read Full Review

“Worst gym ever!! Not recommended!!”

Written on: 09/01/2017 by LaneMarsh (1 review written)

I would like to let everyone know about the poor service I received in Nuffield Health in Brondesbury, NW2 5JY. I have cancelled my membership under 10 days, that was six months ago. In their policy they state that if you cancel under 10 days, no more future payments will be taken. Unfortunately they charged me for another month - £59. I have called them at least 3 times a week for the last six months, but usually the manager is never available. They promise to call back, which they did only… Read Full Review

“Nuffield Health Islington”

Written on: 09/12/2016

My local Virgin Active gym at Essex Road has been sold to Nuffield Health on the 1st of August 2016. From that point things only got worse. Nuffield Health decreased the amount of classes and the duration of each class, somehow the quality of the classes dropped too. There is no supervision at the pool anymore, so if you are in trouble you are supposed to press the trouble button, which is hardly reachable if the person is having a problem at the pool itself. We used to have a very nice… Read Full Review

“The towel restriction and what's wrong with Nuffield...”

Written on: 11/10/2016 by Concidius (1 review written)

Was in the Farnborough Virgin active which has been taken over by Nuffield; the change makes little difference to me; I go there; lift weights, run 5k on a treadmill, stretch and then swim a 10 lengths; don't do classes, don't need a personal trainer. So with a joint membership it's overpriced considering what I get from it; but close to home and I don't enjoy running outside in winter. It took weeks to get the new Nuffield team to sign up for the towels service; but as they tried to figure it out I… Read Full Review

Dear Member,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry that you have not been satisfied with your membership and have felt the need to cancel. Unfortunately the Farnborough club opted not to offer a complimentary towel as part of the membership package and charge £1 per towel or as you have mentioned a surcharge to the membership price for use of 1 towel per visit every month.

Upon taking over the Virgin Active clubs we collated member feedback to prioritise where improvements needed to be made in each gym. These will be implemented in the coming weeks and will hopefully bring the club back up to the standards our members expect from our gyms.

Again, thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback and I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards,
Sam

“Appalling customer care”

Written on: 12/09/2016 by Porterfield366 (1 review written)

I cancelled my gym membership with Nuffield Health six months ago and recently checked my bank statements - I was amazed to see the money has still been drawn from my account. When I contacted Nuffield to address this, they denied ever having received notice from me and it was my fault for not writing to them by recorded delivery. No chance of any recompense. Even having told Nuffield all this they still want a further month's membership money from me. They are quick enough to contact you… Read Full Review

“Harrogate Nuffield”

Written on: 21/05/2016 by Victoria209 (1 review written)

Poor decision - So called new 'Company policy?' To only give out one towel to swimmers with long hair even though membership is not cheap. Surely they can manage a second towel to avoid long wet hair! This is ridiculous. If ones using the gym only, one would be sufficient. Members are supposed to enjoy their visit, relax and de-stress. Not be annoyed by unnecessary changes! Please have a rethink for your customers sake… Read Full Review

Dear Member,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the complimentary towel provision at the club.

We are not changing any terms or conditions at the club by enforcing the existing 1 towel per visit rule. Our website clearly states on our clubs home page that a complimentary towel is provided. Whilst we have offered a complimentary towel to you from the beginning of your membership, it is not a part of our terms and conditions as it is a service that we only provide in some of our clubs.

If you require more than 1 towel per visit then we do have an option for you to add an additional towel at a cost of £1 per visit. Nuffield Health launders more than 11 million towels per year at a cost of 3 million pounds and we have identified that on average members use 1.7 towels per visit. We are committed from both an environmental and charitable status perspective to monitor and improve this.

We do however appreciate your feedback and would like to apologise for any inconvienience this has caused you when this change was implemented on-site.

With regards,

Ben

Same issue at Farnborough; took weeks to get the towel contract set up; was always given two towels whenever I went there; this week suddenly with no notice or consultation it's one. With the wet dirty floors I always use the towel from the pool to avoid standing in it. But this and other stuff in my own review made me give my notice immediately, a joint membership; so their tight ass approach has lost them two full paying members.

“safeguarding”

Aylesbury Despite many complaints about the use of mobile phones and tablets by the poolside and believe it or not in the changing room where there are naked children and adults,no cubicles, the staff just do not enforce their policy of not being allowed to use them. I would be very guarded about taking children to this pool as it would be very easy to photograph them without anyone knowing… Read Full Review

“Nuffield St Albans - there are better cheaper gyms”

Written on: 13/04/2016 by 153Kirkland (1 review written)

Nuffield St Albans is a big unfriendly gym. There is very little help available if you need some direction (unless of course you want to pay for it) and it is dominated by very young people (young women on reception and a lot of young men actually in the gym.) For that reason if you are slightly older or are a family you would be best off going to Westminster Lodge in St Albans or Cotlandswick (a brand new council run gym that while much smaller, is bright, clean, welcoming and has everything… Read Full Review

Dear Patron,

Thank you for your feedback, I am very sorry to read that you are not satisfied with your recent gym experiences.

Unfortunately during this time we were undergoing an extensive refurbishment of our equipment and whilst this has improved our offering going forward we are/were aware of some impact to our members during this time.

During this time of transition we tried to keep our members as happy as possible but we are sorry to hear that you still had a poor experience during this time.

Our extensive refurbishment has enabled us to become the premier offering in the area and I do hope that we get the opportunity to have your hospitality at our re-refurbished centre at some point in the future.

With regards,

Ben
