People are block booking classes and then failing to turn up. Surely it has to be on a first come first served basis as this new system will just wind regulars up and if they are unable to access classes there is no point in them being members so will vote with their feet!… Read Full Review

“Nuffield Health Stockley park”

Stockley Park Virgin active gym , was never the best maintained of places.The Spa was rarely cleaned properly & although most of the staff were friendly , I got the feeling Virgin didnt treat either their customers or staff with much respect.However due to recent changes , Nuffield Health has taken over the running of the Gym.Its a new sign , new colour on the walls , but little if anything has changed . I would like to let everyone know about the poor service I received in Nuffield Health in Brondesbury, NW2 5JY. I have cancelled my membership under 10 days, that was six months ago. In their policy they state that if you cancel under 10 days, no more future payments will be taken. Unfortunately they charged me for another month - £59. “Nuffield Health Islington”

My local Virgin Active gym at Essex Road has been sold to Nuffield Health on the 1st of August 2016. From that point things only got worse. Nuffield Health decreased the amount of classes and the duration of each class, somehow the quality of the classes dropped too. There is no supervision at the pool anymore, so if you are in trouble you are supposed to press the trouble button, which is hardly reachable if the person is having a problem at the pool itself. Was in the Farnborough Virgin active which has been taken over by Nuffield; the change makes little difference to me; I go there; lift weights, run 5k on a treadmill, stretch and then swim a 10 lengths; don't do classes, don't need a personal trainer. Dear Member,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry that you have not been satisfied with your membership and have felt the need to cancel. Unfortunately the Farnborough club opted not to offer a complimentary towel as part of the membership package and charge £1 per towel or as you have mentioned a surcharge to the membership price for use of 1 towel per visit every month.

Upon taking over the Virgin Active clubs we collated member feedback to prioritise where improvements needed to be made in each gym. These will be implemented in the coming weeks and will hopefully bring the club back up to the standards our members expect from our gyms.

Again, thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback and I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I cancelled my gym membership with Nuffield Health six months ago and recently checked my bank statements - I was amazed to see the money has still been drawn from my account. When I contacted Nuffield to address this, they denied ever having received notice from me and it was my fault for not writing to them by recorded delivery. No chance of any recompense. Poor decision - So called new 'Company policy?' To only give out one towel to swimmers with long hair even though membership is not cheap. Surely they can manage a second towel to avoid long wet hair! This is ridiculous. If ones using the gym only, one would be sufficient. Members are supposed to enjoy their visit, relax and de-stress. Dear Member,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the complimentary towel provision at the club.

We are not changing any terms or conditions at the club by enforcing the existing 1 towel per visit rule. Our website clearly states on our clubs home page that a complimentary towel is provided. Whilst we have offered a complimentary towel to you from the beginning of your membership, it is not a part of our terms and conditions as it is a service that we only provide in some of our clubs.

If you require more than 1 towel per visit then we do have an option for you to add an additional towel at a cost of £1 per visit. Nuffield Health launders more than 11 million towels per year at a cost of 3 million pounds and we have identified that on average members use 1.7 towels per visit. We are committed from both an environmental and charitable status perspective to monitor and improve this.

We do however appreciate your feedback and would like to apologise for any inconvienience this has caused you when this change was implemented on-site.

Same issue at Farnborough; took weeks to get the towel contract set up; was always given two towels whenever I went there; this week suddenly with no notice or consultation it's one. With the wet dirty floors I always use the towel from the pool to avoid standing in it. But this and other stuff in my own review made me give my notice immediately, a joint membership; so their tight ass approach has lost them two full paying members.

Aylesbury Despite many complaints about the use of mobile phones and tablets by the poolside and believe it or not in the changing room where there are naked children and adults,no cubicles, the staff just do not enforce their policy of not being allowed to use them. “Nuffield St Albans - there are better cheaper gyms”

Nuffield St Albans is a big unfriendly gym. There is very little help available if you need some direction (unless of course you want to pay for it) and it is dominated by very young people (young women on reception and a lot of young men actually in the gym.) Unfortunately during this time we were undergoing an extensive refurbishment of our equipment and whilst this has improved our offering going forward we are/were aware of some impact to our members during this time.

I went to Nuffield Wimbledon asking about memberships and contracts because I am moving soon and would like to change gym. His answer was so so RUDE. Thank you for your feedback, which has been shared with the management on your behalf.

We are disappointed that you were not happy with some aspects of the centre and would like to address some points that have been raised.
- With regards to customer service we regularly open up to feedback from our members via surveys. Currently we are attaining our highest ratings for customer service and are very pleased with the general customer consensus. Nevertheless this feedback has been shared with the appropriate line manager.
- Facilities - whilst we note that we had some issues with service repairs at this time. Measures have been taken with our supplier to speed this up and ensure a better customer experience.

I would also take this opportunity to advise of the new equipment coming into the site, this includes new weights, mats for the gym and a refresh of our spinning class studio.
In addition to this we will also be inputting air conditioning into some new areas, within the site.

Once again thank you for taking the time to feed back to us and we hope to welcome you again to the club in the future.

I am very sorry to hear of these experiences. We understand how frustrating it can be to get into your preferred class and subsequently this feedback has been shared with the central Fitness manager. We are trialling a number of initiatives across our sites in order to improve class availability. Similarly we are also constantly reviewing the class timetable to reflect popularity of some of our sessions.

When next on site please feel free to speak to the duty manager or front of house team, with your recommendations and they can then determine if there is anything they can do to accommodate your requests.
