Good Points: Rigid chassis and sport suspension with a relatively high power engine.

Bad Points: Small trunk. After installing a hand built hat shelf with 6 kg of speakers there is only about 20 cm room for luggage. The back drive shafts and suspension cuts the bottom of trunk by 20 cm compared to regular 2WD golf Mk2.

General comments: Apart from the small luggage space, the Volkswagen Mk2 Golf is absolutely fabulous and runs smoothly. The power is coming out as a slope with no fast peaks, but the torque is the measure that this car is driven on and by. 229 NM and a full time 4WD give the car a special characteristics that cannot be paralleled.

i have got a mk2 golf 1.6L and i am 17, it is my 3rd car and i havent even passed my test yet. i have also got a renault 11 1.4L which i am going to get rid of cause it is a heap of sh*t, at the moment i have 2 amplifiers, 2 10" subs, 2 6x9s, 2 4.5" speakers and 2 rubbish factory speakers, and a cd/radio headset in my renault, it all sounds pretty good but i am sure i can do better. my mission is to manage to fit 12 speakers in my golf, i will put the speakers from my r11 in, all except the fact ...

At first a LHD car scared me. I must admit it took me 1-2 months to fully adjust, but now it feels natural. The engine on the Volkswagen Mk2 Golf Rallye has an incredible sound and handles high and low speeds very comfortably. On the motorway, keep your foot down and the power continues to increase up to 130/140mph with no trouble, humbling much more hyped up cars (It will eat Imprezas for breakfast, but have yet to challenge the local Lancer). The 4Wd is an absolute dream; the saying 'it's like ...

I bought my 102,000 KM VW Mk2 Golf rallye from a friend in Germany, who i met on the internet. I had all the belts replaced and a general service, it runs like a dream! I have KW coilovers on mine so it handles like nothing else.

    Love it to bits!

But the G60 lump may have to move over for a 20V 1.8 Turbo out of an Audi TT soon.

In 1989, VW hand-built 5000 special Golf Rallyes to qualify them for homolagation and entrance into rallying. As competition rules changed in 1989/90, most were sold as road-going cars in Germany/Mainland Europe.
I have recently bought a low mileage (60,000 miler) one owner car in almost new condition!
This car is amazing and handles like its on rails due to the rigid chassis, 4 wheel drive and sport suspension. The supercharged g60 power unit develops a smooth 160bhp and is very torquey. The c ...
