Value For Money
My Boyfriend And I Were Searching The Internet For
My boyfriend and I were searching the internet for Rooms to Let in Nei Poroi, Pieria, Greece. We were interested in the so-called "Bessy's house". It was 40 euro/night. We called and spoke with a woman who wanted an advance payment of 100 euros in a bank account. We paid it and booked the room for a week, entering in 12.30. We had arrived earlier so we went to the travel agency of the owner, called EVI TOURS, to communicate and get info about the room before we get there. She told us the room wasn't ready, but we were expecting that, so we came back later.
When we returned to the travel agency, she said our room was ready and she wanted to pay her the WHOLE amount of money, which is illegal as far as I'm concerned, too bad I didn't know then. We hadn't even seen the room till, and she was expecting us to pay all the money forward! Professional failure. We went to check if the room existed, but we were too tired to search thouroughly. We really should have done that. So, we thought for moment that the room was fine and we had to return back to the travel agency to pay and get the key. We were not given a receipt, only a key and an air conditioner remote. She explained how to use it, so "we won't be calling later to ask her how it works". Professional failure. I interpreted that as "now that I got your money don't bother me any further". I thought it's okay, there will be some staff in the apartments anyway if we needed help with anything.
Wrong. There was no reception, no staff, NOTHING. We were abandoned there in a way. The travel agency was closing for afternoon, what would happen if an accident occurred during that time? Anyway. We climbed the stairs, and got into the room. It seemed cute with view at the beach , although it had a crooked floor. When we started using the room, the horror begun accompanied with Multiple professional failures.
1)The toilet was dirty! There was water on the floor and in the shower (not mopped if you know what I mean) , water on the shelf above the mirror and a piece of toilet paper thrown in the toilet (total irony: there was a sign stating that we shouldnt throw any paper in the toilet). I guess their cleaning is limited in throwing some water without mopping and wiping the toilet seat with toilet paper instead of using chlorine. Even the cheapest rooms for rent cleans the toilet at least before new inhabitants sign in! How gross. And there was no equipment to clean up.
2)I opened the wardrobe and I saw an artistically tangled blanket from the previous inhabitants. I started wondering if my bunch of prepaid euros wasn't enough for the beloved Evi Tours.
3)I wanted to boil some tea and I reached for the water boiler. When I opened it, a stink came to my nose. There was water left in there for decades without being cleaned.
4)There was no toilet paper except that one inside the toilet. So we called for some, and the maid brought us a half-used one. EW.
We decided to forget about these incidents and spend our vacation week in a peaceful way. Not until the day of our departure a maid knocked our door in 10 o clock and wanted us out to clean up. We told her we were supposed to leave before 12 any time we wanted. She said "Okay but I'm in a rush". "Who cares" I wish I had said. Anyway. We left the room at 11:00.
I returned the key to the travel agency and brought my complains with me. I never heard "I'm sorry" or at least some silly polite excuse. Mrs Evi wouldn't hear anything and tried to proove I'm nuts. She said we came too early and the maid rushed to clean (she forgot that we came at the time we had arranged and that she told us our room is ready). She also said that she had told us to leave at 11:00 (while we signed in in 12:30 and she told us to return the key by 12:00 the latest).
I should have made a major accussation. I didn't know. But now, if I meet with this kind of "professional" again, I will take matching measures.
