“Good service”

Hired a car from Best Deal Faro 12th to 20th Aug 2016. Was slightly worried about the older negative reviews, but unfounded. The car was not new, 48000km, but everything worked. The agent that issued the car, and another that received the car, were polite and helpful. On returning it the agent was not keen to check the car over for damage "it's an old car, and we know it well". i half expected some credit card problems later, but none. i will be happy to hire from them next year.

“Best Deals Car Hire Faro Airport, Algarve”

★★★★☆

written by PortugalAndy on 13/01/2015

I have just returned from a trip to the Algarve where we used this company again for our car hire and I have to say that we were not disappointed. We have used them before and shall be using them next month as I have found that they are one of the most best car hire company's in the Algarve. Most of local companies work out of car park Four which does put some people off however if you get over the fact that they do not have an office you will still receive a good service. The chap who dealt with me was polite, his English was perfect and he explained everything in a very clear manner. They also have a very fair fuel policy unlike some of the car hire companies. Their policy is 'drop off as you found it' that can make a real difference if you are not going to use a full tank of fuel. They also have the toll tag in their cars that make paying for the A22 very easy. I would recommend Best Deals out of all the car hire companies we have used over the last 6 years as you know where you stand with them.

“not best deal”

Hired a car through atlas with best deal being the car hire company at faro airport. Paid for insurance and insured the excess with them too. When I arrived to pick up the car they wanted to secure 900 euro from the credit card which wasnt on the card. I was told I had to pay an extra 70 euro to take thier insurance or I couldnt have the car. I kicked up a fuss but had to pay it. Guy gave me 3 forms and said sign here here and here. I said what am I signing? He said its about the damage on the car. I told him I havent even seen the car yet so im not signing anything. He then said sure you have insurance what does it matter. He said car is in row 3 that I could look at it and come back up to him. Scoured row 3 for the car and couldnt see it. Eventually he came down and we drove off in the car. I was fuming. That evening I got a call from the manager and I told him what had happened. He said he this shouldnt have happened and he would speak to the employee. He said that it was normal to take 900 deposit and I said it wasnt available on my card. He said he would refund the 70 euro but I would then be liable for the 900 euro. I said I would have to think about it and qould call him the next day. I called next day and spoke to a woman who asked if I wanted it refunded to my card or if I wanted to have the cash at the airport. I said cash at the airport would be fine. When I returned home in the evening I got a text message saying that as my card had declined the money they couldnt do a refund and I could contact their solicitor. I got further texts claiming I wad blackmailing them by saying I was going to write a review on TripAdvisor and that they would see me in court over it. We had an early morning flight home and had arranged to drop the car off at 8am. We arrived at airport at 745 and while all the other car hire firms were taking back cars there was no one available from best deal. Ok I thought I did say 8am so I will hang around. 815 some guy arrives up in a car saying he got held up. I told him I didnt have time for him to check the car. I was furious and yes I let it show and told him that it was a disgrace.

“Value for money - would use again”

★★★★☆

written by Rayang261 on 21/03/2014

Have used Best Deal on several occasions and have always been satisfied. They offer value for money but the vehicles could be better with a little 'TLC'. eg - wind screen wipers poor / warning lights sometimes are on all the time, but told "that's OK" / inside boot covers inoperable / etc. Nothing major wrong, but just a little lacking. However, the cars are always clean and comfortable and at the spec requested - sometimes better than expected. Best Deal always ensure there is fuel at a sensible level, giving you plenty of time to top up or get to initial destination. The staff are always competent, helpful and efficient. I generally hire via Atlas Choice and the paperwork and collation for collection and return in Portugal is always spot on. Thank you to all parties involved.

“Car ok. Best Deal however are Dodgy!!!”

written by BrotherG on 05/03/2014

Hired car no problems at the end of august 2013. When receiving the car I paid E10.00 for a transponder and a further E10.00 to cover my toll charges, estimated at around E7.00. It seems the transponder must have been dud as on 13th December 2013 my credit card was charged with £12.67 for unpaid toll charges. As i had initially paid for the transponder/tolls by cash, of course by the time I realized there was something amiss I had cleared out all my old holiday paperwork and so have no record of the first payment. Now feeling well and truly ripped off! GUTTED!!!

“Atlaschoice and Best Deal”

written by on 13/04/2013

Having filled in all the forms the BestDeal worker did not show me a report of all the prior damages that the car had, which surprised me in what follows. I offered him to proceed to the vehicle and record all the damages. The car did have numerous damages which, if not properly documented, could have cost me a lot of money as I have later understood. Although it is not my duty to make the whole examination of the car, I was scrutinizing that vehicle pointing out to all the scratches and dents presuming that the worker does an accurate record of the damages in the form. One thing that surprised me was that it was just a single copy for me only, whereas the worker did not retain a second copy for himself as if it were an unimportant document. After the vehicle had been returned, another worker of BestDeal has requested that document from me and began checking it against the current vehicle condition. Suddenly, she found that the front right wheel cover was scratched which was not recorded on the form and therefore I had to pay 25 Euros for it. I objected saying that I could not have done it, because the vehicle was parked almost all the time in the hotel premises and I drove it to the near by shop only few times (the meter showed about 100 km in 5 days including the Faro-Albufeira distance in both directions). She had not even tried to check the information about the preexisting (from a previous client damage report) damages to this car and pointed to the form and my signature on it. She just said that she knew that vehicle very well and that the wheel covers were new. Why would a person who knows the vehicle very well require from me the report of the preexisting damages that I have signed upon my arrival prior to checking the vehicle upon its return? She was then meticulously comparing the state of the car with what was noted in the form. Given the vehicle condition it was not a surprise that some damages could be left unnoticed even if they were not deliberately unrecorded by the worker. As I mentioned earlier, no previous record of the condition of that vehicle had been produced to me by that worker as well as by the worker I returned the vehicle to. The latter has told me that they always have such situations with clients who do not buy insurance (40 Euros) because they are taking all the risks. It is clear to me that BestDeals earns the money by fooling clients in such a way. If I have missed a more serious problem with the car, that worker would be showing her finger in the direction of some unrecorded scratch or dent and simultaneously to my signature. At the end my credit card was charged in the amount of 25 Euros. That worker was also very curious if I had signed the insurance. The other worker who I got the car from also said to me that it is better for us to buy the insurance, but indicated that for the firm it is better that we do not do that (they pre-authorize the credit card in the amount of the Excess if one does not). Now it explains the deal with Beast Deal. Either pay us 40 Euros or we are going to pre-authorize your credit card and then charge it anyway (most likely for the same unnoticed preexisting damage to several clients) because one is most likely going to have problems identifying all preexisting damages in that vehicle. The strangest part of it is that I had the only copy of the damage report form and could anytime fix it by recording absolutely any damage to it, that I could have made, as the preexisting one. The rental agency I have made my booking with was Atlaschoice. It seems it is as disreputable as the firms like Best Deal it is conducting its business with. Atlaschoice could not care less about my detailed complaint regarding that issue.

“Booked our car through Atlas choice and were given...”

Booked our car through Atlas choice and were given Best deal at Faro airport. Car was fine but rep was 2o minutes late at airpot. We asked about inspection on car return and was told no one would be available and to leave keys in a van. On our return home we discovered 30 euros taken from our credit card with no expalaination. I contacted Atlas choice and they said they would look into the complaint and get back to me in 28 days. After this time I contacted them again and later was told the fuel level was 1/8 not 3/8. This was a lie as we had made sure the fuel level was correct. we hire cars on a very regular basis and know how impotant it is to have fuel levels correct. I am now persuing this with my credit company. This firm should be boycoted by rental agents as there are lots of complaints about them .

The car we used wasnt great, we dropped it off in the early hours of the morning, so there was no-one to inspect the car. 3 weeks after we got home I got a credit card bill with £423 from Best Deal. I knew nothing about this so I rang Atlas Choice (who I booked the car through) they knew nothing about the charge and cared even less. They told me to contact Best Deal as it was nothing to do with them. I did this and eventually got through, they said the charge was for damages (there were no damages when I dropped the car off), they said they would send me a photo of the damaged are, I am still waiting, 5 weeks later !! How can they get away with taking money out of your account without your knowledge or permission and without even telling you. I was disgusted and would definately not use this company or Atlas choice again. Apparently this happens quite a lot and is a scam, fortunately as I paid on my credit card they didn't get the money. I would insist on an inspection next time when I drop it off and I would take photos of the car, definately pay on your credit card. DONT use BEST DEAL or Atlas Choice!

we hired 2 cars for two families for a holiday in portugal, cars were collected and we went on our way, when we dropped them off there was no rep to check them in so they advised us to leave the keys in boot of car and leave them...this we did only to find my friend had 400 euro`s taken from his credit card...they told him it was for damage..both cars were fine...this is common practise by dodgy car hire companies so beware and make sure you have all your paperwork in order before you get on the plane!

written by mkdodd1 on 16/07/2010

We hired a car with "Best Deal" although we booked through "Faro Car"for our holiday in the algarve, when we dropped the car off at the airport on our return we had it checked over by the best deal rep who although gave the car a thorough inspection never gave us any paperwork to confirm its condition...that was our mistake!

2 days later we had £257 taken from our credit card apparently for damage to the lock!...trading standards are familiar with this company but like our credit card company they are powerless to help against this scam.... please, please learn by my mistake...make sure you have your check in paperwork signed before you leave and keep it safe!

i was told by a solictor if in doubt report your credit card lost before they get a chance to do this to you!!!
