These sharks entice you into a £19 pcm broadband deal then after 2 weeks they slow your download speed to 1.3mbps to entice you into paying more.....they hide behind a no contact policy too; probably the worst broadband supplier on the planet.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Completely incompetent and don’t have any communication between departments. They persuaded us out of money and sent debt collecting letters regardless of whether we paid them. We were persuaded out of over £500 and were told every time we called that the notes from the previous call hadn’t been saved. When setting up a direct debit to pay off the outstanding balance (regardless of whether we should or shouldn’t have paid it) that wasn’t on the account either so debt collecting letters were sent. No matter how many times we called it was never saved or communicated. They are in a nutshell an absolute joke. DO NOT USE THEM!!!

Do not go with First Utility. Their customer service is beyond awful. They bully and harrass you into installing a Smart Meter with constant marketing. I got fed up of all their pestering so booked appointments three times with their installation partner Siemens. Three times now Siemens haven't turned up. They don't let you know either. You have to wait 30 minutes on the phone to installation partner Siemens to speak to anyone, and then their staff don't know what they are doing and are extremely unprofessional. If you enjoy spending your life on call waiting systems listening to dire music this First Utility is the company for you. Otherwise go with someone with more value for their customers.

Having held a surplus of over £200 on my a/c for a year-yes my fault-trying to get a refund is impossible. First told to allow 10 working days-not sure why in this day & age for a BACS payment Chased on the 11th day- guess what- because it wasn't processed correctly and with special fast treatment I only have to wait another 7 working days. I know they have to pay for their corporate hospitality sponsorship somehow-but taking interest free credit from their customers is a bit rich. How about cheaper tariffs-instead of saving them for the smart meter mugs??

I didn't chose this company i inherited it when I moved into a new flat. I was soon bombarded with lots of impersonal and confusing letters. I tried to phone the company but after going through an IVR for 5 minutes I was bluntly told to phone back during opening hours - although the automated message didn't say what they were. The online services were useless so I made the wise decision to change energy supplier. I was still bombarded with nonesense from First Utility so I called them. Spoke to an obnoxious unhelpful person who spoke like a robot. Problems still ongoing. Words of advice - don't choose this company and change if you're with them.

its been 6 months, all I want is a switch from pre pay to direct debit, I am a new tenant with excellent credit so should be a simple process resolved in a couple of days. During these 6 months I have had credit taken from me to cover the previous tenants debt leaving me unable to feed and wash my children. when told they cant make me pay another persons debt I was laughed at and told good luck getting a direct debit plan in that house. After explaining what they are trying is illegal and very bad for business should I take it further I got my credit back yet no apology. I have been told I can now switch and all it will take is a press of a button. I can only assume they have spent the last 6 months looking for this button as I am no better off. calls not answered emails ignored

I left first utility in 2013. I am still get harassed at least once a year regarding a final bill which was paid in 2013. I have repeatedly called over the years and been promised the amount has been removed, and my account finally rectified and properly closed. Until the next year when the same happens again. They actually owe me £4, rather than the $80 odd they are saying I owe. Threating me with legal action, bad credit ratings, etc. Do not sign with first utility, absolutely the worst supplier I've ever used.

We emigrated from the UK in November 2016 and are still waiting for First Utility to provide us with a final bill. Apparently they are disputing our readings and the advice received from their staff is that we should fly back to the UK to resolve. I have tried to email the Chief Executive (look up on their site you will find out who he is) but then again he just ignores you as well so when you have a so called senior manager who ignores his customers what do you expect from the rest. Worse than British gas and I didn't think that was possible

They are a sham they estimate your bills and when you put your own in and it is a lot less they bully you with debt collectors even if your reading means they owe you money. Please do not use this so called Energy company, customer service rubbish they just iie to get you off the phone. The DD set up I did to include the small amount left owing said I had to pay in full after paying them £240.00 estimated again. Bad service and they bully you with debt collects for £20.00.

Initially took 18 months to transfer my gas. spent hours on the phone, they were trying to transfer someone else gas supply! Thought things were ok and renewed again as I didn't want the hassle of changing again. They reduced my £70 fixed payment to £40 after some months then in Jan 2017 announced they were increasing it to £255 to cover an outstanding debt of over £4000 from the original contract??? When I looked at the current invoice there were huge charges incurred for electricity after a meter change. After many more calls this was "fixed" and I was left with a credit of £850 which did not make much sense. When I tried to input my current readings online I could only input gas there was no option for electricity. More calls. Eventually this was "fixed" but I was unable to access my account. It was not until I received the next bill that I realised that I was now owe them £763. More calls. They said they would look into it and call back later that day. Several days later I called again, my query had been treated as an erroneous request for a change of supplier but as this was found to be incorrect they had closed the query. Which part of my 45 min call did they not understand?? The lady I spoke to informed me that the credit I had received was only for the electricity account they hadn't included the gas. So why offer to refund it?? Worst of all the new invoice crediting all the entries & rebilling no longer shows the huge amount originally billed, the data had been changed. The dates of each line also differ from the pervious "corrected invoice" which makes it impossible to check. In all my 70 years and dealing with numerous energy suppliers I have never met such an incompetent bunch, nor felt the need to write such a review.

Contacted them three times for a £250 overpayment refund always promises it's now been 6 weeks still no refund and spent a small fortune on phone call costs never return the call when they promise can't wait for my tariff to end and leave them there after sales service is awful

This happened to me but i left the frying pan to go to the fire in Dual Energy. Lucky, i didn`t put my gas there with that lot or instead of paying £60 per month they would want £150 plus. Also, First Utility is owned by Useless or sorry, i mean Opus Energy.

First Utility site states that any credit left after leaving them would be returned within ten days. Called them after three weeks to hear that it could take up to eight weeks. Still waiting. Energy ombudsman are as useful as a chocolate teapot. I wander if they are in league with energy suppliers. Small claims court (money claim online)here I come.

Having typed 500 words earlier and this site conveniently wiping it out for no reason I could fathom I'm going to keep it brief. I moved into this property and it had pay as you go meters, First Utility came and replaced them with smart meters but I had £120 in the meters when they did. I was told it would be paid back to me but the engineer didn't make a note of the amount. they asked me to email the receipts to them, I did this 2 weeks ago and followed up with 2 emails asking for someone to contact me as i'm sick of spending hours trying to get thru on the phone but no on has yet contacted me?

Its a pity I had to even award 1 star. First Utility are appalling. They are demanding money for gas and electricity at an address they don't supply and have never supplied and even when confronted with blindingly evidence that they have made a mistake they don't appear to grasp that there is a mistake. They are now even attempting to pursue the matter through a dept collection agency. The error is so obvious that there is no chance that they will get a judgement to get money they claim is owed but it is annoying to keep getting demands from them. Avoid this company.

My Story I switch to First utility. I provide meter readings every month. I pay my bills every month. I query my meter serial number. I switch to Eon 7th October 2015. FU send me a final bill 7th November 2015 which is actually a credit of £23.63 which they refund. Nearly 10 months after leaving FU send me a bill for £527.68 on the 30th August 2016 . I dispute this bill as I have had a final bill. You try and phone me every day and hassle me for payment while I am off sick with stress and depression. You then revise the bill to £155.57 FU don't provide a satisfactory explanation and breakdown of this. Keep asking for final decision letter so I can go to the ombudsman On the 19th December a bill is attached that is supposed to make things clearer it's 13 pages looks like they have credited everything from day 1 and then re calculated. I will be taking this matter to the ombudsman and seeking compensation for the distress this company has caused.

I was with first utility for an initial 12 month period. They were fine, I used power and gas and I paid for it. Then toward the end of the contract they sent me a deal to stay with them. What they failed to tell me was that they were going to exit me a few days prior to my current deal ending, thus triggering the exit charges £30x2. I queried this charge and they pointed out that I had left early in order to stay with them. Really? I thought I was staying and we would continue exchanging power and gas for money. After the query they removed me from the tarriff that I had opted for and CHARGED ME AGAIN! Another query and then I was sent on the round about of having to speak to the right person. I have no desire to be part of that. This is the most trouble I have ever had with any company ever. Do not use them. I have now left and gone back to one of the big suppliers. DO NOT USE UNITED UTILITY - AS A FORMER CUSTOMER I CANNOT RECOMMEND
