“Poor Service, no customer care”

Written on: 24/04/2013

I have dealt with CEX a few times in the past and there have been countless problems, such as wrong items being sent, faulty goods and poor condition goods. I thought the first few were honest mistakes then I got to know how the company works. Looking at all of the issues and complaints far and wide it appears that this company has no standards or morals. Will not be ordering from them again that is for sure! Something should be done really or they shouldn't be allowed to trade. (read more)

“Do not except vouchers from this company. They are...”

Written on: 22/04/2013 by Jowinks

Do not except vouchers from this company. They are presented on a scrappy receipt and although they are easy to use in store if you want to use them for online purchases you must mail them to an address at your own cost. I did this 1 month ago and despite constantly emailing the company and submitting a formal complaint to them and trading standards I still have not received my money. I honestly believe they have no intention of ever paying up. Be warned and do not use this company! (read more)

“There should be an option for 0 Stars”

Written on: 15/04/2013

Out of 3 orders placed on-line recently with CEX I have had 3 problems. I bought 3 cameras both of which do not work (one will not turn on at all and the other one will not connect to the PC and as it uses on-board memory, not SD memory it renders the camera useless) the other problem was a game where they sent the wrong thing all together. I have contacted CEX twice so far about this (5th April and 11th April) and they have not even responded. Not sure what to do next to be honest, I... (read more)

“Still waiting”

Written on: 21/03/2013

I sold my headphones to CEX online and posted it to the Watford office. Thinking there would be a fairly quick turn around it is still 'queued for testing' over a month after they originally received them. After many emails to them I finally had a reply, it was what looks like an automated reply, giving no idea on what is actually happening, just sorry for the inconvenience caused. I am so frustrated with this and now in the process of trying to now get the headphones back. Do not use... (read more)

“Worst service ever!”

Written on: 31/01/2013

So, I had several DVDs that I wanted to sell, and because I wanted to do it quickly, I decided on CEX after searching the internet. I checked prices on the website, and found that the closest store was in Andover, which is 20 miles away from where we live. When I arrived at the store, the staff were very busy behind the counter, chatting to each other and looking at their phones. When someone finally decided to talk to me, I said that I had some DVDs I did not need anymore. He said they... (read more)

Daffodilly's Comment

Written on: 04/02/2013

This behaviour is condoned by the customers services who side with the behaviour of the shop staff.

Having recently discovered the contact details for the Head of Marketing and PR and been totally ignored by him as well - its appears the attitude comes from the top!!! Best just to use a customer friendly firm as the problem is clearly unlikely to be sorted?

“CEX - Beware these liers”

Written on: 19/01/2013 by daffodilly (1 review written)

Went to local shop of CEX after Martin Lewis rated them at top of best payers for mobile phones, based on their advertised prices. But what they say online bears no relation to the offer in the shop. I left it to be valued and they had already labelled it up when I went back. Seemed not too happy when I told them that the offer was not what the website had said and that I would go elsewhere. Frankly I would rather give it away than sell it to them. You should see the mark up in the shop!!... (read more)

Written on: 11/01/2013 by bdt1978 (1 review written)

I Purchased an Iphone 5 from their romford store on Christmas Eve. I was tempted by the price which looked really good, and the fact the handset was in such good condition - boxed, immaculate, the full works. I did notice that this handset was about 100 cheaper than the other Iphones - i now know why. I took the handset and all was well - until boxing day when suddenty it went dead. Initially i thought this was Vodafone - so i spent an hour on the phone to them - only to discover that it was... (read more)

“If I could give them no stars I would - CEX are awful ! ”

Written on: 07/12/2012 by Traceylou79 (1 review written)

So like many they were going to give me the best price for my iPhone 3GS. After queuing up and leaving it with them to test they said it was in poor condition which was not the case at all !! So I said NO not excepting that I'll chance it on eBay. I sold it on eBay for £50 more than they were going to give me, however I received an email from my buyer stating that the screen had blown, they cannot upload the new data and CEX have put a ban on it and uploaded only their software, it has been... “The public that are clouded by their own self arrogance”

Written on: 01/12/2012 by Spub69

Overall cex are not half as bad as most of these arrogant, "know it all" members of the public try to make out. Firstly, they do not take into account the short amount of time the staff have to test sed items... For example... If a staff member of one of the shops took say, half an hour, to test just one consol, testing a good 10 minute of game play, Internet, etc then that would put them out of action for that period of time... Say the next member of staff had 100 DVDs to scan, price and... (read more)

I agree with a lot of what you say, but then at the same time while customers can moan unnecessarily, some of the staff can be rude, and it completely varies from person to person. Some are nice and friendly, others are not. I like Cex. it has it's flaws, maybe more so than some places, but I still like it. Nevertheless, one experience I had with it that made me want to stop using a specific branch is this:

I purchased a DVD, and after leaving the shop, I realised they had given me the wrong disc. Okay mistakes happen. So I walked back in and was queuing for 15 mins again like I had first done to buy it so I could ask the the disc to be swapped. When I got to the desk, I politely said something like, Hi I just bought this and was given the wrong disc could I please get it changed for the right one? I was asked 'could I see the receipt?' Of course they need that so I handed it to him, he went and got the disc. He gave it to me, said 'here you go', and walked off. I then left with the right disc. But do you see the problem? Not once did he say sorry or apologise in anyway. having worked in various places where customer service is important, this was terrible, regardless as to the fact he wasn't the person who first served me the wrong disc. It's basic customer service to say sorry if a member of staff has made a mistake and the customer has had to go out of their way to fix it. I didn't raise it with him, I actually thanked him as I am polite while he walked away. What I should of said though is 'aren't you going to apologise for the mistake?'. But I shouldn't have to, and I don't like making a fuss. Point is it's the staff like that which people get annoyed by, but it's not all the Cex staff by no means.

Bigspud2's Response to Spub69's Review

Written on: 16/01/2013

Spub69, I assume you don't work in the consumer law? Poor product descriptions, wrong things in the box/ case prices different than advertised, sent the wrong items, not dealing with reasonable complaints is against UK consumer law. Lack of time to test etc, is no defence. If you require further details on consumers rights I suggest you look up money expert.com or citizens advice. Many of us have worked in shops and dealt with rude and difficult costumers, it a hazard of the job. But as a consumer I have also dealt with some very rude staff. Not in my local CEX as it happens, who have always been great. So things work both ways. I've often found its company policy/ procedure and the staff/ manager interpretation of them that are the root of customer frustration not customer arrogance as you suggest. So please come off your lofty perch and remove your condescending chip as you will find that many of these complain are based on genuine grievances. Also your inference regarding homeless people can best be described as misguide and possibly objectionable. My is suggest that you do some shelter volunteer work or even spend some time on the street so you may better understand their stories. Of course not that wouldn't be in your natur, would it now.

Am I the only person who finds some of the comments in your 'review' offensive?
If you had any morals you would be sorting out the problems instead of blaming the public, many of whom have no choice but to use the unscrupulous 'services' of CEX.
There are too many different bad experiences for all the reviewers to be wrong. I have experienced the attitude of staff and the lack of consistency between what the firm advertises and what it does and I am a very reasonable person. I suggest you start listening to the comments and do something about them, instead of defending the indefensible.

“Poor turnaround time, poorer customer service”

Written on: 08/11/2012

I sent a PlayStation 2 to CeX to be rated and sold. It took them over four weeks to process the order (which they rejected, apart from the memory card.) I found I'd made the mistake of not copying down every bit of the order, since I asked for the money by cheque and they sent me a store voucher to be used within the week. When I complained and asked if it could be changed, they claimed that I had asked for the money 'by voucher, not paypal', proving they don't even read complaint emails... (read more)

I can only speak of my online cex experience, since I have only used their shop once. But online, heres the pros and cons: Pros buying: You can buy very good films- even boxsets for as little as 50p..often you can buy great films for as little as 10p (5p is the start price for some of their items!) You can also buy playstation 2 games and other older games systems at a very reasonable price.. 5p/10p for a footy game? thanks very much! You pay only one postage price for your order...I.e You... I have been in here quite a few times, although most the time I am purchasing blu rays. However on one occasion I did try and sell my old phone in there. When I say old, it was only a year old. It did have a few scratches on it, but nothing major, and in full working order. So I went in, after queueing up for ages, the guy who was serving me spent a long time accessing it. After that he decided that they wouldn't buy it. No reason given. Despite this I would still go in there, simply to... (read more)

I traded in my Wii console. They said they had to test it first before they could make an offer. After testing (and stating it was in good working order) they offered a paltry amount. I told them I wanted it back and then went to Game Station to sell it. Then I found that Computer Exchange had stole one of the controls!!! i went back to the shop and of course they denied it! Since the demise of Game stores locally, i have no other choice but to go to CEX in my town now and i was pleasantly surprised. Once you get passt the smelly odour in the shop of sweat and also the loud rock music, the prices are much much better than at gamestation or game plus they takle your phones in as trade in credit too which is even better. They were offering the best price for the mobile and all other companies that I have dealt with, working in this field, have been reputable. Cex said that they would pay £26 for the old mobile phone but would only honour the price for 3 days and subject to their quality checks and grading of the condition(a clause pretty much to the effect that thay can pay whatever price they wish).
