Before going I called to see what the waiting times for the carvery was and was greates by a unfriendly voice in the end of the phone who informed me that there was no wait and present. Living only a stones throw away we then decided that we try the new carvery at the bread and cheese. Really looking forward to our Sunday roast we arrived and was told to grab a drink and would be seated shortly. Was served by a young lady who didn't know how to crack a smile or pour a pint and felt like we... (read more)

My first visit to the Bread and cheese carvery, it won't be the last. The service was good, the food was superb ! A choice of three, turkey , beef , pork, all cooked to perfection. The veg was also spot on. All this and a nice pint for under a ten pounds, you can't go wrong. (read more)

Slow service and lack of choice on the carvery. Child friendly but can be noisy. Not recommended if you want the carvery because of lack of choice on meats. On both occasions recently there has only been either Beef, Pork or Ham. No 'white' meat alternative available. On Wednesday 16th feb we arrived around 12.30 and were told that Turkey was available. By the time we got to the carvery (we had starters) the Turkey was all gone! It transpired that they only cooked half a Turkey breast... (read more)

Everytime I have been to the Bread and Cheese over the last couple of months I can say we have never been disappointed. The staff are very friendly, helpful and the service is very good. The carvery has always had plenty of choice and even the other items on the menu are of a very high standard and plentiful. The tables are not on top of each other and therefore you have plenty of space around you. You are never rushed to finish your meal. Highly recommend. (read more)

It was my first visit to The Bread & Cheese in Benfleet. After checking the menu on-line I was looking forward to eating there .... how disappointed I was when on arrival (a quiet afternoon) we were shown to a dirty table then informed only carvery available! They seemed very short staffed and the few staff they had need lessons in customer service! Overall a very unpleasant experience. (read more)

Living within walking distance, i have been looking forward to the re-opening of this pub. Knowing a vast ammount of time , money and hard work was put into the re-vamp, i expected something spectacular. Yes, initial impressions are great. Retaining some of the "pub" atmosphere, whilst segregating the dining area. First meal was on the first opening night. Great as bumped into old friends. These were also dissapointed by the service, but teething problems ?. Bar maids have been helpfull,... (read more)
