“Don't Trust Opus Energy”

Written on: 21/07/2015 by Smithrh303 (1 review written)

BEWARE they are untrustworthy ! All Electric suppliers require a month notice of termination ! Opus demand at least TWO months notice ! ! Just 30 days from the their letter of new rates DO NOT GO WITH THEM ! I Did and regret it ! Never Again, I am forced to accept rates: from Opus 12.753 kWh and 26p /day after a fight reduced to 22p/day and 11.52 /kWh instead of 20.8p/day and 8.18p/kWh … Read Full Review

“WARNING - DO NOT USE THIS SUPPLIER ”

Written on: 30/06/2015 by cbParsons91 (1 review written)

I am a landlord of a commercial property. The tenant went into insolvency owing outstanding money for gas and electricity. Opus were their supplier. I contacted Opus and gave them all the details including the name of the liquidator. The building was empty for 18 months so I paid the standing charges to keep the electricity and gas on for the burglar alarm and the boiler in the winter. I received a telephone call one Friday afternoon telling me I owed £5000 and wanted to know how I was… Read Full Review

“Do not think of entering a contract with Opus Energy”

Written on: 24/06/2015 by 223Mueller (1 review written)

This company is a disgrace. It does not do what it says, and tries to cheat you. It latest ploy is a"deemed contract" WE gave them proper notice that we had sold our lease, and when the day came they refused to transfer the account to the new supplier. They eventually agreed the change and charged a very high penalty rate for the extra time. They used the "Deemed Contract"Act, which is not meant to be used like this. We have contacted Ofgen and they are looking at it now. I will report back… Read Full Review

“Sharks”

Written on: 17/06/2015 by Alexander278 (1 review written)

Offered a cheap price to get us hooked, then put the rates up nearly 30% after a year. Assured us that they sent us a letter informing us of the increase and that we are now stuck on a contract for 12 months. Now we have been trying to leave but they have rejected the transfer request because they say the transfer day was a day out. This is incorrect the ECHO system that all suppliers use states that the request date entered by our new suppliers was correct. Conveniently they have now put us on… Read Full Review

“Absolutely disgraceful”

Written on: 13/06/2015 by Oswaldos1955 (1 review written)

Moved into my new business premises and after a month of not using it as I was decorating (during the day, no need to use electricity) I got sent a bill for £280. I rang them and they said it's because the previous person cancelled the contract so I was using Emergency Rates. They told me to send them another reading so I did. The next bill was for £530!!!!!!! For a month!!! So I rang again and got told I should send them the reading again so I did. Next thing I know is that they have taken… Read Full Review

“Stressful”

Written on: 14/05/2015 by 33Kane (1 review written)

Being in contract with this company is actually the worst experience I've ever had with ANY company, utility or otherwise. They have no regard for people and would squeeze you without any remorse, they under estimate and over estimate from month to month and randomly select amounts to take from your account. They also have a Collections agency connected to them, that after you cancel the direct debit, (they threaten or should I say bully) action is taken even when its only two days after the… Read Full Review

“An absolute disgrace!!! ”

Written on: 28/04/2015 by BrittanyAlvarado105 (1 review written)

I have no idea how this company are still allowed to bully, threaten and blackmail customers into agreeing contracts with them. Illegal practices and it seems they have nobody to answer too. The staff working for them haven't got a clue. There appears to be many departments who do not communicate with each other, the workers who don't communicate and who are all on commission. The sooner this disgrace of a company is shut down the better. Make sure you take your own readings of the meter as… Read Full Review

“An OPUS representative came to our shop and wanted us...”

Written on: 26/04/2015

An OPUS representative came to our shop and wanted us to join OPUS and said that they their electricity prices are cheap compared to others and so on. We agreed to join them. The guy who came to the shop said that he would need bank details and signature (He had to papers with him. First paper was the contract which needed to be signed and the second paper was with the direct debit instructions which also needed a signature.) We signed the first paper with the contract however, we told that… Read Full Review

Hi. I had trouble with opus when I opened up my business last year. Basically a rep phoned me promising cheaper deals etc and that I had a 15 day cancellation period. Of course, when I tried to cancel I was then told this wasn't true and that I was tied in for 3 years. I spoke with my solicitor who advised me to get a copy of the recording with myself and the rep. I did and found that the conversation was only half recorded and missed out the bit where she spoke of the cancellation period.
Fortunately this worked to my advantage - as they couldn't prove I wasnt offered the cancellation period. When I contacted opus for the final time, I asked to speak with a manager (apparently none were at work - a claim which later proved to be false) however I spoke with the opus rep and put it to them that I had been mid-sold there product and that I planned to contact ofgem & take additional legal action against them. At this point the rep said she would need to discuss this with her superior (so a manager was available!!) when she returned she said that they would release my account and terminate my contract, which they duly did.
Don't get me wrong - this wasn't easy & I had to match their adamant/aggressive stance with an equally aggressive one of my own but I managed to get out after 4 months & am much happier with the new company (one of the big 6).
Co-incidentally opus charged me £250 more per quarter then my new company.

Hope this helps & good luck!

Hi, we had trouble with them when we 1st started out tricked into a verbal contract that was only partly recorded. My advice is to contact Ed Davey MP in charge of the energy sector also all the news papers etc and make Opus be aware of this as I found out the papers have already done reports on them before so it needs bringing back to there attention. Good luck with it all you can beat them we fought them and won and got out of it so it's possible.

“Rip off”

Written on: 06/03/2015 by Lilyanav365 (1 review written)

Just got my renewal quote they're charging me 28p standing charge and 18p per KWh as opposed to EDF who have quoted me 23p standing charge and 10.4p per KWh. Just asked what my charges will be out of contract. Kept being told they don't know and in the end they gave me a rate of 85p per day standing charge and 22.75p per KWh. What a complete rip off. I've paid them more than £600 in extra charges. Struggle to believe how they can be so unethical and the attitude of the staff is… Read Full Review

“CONSTANTLY BILL ME INCORRECTLY”

Written on: 06/03/2015 by Darrenu1984 (1 review written)

I have been paying £700 per month on average where after 6 months they billed me for £3000 and were unable to justify why this was. After 9 months of trying to resolve the situation, it finally got sorted out and I was in the right, obviously. they have now lured me into a new contract illegally without my consent and threaten to charge me extortion rates if i were not to pursue with their contract that has been given to me without my knowledge. They do not deal with any queries up until… Read Full Review

I know exactly how you feel, over a weekend ....yes that's right 1 weekend and I phoned them to make sure they had a reading then gave another one on Monday morning and it had gone up nearly £200 ....nobody works in the business over the weekend! Business size is the size of a four bedroomed house, they even looked on street view to see if I was telling the truth!

“How can so many people in one company get it wrong,...”

Written on: 05/03/2015 by markbaron (1 review written)

September last year my company Aesthetic Services spoke to an agent at Opus Energy. And was quoted 14.1 p perkw hr or 15.1p perkw hr for electricity if not having direct debit. I explained I was not paying direct debit and only willing to accept 14.1 p perkw hr on non direct debit terms. He went away came back and agreed my terms. A week later I got a contract through the post saying 14.1p per kw hr which was as agreed. Two weeks later a bill arrives at 15.1 p perkw hr. I complained to customer… Read Full Review

This company is atrocious my electric went from £60 odd a month to over £300 a month for no reason apart from they keep estimating my bill. Which I don't understand as I keep sending them metre readings as they never seem to relieve them. But they are more than happy to harass you for a payment 3 times a day. Never use this company they are terrible and just raise your bill after 3 months. Has ruined my business as it's only a year old and seem to pay opus with most my takings every month do… Read Full Review

Sorry to hear this , I do feel for you, I know what they are like constantly harassing you, I've told them if they want to enter my premises they must be accompanied by police officers, and have a full writ warrant if not they don't enter or touch my supply, if they do they are breaking the law, ( I'm not a lawyer but it must be somewhere that they are not allowed to do this ) have you contacted CAB? Maybe they can help? I hope you are ok and business is running ok now.

“ABSOLUTE HELL - RUINED OUR LIVES. SERIOUSLY. HAD TO...”

Written on: 05/02/2015 by 66O'Grady (1 review written)

Just saying the word opus energy makes me feel physically sick. They have caused so much stress and anxiety over the past year we have had to put our shop up for sale because we just can't handle it anymore. I am not one to fall for cold callers but the person who rented the shop before us said when opus energy rang they said they were British Gas. That was a complete lie. Next thing she knew she received a ridiculous bill from opus energy. The shop has been supplied by British Gas for over… Read Full Review

I'm on a one night vigil to respond to customers of ..OPUS ENERGY ( or should be HOPELESS ENERGY ) reviews, as this company really really needs to be stopped, I'm sorry to hear about what this company has done to your lives, they do it to everyone, their good reviews are probably written by the directors who are sat in their nice big houses near their pools, if a review is written so many times it gets bumped up on google and other search engines to warn people against using this company for any utility services, unfortunatley they do lie and say they are other companies or persuade you into taking a contract - be it legal or illegal they are not bothered , if this was my business I'd be closed down straight away.....why haven't they had this done? Hope you feel better as its over a month ago you wrote a review, and hope your lives are back to normality!
