“INCOMPETENT!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 03/03/2023

As an ex BBC employee and now pensioner, I am unfortunately compelled to deal with Equiniti. The company started my pension ok, but in less than a year they unilaterally ceased all payments. When contacted they paid all backlogs, but failed to reinstate my monthly payments. I have written on multiple occasions but after seven months the problem remains. I have attempted to escalate the matter with senior management, but so far have been thwarted. I will refer this matter to the Pensions Ombudsman if the matter is not resolved satisfactorily

“Words fail me”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Oscarw1946 on 08/01/2023

This company is an absolute joke. 83% 1star reviews on trustpilot 83 of 91 reviews on here are 1 stars. I’d give them 0 if I could. I have no choice as Tesco uses this company to sell my shares. 2months down the line still no money. I needed it for Xmas as I’ve been off work since August. 15 phone calls as many emails. They all promise to phone you back. No one ever does. A different excuse every time. They’re deliberately taking it past the deadline for the sale so they can buy back the shares and charge me more extortionate charges like the £77 to send out a form. I’ve contacted Watchdog and will get on to the ombudsman There can’t be a company in the country with worse ratings surely.

“Delays in transfering SIP”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/01/2022

I moved from one job to another It took them 4 months to get the paperwork sorted to transfer my SIP and pay the tax required A month after they cached the cheque it still stuck. I complained, and was promised a call-back and resolution. Nothing happened I complained, and was promised a call-back and resolution. Nothing happened I complained, and was promised a call-back and resolution. Nothing happened I complained, and was promised a call-back and resolution. Nothing happened Spot the pattern? "Customer services" is misnamed. Customer Resolution don't resolve issues. As a SIP holder I had no choice but to use them. Avoid at all costs if you can If you are in a position of influence for your firm, don't use them The web site is good. The staff are personable. Support sucks

“Do NOT deal with this company ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/10/2021

They are not transparent with their fees. I had more than 100 pounds worth of shares and by the time they took their fees I was left with 60p. Normally when you trade something the terms and conditions are clear. But with these guys you get to understand what your costs are after its too late. Avoid using them if you possibly can

“Shoddy website ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Banks12 on 08/09/2021

Website complicated and full of tech errors and glitches. If you need assistance you're kept waiting 15-20 minutes for help which is of their making. On top of that you'll probably need a new activation code which will take a week to arrive.

“How on earth can Tesco and Imperial Brands use Equiniti”

★☆☆☆☆

written by EnduringPOA on 18/08/2021

Trying to sell some shares either by phone or worse on their share site has been an absolute nightmare. They call it a helpline. Just try calling it. After two days of continual trying to get through, at all times. They still were unable to help in spite of doing everything they had requested. Eventually they asked me to call the same number I had originally called. Needless to say, on two occasions when asked if I would like to complete a customer satisfaction survey, the line just went dead. Still trying - but very frustrated. All calls recorded for verification!

Avoid these people. They promised to transfer stocks so I provided numerous documents and the required fee. They did nothing, won't return the fee and will not respond to emails or phone calls.

“Avoid them at all costs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Cochran38 on 31/07/2019

Set up an account years ago for my company share save scheme and confirmed my bank details at the time; After selling some shares I requested a bacs transfer but was told that I had not confirmed my banking details and that payment would be by cheque; which eventually arrived; set up my banking details again in readiness for my next trade. Next time I sold shares the same thing with the banking details, cheque eventually arrived. Reconfirmed details. Same thing every time I sold shares. Just sold some more shares but this time, knowing that they would never do a bacs transfer, I requested a cheque. They then wrote to me requesting the certificates which I returned to them and yesterday they send me a letter saying that they are unable to confirm my identity using an external reference agency, utter rubbish. I have had to fill in a form and send them my passport. Anything to keep hold of your money for as long as possible. Will be closing the account as soon as I get my money…

“Total incompetence”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Audrey230 on 20/05/2018

I am administrator for some share holdings. I have been trying to get back dividends etc since the beginning of January. The the amount of administration costs for every cheque issued is exorbitant. It takes a month or more to reply to anything. I cannot understand why they are not investigated. I have never dealt with such incompetence.

Similar experience. They have failed to pay me interim dividends. This is the third time-to the best of my knowledge. Write. Do not bother to phone as you are on hold. Then you might get through to someone who gives you the corporate line. ie the run around. Dreadful. Eventually got a letter noting they are dealing with my complaint

“They sold my shares without my knowing”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/01/2018

I logged in my account to see the only share Imagination Tech got sold in December. I was shocked, but seeing the money, I just transferred it to my bank before it disappeared. How can this Equiniti be allowed to run FINANCIAL SERVICES? I had kept the share as I knew there would be a rise at the end of this month, but no, someone sold them for me. I discovered in on a weekend and couldn't even phone anybody. DON'T EVER TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR MONEY! You have been warned. They were supposed to look after my shares under Sagashares direct.

“If you're an Executor you are in for trouble with Equinity”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 10/12/2017

A simple change of ownership of three shareholding resulted in a nightmare of incompetence. Wrong forms sent by the Bereavement Dept,; forms not sent; share certificates sent in the Executor's name instead of the widow's; extremely high charges to transfer (over £95 per shareholding) - hours holding on the phone for them to pick-up. And all this was carried out by a dedicated Bereavement Dept. The specially created Complaints Dept was no better. The warning to everyone is that Equinity have an actual complaints dept. Perhaps a better name for them might be Iniquity

“Terrible service, but Equiniti don't care!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by dommiz on 29/09/2017

It should be a simple process to deal with the estate of a deceased relative when they own less than £1,000 worth of shares in Lloyds Bank. But Equiniti manage to make this process painful and expensive. Their dealing charges are outrageous, and their website simply doesn't work. When trying to sell shares (after many weeks wasted to set up a 'Shareview' account), the form is quite detailed, and if you take too long to fill in and double-check important details such as bank account number, the screen freezes with the message 'session expired'. It is like trying to get throug a time trial on a difficult Playstation game. Clearly, Equiniti hope that you give up so they can charge you 4 times the fee to do the transaction over the phone or by post. Their service is so bad, and the website so dysfunctional, that I must assume Equiniti are almost a monopoly, so do not need to worry about competition or angry customers. Real investors will use a real investment service, so why should Equiniti care?

“Totally incompetent”

★☆☆☆☆

written by waYork355 on 01/06/2017

If you want a professional service steer clear! I have been trying for months to cash in my late fathers shares and they have lost paperwork, sent the incorrect paperwork and sent forms back asking for others that are in fact identical! Useless load of job worths! If you lose the certificates they want an indeminity form signed and cheque written for replacement certificates even when they know the client has died. Do they think the deceased will sue them when the forms are completed by the executors? Really really useless - go elsewhere is my advice.

“Dreadful service.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by xrBaird483 on 06/12/2016

I have holdings with Equiniti that were from a now deceased holding held in my fathers name. I have been trying to access these holdings for a long time now. I have sent in letters of authority in order to gather information on the holdings along with the share certificates. After sending in the letter of authroity i had to chase them as i hadnt heard anything back from them. I was told that i was now the holder and that they had sent me confirmation to the my address along with the share certificates, which i confirmed was correct over the phone. I then waited another month and still no word. I rang them again and they reiterated that it had been sent and after i told them that i haven't received it and could they reissue the docs , i was told that their would be a charge for new certificates. Obviously as the documents were important to me as its the only way i can act on the holdings, i asked if they was sent recorded delivery as i they was delivered to them ... 2nd class!!!!!!!! at that point i got annoyed. I work in finance and would never dream of sending client documents 2nd class. After i asked if they would pay the fee for the new certificates they replied well .. its not our fault we sent them... i asked them to send me a copy of the letter which they told me they would. it has been 3 months and i have still not got the certificates or the copy letter that they was "sending". Since then i have had dealings with them in my job and have never had a positive experience with them. I cannot stress enough .... stay away from this company and if you have shares with them.. explore your options!!!

“Incompetent, jobsworths”

Avoid at all costs. Equiniti seek to make substantial profits out of the transfer of small shareholdings following the death of the shareholder.

“Avoid at all costs - A zero rating if the option existed”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SAChesterfield on 08/11/2016

My father died and left 4 holdings with Equiniti, not large amounts and as his estate was not subject to probate, Equiniti charged £148.50 to transfer the holdings into the name of the executor under a small estate classification. In addition to this we were advised there were other mandatory costs associated with selling the shares set at a minimum of £60 or 1.5% of each holding, further investigations revealed this to be untrue as you can at least circumvent this by dealing online (after creating a new account). Selling online will still result in an additional £120 in charges alone. Throughout the 5 month process of trying to cash in the shares (which is now nearly, but not yet over), dealing with Equiniti has been a nightmare of mixed messages and incompetancy that has required numerous phone calls to try and move things forward. I would advise anyone to either not use this company or withdraw your holdings to save someone else a similar painful experience.

“Bad company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dwarfy1 on 29/09/2016

I had a number of long standing complaints with this company, still not resolve but you can get no where as even FCA will do nothing about them, they have replied to my complaints without answering them pretending to be someone else and the board of directors don't even respond to my letters as I including them in most of my letters so they had copies, FCA doesn't see a problem with them not answer my complaints and each complaint raised more complaints as the replies really come from their complaints department not the name on the letter, I was even able to prove it! Staff on the phones don't know what they are talking about, when you check on the internet its because they have a high turnover of staff, poor treatment of staff and management that don't care. I have all the letters and replies to prove what I am saying Please don't use them for your own peace of mind

“Avoid!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Finch491 on 05/08/2016

Appalling, no other word for it. Pot luck with customer services that you will get someone who knows what they are doing or cares. Processes bound up in paper - a paper form for everything and little online. Rubbish electronic trading, shocking complaints procedure. Am at the point of referring an issue to the FOS 'coz all you get are error filled responses or holding letters when you try to raise a complaint. USE THIS COMPANY AT YOU PERIL!

“shocking, makes trading a nightmare”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rymlia on 22/07/2016

thankfully I'll never have to use them again. My company uses Equiniti Shareview for their employee share scheme and they are so antiquated. Selling shares takes you to another screen where you have to enter more personal information (despite being in your user account) and then you have to provide bank details and then you can trade. Any pricing moves well good luck! Hargreaves and Lloyds online are far better.

How can I find out the value of the small number of shares that Equinity held for my late Mother and which I wish to have transferred to me as the sole beneficiary of her small estate? Your website is very hard to work out!
