“Never buy this boiler”

Written on: 03/05/2013

Never buy this boiler. It is very likely to break down frequently. It takes ages to get through on the expensive Ferrolli hotline after usually being cut off several times. It also seems to take over 10 days to get parts which in mid winter is a very long wait with no heating and young children. Follow and share your experience of this boiler. (read more)

Oh, and shocking sub contracted Ferroli engineers because they dont have their own anymore, who have no idea how to repair the boiler. “EXPENSIVE PIECE OF JUNK!!!”

Written on: 21/04/2013

I've only had this boiler for 13 months and it's under warranty but it's already managed to break down. It was very expensive to buy and it's a piece of junk. For the past four weeks I've been continuously ringing up Ferroli about when the engineer will fix my boiler but their only excuse is that they are still shipping the parts. From where exactly in the world does it take 4 weeks to ship just one part? The moon?!? I would give it zero stars if I could because I am the one suffering... (read more)

“never ever buy these”

We moved into a rented property and from day one had problems with this product. It is claimed these boilers had five years warranty. What a load of rubbish. When you do manage to speak to them after a lot of waiting at a silly phone call expense the customer service is terrible. If you are one of the lucky ones who does get a engineer beware still as they will find any way out of fixing the problem in my case it was because my landlord had his own corgi registered plumber who serviced the... Written on: 13/04/2013

Decided 2 years ago to replace our old boiler has it kept breaking on an annual basis ( it could be forgiven as it was 15 years old!). However we now have exactly the same problem. This boiler has failed annually since installation, and whilst the warranty has covered it we have once again been left for a period of about a week without hot water or heating. This is just not acceptable. The timer has never worked properly and the call centre keeps you on hold for between 15 and 30 minutes... (read more)

Dear Sirs

Ref: , Croydon, CR0 7DA

I spent the whole day on Monday, 25 February, trying to get through to your offices to report a boiler fault. I eventually got through in the afternoon after spending a considerable amount of time on the telephone. The boiler model is a HE26, and was purchased in Wickes 14 months ago.

This fault causes the boiler to leak water and lose pressure, which results in no hot water or heating. This is precisely the same fault that I reported 6 months ago. I can only conclude that the original problem was not properly fixed and the boiler was defective from the onset.

An engineer visited my home on Tuesday and reported to me that scaling had caused the boiler problem. He also claimed it was due to a dripping tap over the kitchen sink - a tap that had began leaking 2 days earlier.

Although the engineer seemingly fixed the leak in the boiler, I am still without hot water. (the heating has since stopped working) The engineer left stating that Ferroli would call me regarding a new part that he believed was required to resolve the problem. He also stated that the scaling had damaged the heat exchanger, and that I would need a new one. The engineer did not say when Ferroli would call. He was clearly in a hurry to leave and did not seem to care that he was leaving me without hot water.

I find this situation unacceptable. I did not receive a call from your office, and despite continual calls I have made to you, your telephone system states you are unable to answer due to a high number of calls.

I have taken advice on the matter from various sources. I have been informed that it is extremely unlikely that scaling would damage the heat exchanger in a 14-month new boiler. Notwithstanding this, I do not live in a hard water area. In other words, I do not have problems with scaling with my domestic appliances. I am particular concerned that the engineer claimed that a dripping tap had caused the scaling. On that basis alone, I will question his professional integrity and honesty.
For the above reasons, I will say Ferroli has breached the Supply of Goods and Services Act 2002. Rather than pursue this matter using legal means, and contacting the Trading Standards, I am asking that you telephone me immediately with a view of resolving this problem. I have already endured costs from my loss of work, and I fully intend to claim all unnecessary expenses should I not have this fault addressed to a satisfactory conclusion. I put you on notice that legal proceedings will be brought against you in the event that I do not receive a response from you by 2pm today.

In the meantime, please reimburse me with the costs I paid for a service.

Finally, please note that I am sending a copy of this letter to the local newspaper in your area. I was shocked to learn that that there are numerous complaints about your company on the Internet. The newspaper may wish to investigate this.

Yours faithfully

I have been informed that this company are in financial straits too. I'm shocked how bad their customer service is. My plumber is stunned by it too. They charged me £75 for a missed call when they were supposed to call me 1 hour first. I think I want to be rid of my boiler now, I want my money back. Should have paid more for peace of mind. Instead mine keeps switching off all the time. 4 engineer visits later they still cant make it work. This product should carry a government health warning. I'm constantly cold since I had it installed in November. Trading standards say I have to pursue my plumber as he installed it although his workmanship is A1 ??????

Contact Citizens Advice. They have told me my Ferroli is not Fit For Purpose under the 1979 Sale of Goods Act. This is a separate issue to warranty or guarantee. They must repair, replace or refund under this Act. “Fairly efficient but poor quality parts”

Written on: 26/10/2012

We moved into our rental property and were faced with this monstrosity of a boiler. It's probably the worst boiler we've ever had to put up with, but unfortunately we're lumbered with it. The first winter it broke down at least three times — twice it was the same part that had failed. At one point we were without heating or hot water for at least 3 weeks. Thank goodness for our electric shower. Quality of parts seems to be very poor. When it actually runs it does appear to be quite... (read more)

“The Indoor Waterfall maker!”

Written on: 25/10/2012

The biggest piece of junk I have ever bought (Ferroli Optimax HE31C) strangely enough, the moment the guarantee expired, so did the boiler. The faulty part in question was the cheap plastic water inlet manifold which, through bad design, sprung a leak right where the mains water was fed through... and resulted in water pouring through the ceiling. plumber called, and two hundred plus quid later it was working again.. until eight months later when it happened again with the same result....... “AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE ”

Whoever designed and sells this boiler should be totally ashamed of themselves - have had nothing but trouble since it was fitted 4 years ago - have had British Gas out approximately 15 times with different parts fitted each time - stay clear of Ferroli - cannot get through when ring (read more)

“never mind the floods outside”

Written on: 20/10/2012

Can't wait for the 5 year warranty to expire!!!! 2 years in and 4 breakdowns, kitchen flooded 3 times. Weeks without heating, waiting for parts. Poor customer service. I can see this being smashed next spring. this is the worst product we have bought since the Ariston 1258 CD washer drier.we were recommended this ,perhaps it was April fools day. the 3 breakdowns were leaks, one after 6 weeks. The other an error code which would not go -electronic. If I could award this 0 I would. If you... (read more)

“Total Junk!”

Written on: 11/10/2012 by shebro (1 review written)

If only we had listened to a relative who is a plumber, we would never have installed this heap of junk, we get it serviced anually as required by the warranty, but it still rgularly breaks down and it needs parts, after one breakdown and a service at the same time, 2 weeks later it breaks down again and we have to go through the whole thing over again going through the useless ferroli helpline process. The first thing that goes wrong when the warranty runs out and it will be junked. My... (read more)

“The worst buy I have ever made”

Written on: 21/09/2012

The requirements of a combi boiler: 1-Heat hot water on demand -FAIL 2-Heat central heating system as per timer -FAIL Actual performance: 1 year OK, then multiple problems with around 5 different error codes. Extremely Poor support from Ferroli, with no after care. Resulted in replacing heat exchanger for hot water, main PCB board, and still issues. Recommended to replace main heat exchanger!. It also leaks internally all over my loft floor. Would recommend anyone NOT buy Ferroli. I am... (read more)

I too have a boiler under Ferroli 5 year warranty which runs out next month. On 1st call out under warranty earlier this year it took a week for any response. I had to strongly complain by email before I got that response. Again last weekend I had to report a fault to them and can't get any reply. I have tried phoning (premium rate phone number) and each time I get cut off before even speaking to anyone so sent emails with urgent red exclamation mark still no reply. I just can't get in touch with anyone. It's as if no-one human exists in the company!!!!!

Buy any boiler but Ferroli the company is bad and the attitude when you need help stinks this boiler is not gas registered and british Gas will not touch it stay away.

“spends more time broke than working”

Written on: 19/09/2012 by edmunds06

This boiler was the worst buy we ever purchased. The plumber said it was economaical and it was because it was always broke down. We had it fiited in 2009 February and within two months the gas valve had gone nd we had to ring up and get reapied which took a week. The boiler pressure needs to be checked ever week as there is an internal leek with-in.It had several lots of problems with leeks after. The final straw was just before xmas 2010 when we had snow the boiler broke down again.... (read more)

I have had nothing but trouble with this, if it's not broken down its leaking, the guarantee is not worth the paper it's written on, I am going to contact trading standards. It's not fit for purpose. (read more)

“Ferroli Warranty is a scam”

Written on: 28/08/2012 by Badger2029 (1 review written)

They advertise a 5 year Warranty. WORTHLESS!! They don't tell you that even though you send in the Warranty Registration card with the boiler purchase barcode attached to it but lose your boiler manual with the service records in the back your repairs won't be carried out under warranty. Your warranty is void without it!! Had a small plastic pipe burst 2 weeks ago on my 22 month old Optimax HE Plus 31C boiler, water came through the hall ceiling and destroyed everything in the cupboard... (read more)

I had a ferroli optimax fitted in 2010 had more than a few problems with it & had to call an engineer 3 times in the 1st year. Called an engineer last month who said the hot water ws not working due to a wireless thermostat that was faulty charged me £75 as a non boiler fault call out. I had a neww room stat fitted the water was still not getting as hot as it should so called out ferroli engineer, this time he fixed the fault but ferroli took another £75 from my debit card & said that as the benchmark was not filled in properly the charge would apply & the warranty on the boiler was now nul & void. No engineer fron ferroli who previously attended said anything about the benchmark not being filled in correctly. I contacted the installer who assured me all paperwork was in order. Is it because ferroli are looking for any excuses to nul & void their warranties. It says a lot when I contacted British gas for a warranty on the boiler & they would not cover a Ferroli boiler. DON'T BUY A FERROLI BOILER

No way they should have charged you, they weren't non boiler faults, the wireless thermostat is a Ferroli product which is part of the boiler set up, it won't work without it. Its disgusting!!! Pity they have your debit card details but they should not take any money from your account without your prior authorisation. Did you give them permission to take it. I think this is a poor boiler and Ferroli know it so yes, they are looking for any excuse to get out of the warranties, although I do think a lot depends on the engineer that you get too. The guy who fit my boiler will not fit Ferroli anymore, he has enough of them and their so called back-up and warranties.

“Don't understand the negative reviews”

Written on: 07/08/2012 by cl22cl (1 review written)

I've had this boiler for 3 years now and the only problem I've had with it was a month after it was installed when the diverter valve failed. Called Ferroli and they had an engineer there the following day. The engineer was a Ferroli engineer, not Homeserve, and attempted a repair. The repair worked for a few days then the valve failed again, the engineer said it might and that if it did happen he would replace the valve. Called Ferroli and next day the engineer replaced the valve and... (read more)

You must work at ferroli. The boiler is rubbish. And the after care is even worse. £150 over the phone and 50 every half hour the engineers are here! We have already spent £900 on fixing it abducted now they want more! It's only been in 2 years.

“worst boiler on market”

Written on: 29/07/2012

I have been a gas engineer for 20 years and I will not touch Ferroli boilers, just look at them and they leak. Total inferior build quality. CHEAP AND NASTY. The 5 year warranty is not worth the paper its written on as Ferroli do all in their power to avoid sending out an Engineer(incidently Homeserve). If they do send an Engineer be prepared to wait up to 2weeks, then they will try to charge you as the Engineers have been guided to charge as installation faults. (read more)
