I recently ordered a Ice card for a 3 day trip to New York, thought with their emergency card back up plan it would be a safe way to take my money, only to find one afternoon whilst trying to purchase some goods at a check out that they had frozen my account for no reason, as you can only call within UK banking hours to have access to you account details to find out why . “Everything they said they would do was carried out...”

I found the company via Google search. The rate quoted was unbelievable, it was virtually the commercial rate. It was promised for next day delivery, at no extra cost and although ordered as late as 3pm it was duly delivered with my post the next morning. “Avoid ICE at platform 7 Victoria Station”

I went to ICE at platform 7 Victoria station London and it was a pure waste of time. The member of staff finished serving the person who was before me then started talking to her colleagues. She was talking and talking about what she saw on television and ignored me. After 4 minutes of waiting I walked away without being served. “Beware of exchange rates.......”

We called Ice in advance of our holiday to enquire about ordering South African Rand and were advised that we could collect our currency at Edinburgh Airport. When we arrived at the airport we were advised that the rate was well below their online exchange rate as the 'Rand' was not one of their currency deals! Our branch network and online delivery service are completely separate, therefore the rates do vary.

If the branch knew that you had been on our website then they should have informed you of this when you spoke to them and I apologise if this was not the case.

“Call centre not open enough”

Travelling in the States. Card blocked. Found out Friday lunchtime when offices in UK shut. They are only open 10 til 1 on Saturday which is 2 til 5 in the morning for me. Not convenient. 24 hour helpline is only for reporting lost or stolen cards. No other help available. I have been charged for cash withdrawals and the rate of exchange is poor after their service charge is taken off. Use something else!… Read Full Review

We are currently looking at solutions so that we can have longer customer service hours for our ICE Travellers Cashcard customers.

Unfortunately although ICE Plc make no charges when using your card, some ATM’s and retailers may make their own charge. We do state this in the terms and conditions and the FAQ’s. These charges are completely beyond ICE Plc’s control and they would be levied with any card used at that ATM/retailer.

“Beware the limit in number of cash withdrawals”

Buried in the terms and conditions is a limit of 15 cash withdrawals per month. We are travelling through 8 different countries in Eastern Europe with 5 different currencies so have used the Ice prepaid card to make smaller withdrawals near the end of the stay in each country so as not to have too much currency left. Two days ago the card stopped working in cash machines. Ice have limited contact hours so only found out today about the 15 withdrawal limit. There is nothing they can do to allow… Read Full Review

We do state the limits of the card in our terms and conditions and in the FAQ’s section of the website.

Although there is no way we can allow customers to go over 15 withdrawals per month, the card can still be used for purchases and some retailers will offer cashback.

My comment was to highlight the info was in t&c's. Unfortunately, the info isn't highlighted in your advertising and it is a major limitation. Stating many retailers allow cash back on my experience is nonsense. We didn't find one.

Yes front end service is good. But wait until you are overseas and want to use the card or have a problem and need help from ICE. Their opening hours make it near enough impossible to contact them if you are in a very different time zone.

Well to be honest I NEVER use a card abroad only cash . its much less hassle by using cash and saves any bother such as you say. So this method I use I find, works for best for me . And thats what counts as far as I see it
If your method doesn`t work ,you either go somewhere where it will, or change your tactics is all I can suggest. But ICE worked for me and I said so accordingly.

“Poor call centres”

I used ICE travellers cash card. They block the card extremely often, and only have call centres that operate 9-5 UK time Monday to Friday, and a very short window to call on Saturdays. So if you´re travelling like I am, and can´t call at the right time, you can´t get your money and left in trouble abroad.
