I have had a couple of claims with these guys. The first one went through within 3 months and I received £1900 then a bill of 600 approx for their fees. The other claim I have heard nothing about. I have asked Belmont Thornton for a copy of the signed agreement saying I agreed to pay them 25% and they have told me they haven't got one! I had number of claims with Belmont, they did sweet f all, 2 years later,after i had to appeal to the Ombusman I got paid out, 30% of which Ive got to pay to Belmont !! they are lazy imcompetent, they dont reply to calls/emails/texts if u have a problem. but they SURE do perk up their game when they smell money!!!!! “Lying cheating company”

I used this company to claim ppi. They did not chase it for 5 months, I have done all of the chasing, I complained to them and all I got back was sorry we didn't bill you earlier. About 18months ago i contacted the aforementioned to pursue a ppi claim. They sent me the pack, which i duly filled in. A few weeks later they replied saying that the case would take a long time and so they would leave it to the ombudsman. (To me this sounded like they had dropped the case). Having dealt with both BT ad the MOJ, all I can say is that BT were completely in the wrong and the MOJ allowed the company to continue to hassle me for the fees due to claiming my incorrectly sold PPI. There was a 5 month delay in Paragon paying my refund due to the amount of claims they were paying out and BT wanted their fee immediatly - I even received legal action notifications from them. The Ministry of Justice did buggar all to get them to wind their necks in, it was decidied they were in the right to demand their fee.

I have refused to pay these criminals and referred a formal complaint to the Ministry of Justice (who sadly have been slow to process). In spite of advising them in writing, by email and over the phone multiple times that I am not satisfied, and that they have not done any work to justify their fee, they still pursue me for payment, using a collections agency which my better instincts having worked for similar fraudsters in the past suggest is probably internal to them. I too have put claims trough BT and am totally disgusted by their service - or lack of service!
I informed them at the beginning that their fee's were totally over the top for the service they provided and asked for them to stop the claim. They told me that I could stop the claim but that there would be a fee for that and it could possibly be higher than what the 'winning fee' would be. So I reluctantly let them carry on as I felt that if I did chose to cancel - I would not be able to afford the fee. I was told that any payout would go straight to my debts and that I would be respnsible for the fee's.
I am in a situation now where they are about to send a debt collector to the door. Help!

No success so far. The Ministry of Justice are at least as incompetent (though in their case I think it is incompetence rather than malicious malpractice). In the end I paid (name removed) (who I strongly suspect is Belmont Thornton under another name based on the amount of detail the guy on the other end of the phone had to hand. I opted to pursue this at a time of my own choosing- I suspect that a submission to small claims court will be enough to get the money back in the end- it is not a contract under English law unless Offer, Acceptance and Consideration are all in place, and by refusing to pay due to dissatisfaction, the requirement for Consideration is failed.

Mean time I have threatened the Ministry of Justice that I will take them to the European Court if they persist in ignoring my emails. The so called caseworker only sent an instruction to BT to stop chasing payment so 3 weeks after I had paid (in spite of me making very clear by email that I had 6 days to avoid a court appearance- sure I could have won in court, or I could have got some judge who always favours corporations, so didn't want to take that chance in that particular type of court where the judge will be more used to dealing with debt issues than contractual ones).

Pay them NOTHING- if you have done the work yourself they are entitled to not one penny.

Inform the Ministry of Justice- its a case of harassment if they have done nothing to justify the fee.

Phone the bank's appropriate department and get them to confirm that BT have done no work as regards the claim- as you'll see above they were quite frank in telling me that the only calls ever made regarding the claim were by myself- in fact by not answering my questionns properly BT actually DELAYED my receipt of money- until I'd made another payment and a recalculation was necessary.

Quote the time, phone number and person spoken to, to the Ministry of Justice, and if need by they, or any court if BT are stupid enough to pursue payment in that way, can listen to the call as evidence. They may continue to pursue as they never believe a case is with M of J until those guys actually phone them and tell them to stop pursuing, but with such blatant evidence they run a high risk not only of being ordered to compensate you for harassment etc as well as the fees being quashed, but heavy fines from the ministry, and even a ban on operating in a similar line of business if similar cases are found, which given the fact that all these comments are still stand, they are clearly all true and compatible with UK libel laws, and these bandits should be hung as high as we can build the gallows.

I have been informed that if I do not make a payment of £26 (25% extremely high and NOT made obvious via TV ad) now that I will be referred to solicitor. I like many other people have made the mistake of using Belmont Thornton to claim back ppi, the claim payout is £4563.44 and I am still waiting, not long after being told they had got this for me they sent me out a bill for £1369.03 this was to cover work they had done and vat, I phoned them up several times and explained that I have got nothing as the authorisation letter from the bank was already filled in by bt so the money would go to them and they would forward the money less expenses... Please do not use this company, they do not deliver on service. The cannot update you on your specific claim, they take days to answer emails, if you call you wait for ages and they still cannot update you on your claim their agents just give general information. I have just handed over £780 (inc VAT) to VAT for a poor service, infact they actually have done nothing. We took many calls from the PPI provider as they could not obtain responses from BT. Please Please, Please be fully aware of what you are signing for when dealing with Belmont Thornton. Their fees are 25% of the overall claim refund plus VAT (another 20%). Their fees also become payable the moment you agree to the offer of settlement, even if the company concerned is not going to pay you till later in the year. we are having similar probs. A settlement amount has been agreed but the other side are on in a position to pay until later this year (Central Capital). Belmont Thornton are demaning their £800 from us even though we have not seen/may never see the money. We now have a threat of a debt collection agency.

I actually just answered one of their ads on the web (Loan Claim Company) to receive a claim form thru the post. Did a google search about the company and drew me to here, funny enough after I finished the enrolment thing on their site, I got a call from a mobile no from Belmont Thornton direct, and I thought that was very fishy why use a mobile number, if its a company they should have an office number to contact me.

Once the claim form comes thru the post I'm going to send it to Watchdog. Lucky I didn't part with any money as at the moment we are desperate for cash, as at the moment going thru bad times when me and partner are out of work.

i emailed them on 1st june and threatned them with the ministry of justice 2 days later i had a phone call to say that fos had sent it to the adjudicator in march and i would hear withing 28 days and i havent heard a thing i phoned them and emailed them again but nothing, not sure what to do at the moment its so frustrating nowing the comments people are making about them im worried there going to ask me for there percentage before i even get anything can any one help

God we have just been told we are getting 7,500 gb pounds but they are taking 2,500 of it! They want there fee now but we haven't recieved the money!!
Surely they get the cheque then deduct their fee then pay us?? Not rocket science!!

since sending proof of payment from my PPI provider to Belmont Thornton along with a letter of complaint threatening the Minister Of Justice i received my cheque 9 days later. I suggest anybody who is waiting and has waited what could be considered an unreasonable amount of time take the same action, it seems they only spring into life when a letter of complaint is made and the MOJ mentioned. Belmont Thornton have bar far the worst customer service i have ever come accross, if your thinking of claiming your ppi back choose another company. Belmont and Thornton what a complete joke! July 2010 I put in a claim for Welcome finance filled in countless forms and sent off proof of my PPI's Janurary this year was delighted to find my claim had been successful and would be recieving my cheque shortly after. Started my claim in October 2010, at first it seemed really good got the welcome pack within days, then sent that off about 4 weeks later sent me a form to fill in why my i think my ppi is invalid, sent that off then waited about 8 weeks before i got a letter saying that i won my claim and i just needed to sign it and send it back.so three weeks later i phoned up to see what was going on and they told me that welcome have refused the sign agrement as it was missing/blank so they would need... Two words sum up Belmont Thornton - "Absolute Shambles". In November of last year i had a letter advising my claim had been a success as well as advising me the amount to expect by refund cheque - great i think! I called them about a month later to be told they're waiting for the money to be sent to them, "fair enough" i think. This is for anyone who has had a succesfull claim but has had problems getting their cheque. I had same problem and got so angry i took it further ring the Ministry of Justice on 020 3334 3555 follow the instructions and then tell them your problem with BT. They got intouch with BT for me and guess what i had my cheque within a week, this after two months of non successfull phone calls to BT. Good Luck (read more)

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
I have several claims going through them which have not been dealt with like they say.
I was paid out by one credit card comapny but as i had an outstanding balance they credited it to that and i stilled owed Belmont Thornton 25% which i paid back over four months but as of today they still claim i havent paid for two of the months although i have proved with bank statements it has been paid. As with all others I made a claim through Belmont Thornton and without the money being in my acount they sent demands for payment. Despite several calls and confirmation from my bank that the claim would not be settled for up to 8 weeks this company are sending treatening letters. I have let them know that I will not settle this claim until the money owed to me is in my bank. I say to others do not use these for they are expensive and not very nice to deal with.
