“ridicoulous additional fees”

we arrived in Milan just before Christmas. we boked a car with a broker with Maggiore.it this was the cheapest but then 2 bad surprises: 1. they wanted to charge us with an additional fees for winter equipment (tyres or chains) which are mandatory to drive on the majority of the roads in Italy in winter. it's like to rent a car without steering wheel! 2. after 3 weeks yesterday, they charged me with additional 42€ for an admin fee for a fine. this is ridiculous… Read Full Review

“Harrowing, life-threatening, intimidating”

8 Day Tuscany Fly & Drive with Milan, January 2016. I just returned and will warn all unsuspecting travelers to NEVER EVER book a trip with Gate 1 or rent a car from Maggiore. Dealing with Maggiore Car Rental was a nightmare, driving the car was life-threatening, and Gate 1 provided no assistance to us whatsoever. “AVOID- No stars”

Please listen to everyone writing these reviews. The company is a terrible rip off. We booked a certain type of car and paid the deposit, only to get there for pick up and the car type wasn't available. We got down graded to the type below but didn't get any sort of discount! We then had to pay extra for insurance as their machine would accept any of our credit cards for the 1800 euro guarantee - yes 1800 euro, this wasn't because of our card limit, the cards were usable. We have just received the same extra charge of €42 with no explanation on a rental in October which was finished off with them signing that we did NOT owe anything. This is an unauthorized charge, we have contacted Eurocard.

We rented a car at Maggiore sept 2015. Trappani Sicily. They forced us te buy an extra insuranace. Told us our deposit on the credit card was insufficient. This was not correct: we increased ouR deposit in advance. But this guy, a don-corleone-wanna-be just said: computer does not accept. So we were forced to take another insurance, extra costs €420. “extra charge of a day”

I delivered my rental at Pisa airport at the end of our holiday, early in the morning at 7.15 because of an early flight. The Maggiore office was still closed so I dropped the carkeys in the keybox in time according to the contract. On the invoice I received after several requests there was an extra charge for a day (100 euro!!) because they found the key in the afternoon while I was already home. “Maggiore car rental- warning !!! be ware !!!”

We rented a Van from Maggiore car rental in Venice airport. Our smallest problem was waiting almost an hour in the airport to receive the car: a poor maintained 70,000km Peugeot Boxer. Two days after renting the car, the side door broke. “Still waiting for a compensation decision”

We hired a car in Naples in July. The car broke down 5 miles outside of naples airport. It was 37 degrees, we were stuck on a highway, we have a son aged 4, a daughter aged 18 months, and my wife was 6 months pregnant at the time. Maggiore charged me for the repairs and I was not at fault with the car breaking down. “Never rent a car here!”

I booked a car with full insurance via the internet but my credit card was not accepted, so I was charged 18 euro extra for cash payment WITH THE SAME card! Arriving at the airport the full insurance was not a full insurance and I had to pay extra (nice sales trick !) Car rented out from Bergamo airport. Drove all the way to Garda (90 kms) and on arrival noticed that car tail gate was faulty (unable to lock). “Avoid like the plague”

In brief, car broke down after 1 day. Maggiore refused to supply a replacement and insisted we had to make our own way back to the original hire point. We had no car and were stranded in our bungalow deep in the countryside for two days. It was an awful experience. I could not believe a car hire company could behave so badly. “Extra fees, car not available, no response to complaint”

Car hire from Milan station through Maggiore car hire. Car 3 hours late, not what we ordered. Ended up with tiny Smart car instead of 4 seater car (we had lots of luggage. Booked to drop car off at Bergamo Airport. Paid up front with Easyterra. Charged another £50 after the event fro the drop off fee. No response to 3 emails to Easyterra. “Worst Car Rental Company Ever”

Maggiore are the WORST car rental company I have ever rented with and I would give them 0 stars if possible. We rented a car with them in Napoli, our car broke down as the engine failed, after a very expensive taxi trip back to Napoli airport and a missed flight, we were told that they would be in 'contact' with us. Having read many bad reviews about Maggiore, we were not expecting a good service, but they could not have been more helpful. There were no queues at Pisa airport pick up, the staff were friendly and quick, and drop off back at the airport was informal and speedy. We rented a car through Maggiore in Italy. There were multiple issues: 1) Horn was not working. They offered us to drive the car for an exchange to Milan (2 hours away). This is unfair since it would be at our own expense and wasting our time. 2) we received the car with 3/4 fuel tank and return it in the same way. I booked a car, paid in advance, entered the flight to the form. As written on the website, "Enter the flight/train number so we can check for delays". Yeah, right... When we got the car they told us to sign some papers for saying that we got the car but when got home from our holiday in Italy we found out that they totally TRICKED us. They instead had us signed papers for them to get an EXTRA £100. Arrived to be told that they would be holding €2500 on our card to get the car, even though we'd bought the maximum available insurance. When we get to the lot, the Maggiore attendant is shouting and swearing at customers and throwing things. Has his friend move a car that is front of our rental, but does not check the car himself.
