This kit has the best combination of full, punchy birch sound & looks for under $600. The included hardware kit is unmatched in a low-priced drum set - very heavy, nicely chromed and extremely durable. The value quotient of this kit is simply tops. My only beef is the tom mount system takes patience to set up and could be more stable. It is built to last and the sound is terrific even with stock single ply Remo heads. Upgrade the heads and it will sound like a thousand dollars. (read more)

I have owned this China Series (CS) 100 % Birch kit for three years Gigging with a couple of bands. Compared to my USA Ludwig's I owned previously, these are simply better sounding and the construction, fit, and finish is flawless. I'm still amazed at the price point and the overall value this kit has. I bought this same kit (CS325) for my sons in 2004 and must say I agree 100% with your review. It is am amazing sounding kit for the money, I paid about $600 with Zildjian ZBTs at the time. We have played on other budget sets, and the Custom Elite simply blows them away. This experience has made a believer out of me that Birch provides a wonderful punchy sound. My son had been playing a friend's PDP set last fall and when he got back on the CS325s, the first comment he made was this was so much better. The hardward Ludwig supplies is top rate also, very sturdy unlike many other budget kits. Overall, I don't think you can do better than this kit - Ludwig Custom Elite. Our's is orange and simply beautiful to look at also.
