“Beware”

Despite the tv cosy tv adverts, when agreeing to have a boiler installed the job won’r necessarily be done by BG as I found out to my expense. The adviser won’t tell you this. They contract the job out to joe bloggs down the road. After 6 visits from engineers to rectify problems left by the contracted think the new system is now ok. I was totally misled by BG and would advise anybody who is considering having a new boiler installed ask who the installer will .

“First class”

Came out within 24 hours and repaired our boiler the following morning. The plumber also did other checks and repairs without any extra cost. A full service was also completed to a high standard. So easily to book two hour slots. Plumber was reliable and called prior to arriving. Was such a relief after being majorly let down by another local company

“Installation Engineers to the rescue”

Having ordered a new boiler through BG salesman, it was delivered but found to be the wrong model by the BG engineer, due to the Salesman's mistake. The Engineer phoned through to his manager for a replacement. The manager located and delivered in personal car and allowed installation that day as scheduled. The salesman was paying more attention to trying to sell unecessary repacements to the existing system than making a sound assesment of boiler size and suitability. For the price premium BG expect for the "brand" they should offer top line staff in all departments Are the salesmen on commision that distorts their view of a competitive price and customer satisfation? More training required I think and a big thank you to the engineering staff concerned

“Boiler installed by British gas”

Had a top of the range boiler installed by British Gas. It was a big job involving removing old boiler from garage, removing tanks throughout the house, installing new combi boiler in kitchen, lots of pipework, bricking up holes in the wall of house and garage and electrical work. The 2 engineers, builder and electrician were all polite, hardworking and did an excellent job on what was not an easy installation. It is neat and tidy. We took out the British Gas 3 year finance which was convenient and is fine but very high interest rate. Price was a little high but not ridiculous. Perhaps could have got 10-15% cheaper elsewhere but would have been more hassle. Salesman was very good an a former engineer himself. I would recommend British Gas for a big job since its an all inclusive pipe with no unexpected extra costs or hassle.

“Expensive and not worth it”

I asked BG to give me a quote on a now boiler as my boiler is getting quite old now. BG qoted over £2000 for a simple job to change my existing boiler and install a new one in the same position. Some brick buildingwork and plastering was required as was a power flush and treatment of the heating sysem. I also wanted a new radiator in the bathroom which was included in the price. Compared with some horror stories I have read online just over £2000 seemed ok at the time but I asked some independent local gas fitters to give me quotes and the cheapest one was for around £1100, which included a power flush and rebuilding work around where the existing flue is. Also BG wanted to install a Baxio boiler which I did not want. I currently have a Glow Worm boiler and would like another as my existing one has been fantatic. You can also choose which boiler you would like with an independent gas fitter, although some have their favourite brands to install. Shop around - it is not difficult to better a quote by BG.

I took out a Homecare 200 agreement with British Gas in 2010 and I have not looked back.

I would like to thank the engineers that cover the Brentwood/ Shenfield area for proffessionally addressing a number of problems that had previously caused me a lot of distress. All of their work has been carried out in an efficient and timely manner.

“I chose to go with British Gas to install our new...”

I chose to go with British Gas to install our new boiler as there was a lot of work to do and I wanted it to be done properly - concerned with what you hear about dodgy gas fitters! I knew I was paying over the odds with BG but I thought it would be worth it to have an expert job! - it was a complete fallacy. Once they took my money a contractor (not a BG employee) turned up with his apprentice and made a complete mess of the job - his boy wonder apprentice managed to ruin three rooms carpets because he didn't bother to put down dust sheets, eventually had to get British gas to send engineers round 3 separate times to rectify errors over the next few months. Went through a ridiculous complaints procedure, they eventually paid some compensation but the whole experience was a nightmare. British Gas is all about clever marketing that is all...
