Birmingham & Midshires is the worst mortgage company if you become in arrears. They charge you £40 for a letter-which they send once every fortnight, I was charged £100 for a phone call!
I wish someone would do the same as they have done to the banks ask them to justify how they came to that amount. Maybe get some charges back. I in my case I have been charged £3000 in fees. I KID YOU NOT!!!

one month behind has induced the wrath of the arrears dept. being self-employed ,you are reliant upon being paid on time,or in my case, not at all. BM totally unhelpful when informed of the situation, before arrears occured.advised to sell my tools or van to satisfy their demands.reduced payments for a short period not an option. i got the impression that this dept is commission driven. with the exception of one employee, whom my wife spoke to on two seperate occassions,a miracle in itself, and ag ...

I have had a mortgage with Birmingham Midshires for 5 years. I am now due to re-mortgage and have been told that I cannot apply for any of the rates advertised on their askbm.co.uk site as they are only for new customers. Existing customers who wish to remain loyal to BM only get offered much much higher rates. As such I am moving my mortgage to another lender with significantly better rates. Obviously loyalty counts for nothing to BM. I would not recommend them at all. I would not recommend Bir ...

I would recommend that you take on a Birmingham Midshires Mortgage only if you want self cert with ease.

They don't offer best of the interest deals.

Owned by Halifax and Bank of Scotland!! wonder why they don't change their name!

Not friendly on the telephone. Not sympathetic either.
I was on long term sick leave from work and i rang to explain this. I was told that payments I offered would be acceptable. I was then bombarded with letters and phone messages threatening court action. I paid what I could manage and explained each time that as soon as I was back at work I would bring account up to date asap, but was then threatened with repossession received court summons.
I am now back at work, payments up to date and i ...

I have purchased 3 properties on a self certified basis. I had no accounts, but my broker manged to get mortgage offers from Birmingham Midshires, each time within 5 - 10 days of the survey being booked. The valuations never took more than 48 hours to arrange after I had instructed my broker.

Applied for remortgage with Birmingham Midshires and they sent a valuer. He has not done a valuation but charged me £465.
Birmingham Midshires and their valuers from Colleys (beware) refused to refund my money.
    Do not repeat my mistake!!!

OK for self cert for new home buyers going through brocker as going direct they don't offer the same deals either. Not very good for existing customers (reminds me of the nationwide TV ad!)as phoned up after 18 months to see if I could get better deal I saw them offer online and was given a big fat 'NO, brand new customers only!'...now seeking remortgage elsewhere.

Birmingham Midshires Mortgages told me I could only borrow 75% after paying £220 for a non-refundable valuation and despite the property being valued at exactly what I offered for it and being half of a couple both with very good salaries to pay for a propery well within our budget!

I have now been waiting three months for the outcome of my mortgage application to Birmingham Midshires. It should have been very straight forward. I was not applying for a vast ammount, I could easily meet the monthly payments, was in full time professional employment it should have taken aprox 21 days. That was until Birmingham midshires put the wrong product code on my application so it was returned from the underwriters when it was then lost in the system amongst a catalogue of other problem ...

We selected Birmingham Midshires repayment mortgage 6 years ago with a special low start scheme to buy our loyalty for 5 years. We then negotiated a nice lump sum payment on agreeing another 5 years.
