We had a office party last week and we wanted to get some good food. This was recommended by one of my colleagues and I have to say it was a real find. The service was great with a very relaxed atmosphere. We had a booking for 8 and they made extra effort to lay us out a nice table setting that offered us all the chance to converse and have a enjoyable experience. The food was great and not that expensive for it quality! Main from £6-7 is cheap in my opinion and they could have got away... (read more)

Not exactly a warm welcome. Had to wait whilst the menus were collated before taking us to our table. The only beer they sold was Toby on tap, no real ale or bottled. No wine menu was available hence no prices prior to ordering. Pate was very small, toasted bread was dry plain bread. The seafood platter was good value though lots of batter. The camembert was nice but again, dried bread. We went specifically for the 3 course for £12.50 but the 3 main courses were not appealing at all... (read more)

Such a spectacular diner! I was worried that on the Saturday night it will be packed and thus unpleasant, yet it wasn't when I went, so I had the satisfaction of being able to take a look around myself and speak normally with my friends. The wine menu was intriguing and the bar people highly proficient and helpful. I can't wait to get back there and try out more food or carry out a wine sampling. (read more)

I can honestly say that we have had exceptional evenings whenever we go to Landers. The food was divine, atmosphere was relaxing, and very much enjoyable. The service we recieved from the staff was wonderful. They were very polite, friendly and helpful. I love the fact that the restaurant is not too big and commercialised, very intimate. They let you take your time throughout the evening and do not rush to take your plates. Whenever me and my partner go there for an evening, we are literally... (read more)

Greeted with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere was soon as we entered the restaurant bar. The staff were attentive and the service was very good. The food was thoroughly enjoyed by all the party and a very enjoyable evening all round. The restaurant was very busy and added to the relaxed atmoisphere. Would certainly eat there again and recommend you give it a try. (read more)

I have eaten at landers in the past and rated it average but they excelled themselves on 24/10/09 the worst meal I have EVER had any where and I eat out 2-3 times a week.We asked for the manager and were told he was offsite when we asked to speak to the chef the answer was he does not speak to customers! The steaks were all well done although two had ordered medium to rare a very long black hair was found in the prawn starter (we were told it belonged to the chef) the chips were cooked to... I too had a horrendous experience at Landers, in September 2009. Again, the Manager was "off site" and the Chef (!) was unavailable for comment. This precipitated a letter of complaint as follows.....
<br/>
<br/>"Dear Sir/Madam
<br/>
<br/>Yesterday I visited Landers with two friends, ex-work colleagues from the Royal Hospital Haslar, a small reunion which should have been a joyous occasion. The restaurant was empty and the bar occupied by few people. One waitress was covering both. We were told rather abruptly to wait, then after a few minutes were shown to a table and given menus.
<br/>
<br/>About half an hour later the food arrived - two servings of scampi, chips and peas, and one of Cajun chicken, chips and salad, plus a side order of garlic ciabatta. Not exactly Haute Cuisine, but simple to prepare dishes.
<br/>
<br/>We were rendered speechless at what was placed before us.
<br/>
<br/>The "peas" were mushy peas (which both recipients dislike). The Cajun chicken "breast" was a scraggy, burnt, damaged leg with a small piece of wing next to it. The chips - they looked as though they had been left over from the previous day and recooked. They were black. Not to be put off just by the appearance, we all tried one. They were cold. They were soggy. The only items which appeared edible were the salad and the scampi.
<br/>
<br/>We called the waitress and explained as politely as possible why we couldn't accept the meals and were sending them back. Her response was one of disbelief. She tried to excuse the state of the chips by saying they hadn't been de-starched (??) She was clearly agitated, and rude. Her exact words were,
<br/>
<br/>"What do you expect ME to do about it?" !!
<br/>
<br/>Feeling awkward I suggested we take another look at the menus.
<br/>We perused the menus again but had completely lost confidence in the chef and did not want to risk another confrontation with the surly waitress should a second, different meal prove inedible. We said that we would not be reordering. The drinks bill (2 soft drinks and a glass of water) was slapped down in front of us. We paid and left, very disappointed that our reunion had been spoiled in such a way.
<br/>
<br/>At no time during our exchange with the waitress, was any suggestion of an apology forthcoming.
<br/>
<br/>Landers prides itself on being "the perfect place to dine out in Hampshire", "one of Gosport's best restaurants", and of presenting "high quality food" and having a "friendly atmosphere". One this occasion, none of the above came anywhere near to being true.
<br/>
<br/>The bar and restaurant are tastefully furnished and the menu looks very promising. This is why we chose to visit Landers. Had it proved satisfactory we would have recommended it and made it a regular venue. This will not now be happening."
<br/>
<br/>I received no acknowledgement. BUT..............
<br/>
<br/>Landers is now under new Management. I recently spent a very pleasant afternoon there with my sister. The food was good and the service excellent. We enjoyed it so much I am taking one of my ex-colleagues back there today.
