After 15 years loyalty to this MBNA Gold card I had to make a fairly modest and very justified Section 75 claim, (compensation for faulty goods.) They dragged their heels for 12 months on correspondence and finally refused to pay up. Within the next 12 months their attitude will cost them MORE than the amount claimed as I am moving my account and they'll lose all that sales commission.
Interest on the card is through the roof as well, especially when using abroad, although I usually settle monthly. Customer service, requesting another card etc, is polite and ok, but its when you need help they just don't want to know.

I've had an MBNA gold credit card for about 5 years and I can't complain about anything. I've had my details stolen twice now, once abroad, and they were just excellent to deal with. They are always professional, efficient and friendly. There's a human touch to their customer service.
I see a lot of people complaining about the way they act when they miss payments or get into debt. The only thing I have to say to that is: Who's fault is it in the first place? Don't use a damn credit card if you don't have the money to pay it off. It's not a particularly hard concept to grasp. How do you expect a company to act when you owe them money?
As for the interest rate, perhaps it's different in the States, but MBNA Europe are very competitive.

MBNA Gold Card are an absolute disgrace. I would really like to know at what point they will stop increasing the interest rate. I am having a tough time just paying the interest now so hardly any of the capital is repaid. I haven't had a card for this account for 8 years so the balance is purely interest and at this rate it will never be paid off.

MBNA are a big company, which makes their MBNA Gold Credit Card service impersonal, and not friendly.

MBNA is not an English company but an American one.
They are quick to charge late fees at the top of the range in charges.
They tend to use debtor collection companies when they think you are not responding to their letters, even though you are, and they don't respond to letters when you complain about this practice.
They send out blank cheques with payment requests trying to induce you over and over again to go further into debt if they consider that you are getting clear of debt.

MBNA Gold Credit Card - I have had a Virgin credit card they didn't send statements for two months then charged me late fees for both months, and never replied to my letters, also I have had a Alliance and Leicester credit card I made a payment on the 1st of the month and then they charged me a late fee on the 3rd, when I phoned to inquire about this I was told that they have to make money somehow. Both cards are run by MBNA so me personally I will never use any MBNA run credit cards again.

WARNING - Do not go for the MBNA Gold Credit Card. I have had it for 3 years not knowing how much interest I was being charged, when I began to struggle with my payments I realised I was being charged at 30% Apr.
What a rip-off

Set up DD wrong on my MBNA Gold Credit Card and I got late payment charges every month, not to mention credit rating damage.
Took MBNA 4 months to put it right with responsibility accepted by the company but on an individual basis not taken by them, so I had to do all the hard work.
Total rubbish.

It is the biggest scheme ever. I applied for a card 10/21/2003 and was instantly approved for it. I was told that I should expect the card in 7 to 10 days. It's been 20 days I have not received the card as of today. Besides I enrolled in a free 30 day trial of protection plan. I can not cancel this plan unless I have the account number, and of course I don't have since I never received the card. So, their plan is "oh, yeah it's free for 30 days , then we'll start charging you ungodly amounts of money, but you can cancel at any time, of course if you have the account number. Also I requested a balance transfer and that didn't happen either. I tried calling MBNA number of times and they just give me the run around and their regular BS. Nobodt out of maybe 10 people I spoke to was able to help me, nor been friendly. Don't make the same mistake

I got the cat lovers MBNA card and did the balance transfer thing which gave me 1.9% apr for 6 months. I made a cheque out on the card and it went over the limit. They increased the limit to accommodate the cheque and no charges were incurred.
