After 3 years of being with Start Rescue I was recently involved in a bad road traffic accident. They messed me around and lied to myself and the police dealing with the accident for 3 hours The police then had to recover the vehicle. I then spent 2 days travelling back and forth across Scotland to recover my personal possessions from the Van. They have since offered me £30 and then £50 of compensation. I have requested a reasonable level of compensation towards costs incurred and my premium refunded as quite frankly they shouldn't be in this business as they don't offer a service. They are aggressive on the phone and don't want to know. They won't even provide details of who to complain to and state we will ring you! AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!

Only used twice and never again. Poor service twice and no one knows what is happening. Start rescue takes the money, third party does the rescue. Told time of rescue and an hour later with no update still waiting , no one is sure what is happening. When recover driver did turn up the driver was complaining he had the wrong vehicle. When we eventually got to my drive he off load the car we had to try pushing it and had to get help from neighbour to push off the road ( still blocked other cars in). Driver was moaning that he had another 16 customers to see. 1. Once I report a breakdown I should not have to do their job by calling around 2. When a rescue time is sent to you you don’t except waiting for over a hour and half with no contact. 3. Recovery could have put vehicle on drive as room for 6 cars 4 I am disabled which I explained , but was expected to push a car , this was not taken into consideration especially as left in cold weather, which is not good for my health. I have now joined the AA , yes it’s more expensive but reliable.

Same experience for me. They left me standing on the side of the road for 3 hours and the Police had to arrange recovery. Absolute bunch of jokers to avoid at all cost!

Phoned at 9.30 am , gave precise directions after several calls ,they sent Breakdown to wrong address and town. Blamed me for the problems and said there Breakdown co0mpany had now refused to co0me out to me and that I had to contact them to try to persuade them to come out. They turned up at 4.30 pm acting no apology . took five mins to start the car. Long letter was sent to company in complaint, no admission of any guilt or apology. This was the Worst company I have ever had to deal with, and would never recommend it to a living soul. Lacking in any kind of empathy or Customer Service.

Our car broke down 31/05/21 6:50pm on the Motorway 2hours 1/2 hours away from home, luckily we were able to pull into a service station we immediately phoned the recovery (StartRescue) and waited 5 HOURS to be collected by Yorkshire Rescue. At least we were going home! So we thought. Drove for 30mins, ended up in Doncaster (30mins out of the way) to be told we have to change recovery vehicles but 'don't worry the other recovery vehicle is on it's way, will be 10 mins or so' we waited 20 minutes until we phoned again and spoke to a man from Start Rescue to be told that they can't fins anyone to take us? Our current recovery vehicle was unable to take us all the way to Skegness as were his instructions from his boss from Yorkshire Recovery Vehicles. We got abandoned in Doncaster service station at 1am. We was on the phone for over 30 mins, they wanted us to stay in a hotel, we was unable to as we both had work at 6am that morning. They could not find anyone to help us. After been told repeatedly there's nothing more they can do we were left in Doncaster service station with our broken car for another hour, until finally they suggested us getting a taxi which was covered under the policy. We had to leave our car in the car park and had to trust the nearby hotel with our car keys. We finally arrived home at 4am. We had broken down at 730pm! I have NEVER received such appalling customer service from anyone before. To be left scared, abandoned and feeling so trapped so far away from home at 2am in the morning is absolutely disgusting. It had ruined the end to our holiday. There are no words to describe how this company has made us feel. Just awful.

This is the second time I’ve used Start rescue and again the service was poor. This time I stood for 4hrs waiting for recovery. It took phone calls made by myself to organise what was happening with the recovery and once this was done a satisfactory and helpful technician arrived from sos motorcycle recovery. I will not be using Start Rescue again I’m afraid. Terrible.

Refused to come out and get me started as I had not given them 24 hours notice of change of vehicle which I have owned over 5 months. My fault for not up dating, how ever they could still of helped. Neadless to say I won't be renewing. They also wanted to charge me £90, for a jump start. I found a garage 0.5 miles down the road who charged me £20 and got me going. So they have gained a customer whilst start loose one. I expect a refund from them as I will follow up through small claims court and also complain to the FSA and get the ombudsman envolved.

as the car started so we were able to get home & booked into a garage 2 days later for repair .when we came to take the car it wouldn't start, we called you for recovery to the garage You REFUSED & told us it would £14o additional cost, then retracted & told us it would £320 as the car was automatic. YOU LEFT US STRANDED so disgusted with the service received but not this particular technician.

We have the 3 star policy which allows 1 recovery per incident. recovery was called out for the incident however it was cancelled with 10 mins of request as we got the car started so we got the car home. we called a garage and got it booked in for repair however you would not help us get the car there when we called again. My son asked for this to be looked I to and was told this was the decision and it would not be escalated.

The telephone operator was dreadful! I would have given her the rating of abysmal if I could have done. I asked to speak to her supervisor 2 or 3 times at least, when I eventually did I asked him to contact me with an update and he didn't. I have been very disappointed with the customer service on the last 2 times I've had to use Start Rescue.

THE WORSE SERVICE EVER RECEIVED !! after several years driving (35) and different kind of breakdown service around the world, this is the first time that I received the worse service possible. At 6.30 pm I used the mobile app to send my request, and the mechanic arrived around 7.15 pm, Then, thanks to the traffic officer we discovered that the recovery agent was sent to a wrong place (If I show on the app and I talk about my position and I say that we are on the motorway after the motor service junction, we have no understood why the agent was sent into the service on the other side of the motorway and then he left the place going back home, no calls or checking from anyone !! . After the mechanic arrived I told him the timing belt failed but he was searching for a timing chain ( !?!?!?) (The engine is a JTD 1.9 and no one of them has a chain ) ." I also wrote it on my recovery request" the mechanic spent 15 minutes to look the engine and then he left the place with no more news. After his useless visit nobody from startrescue answered anymore at the phone, I can show you that I called all your numbers dozen of times but the first answer was around 8.00 pm an agent answered the phone assuring me that the recovery agent was on the way and around 9.00 pm I spoke again with another agent telling me that the recovery agent was on the way........ (I was very angry over the phone and I asked them if it's their best service to leave their customers on the motorway over than 4 hours ) . The recovery agent arrived at 11.30 pm which is absolutely unacceptable for anyone !! We decided then agreed with the agent to leave us at one hotel (AT 1.00 AM )and he delivered our car at our home around 5.00 am So, we lost Eurotunnel booking, we were ready to hire a car somewhere to follow our journey but at 1.00 AM it was impossible to do anything, we lost our hotel booking abroad and MOST IMPORTANT, we lost our main reason of this travel , to visit a family member in hospital in Italy . That's why I'll never use startrescue anymore, I'll not suggest startrescue to anyone and I'll copy this review anywhere on internet because there are many way to solve problems but to ear all time "I'm sorry about it" is absolutely useless and unacceptable , especially after 4.30 hours waiting on the motorway.

Been with this company for years but first time used them was over a month ago and what a nightmare. My car was overheating so I pulled into the slip road and used the app to confirm breakdown. I got a call straight away but 18 mins on the phone to the operator trying to discuss where I was. The app showed them exactly my location. When the rescue company called me to see my vehicle, they told me it would take them too long to drive along the road and turn back so told me to drive my car to the end of the slip road (even though I told them the car was overheating). Not being a mechanic I done this. When the rescue company finally arrived 40 mins later they came with no tools or parts. Just a tow truck. The mechanic told me my engine was booked (damaged gasket and engine). I was towed back home (had to argue since he wanted to take me to Halfords to see if they would fix it) the words from this so called mechanic. Anyway, I got my car taken to a local garage a couple of days later to be found out since my car was driven while being overheating (as advised by the breakdown recovery) this caused more damaged to the car so I needed a whole new engine plus many other things costing me £3000 in total. A complete nightmare and this company should never be in existence. By all means pay the extra and go with AA or RAC. Imagine sending a breakdown with no tools. They aren’t interested in fixing your car just want to tow to somewhere.

What tools or parts do you suggest they carry? It's a RECOVERY service, only able to fix simple problems at the roadside or take you to a repairer, not a travelling parts store and fully-equipped workshop.

I would never use Start Rescue again, they were shockingly bad. I called them out and gave them my location, the name of the road and the fact I was in Wandsworth. I was assured they knew where I was. An hour later the rescue company says they can't find me, turns out they'd been sent to Crystal palace. I waited another half an hour only to be told the job had been cancelled, but nobody had told me. They said they were sending out someone else, but in an hour and a half. I had a child in the car and was not in a safe place to park, both of which I relayed to the operator, but made no difference whatsoever, they said there was nothing they could do. I couldn't wait another hour and a half with a child in the car, so had to push it to a safer place and then just leave it for a professional to look at and told them not to bother, which kind of defeats the purpose of having cover. Shockingly poor service, please be warned.

I have been with Start Rescue for the last three years but this was the first time I used them and what a terrible experienced it was. I had a tyre puncture yesterday (18/09/2018) so I called the customer service at 12:00 noon for assistance. After giving all my details I was told the recovery vehicle (Randys Auto) will arrive anytime between that moment and 13:50. 14:00 came and there was still no sign of the recovery vehicle so I called again asking for an update. I was then told the recovery company will be calling me directly. One minute later I received a text saying ETA 14:45! I called Randys Auto and was to the reason for the delay was because they were busy that morning which to me was a lame reason. Finally at 3:00 p.m. the driver arrived. When I told him I have been waiting for 3 hours his reply was, it could have been 4 hours!" And when I said I have not had my lunch he said "so am I." I was angry but held my tongue as I know I would have to ride with him to my garage. His attitude to a customer was not nice and he did not even apologise for his delay. The price of the breakdown cover maybe cheap but you get what you paid for. I will not renew my policy when it expires and I would rather pay extra for a better service.

Took payment from my Mastercard for my sons breakdown cover even tho he doesn't even have a car as sold before he went on 9 month deployment with royal navy to far east. Phoned to cancel the new cover but was told had to speak to son even tho it was my Mastercard and he is unavailable as in far east, most Unhelpful company , especially for someone serving in royal navy.

It took just under 4 hours for the technician to arrive and then it was decided I needed a tow truck which was organised through another company, which took a another half an hour to arrange and a further hour to arrive. The roadside assistance (Egertons) was very poor, slow and unsatisfactory. The tow truck operator and arrangement with that company was excellent - B&V Bicester. It was unfortunate that the tow truck had a puncture coming off the services which required police escort. I eventually got home at 2.45am From breakdown to home it took 10 hours in total. Start Rescue did not keep me up-to-date during the roadside assistance, I had to ring several times and got different operators each time. I was told 4 times that Egertons would be with me in 2 minutes over a 30 minute period. So obviously the communication between Start Rescue and their service providers don't keep in touch. I want to note that the tow part of the service was excellent and the driver was very professional and pleasant throughout his part of the service. I will be making a formal complaint as 4 hours to attend it completely unacceptable.

I would normally only get breakdown cover from one of the big names, AA, RAC, Greenflag, but I throughly I would try Start Rescue as they offered a good, cheap deal. What a mistake, I have been sat on the roadside now for one and half hours and I have just been told no one is on route yet to my location! Start Rescue has informed me that they will be another hour +! I informed them that there is a local recovery service, which I found on the internet, but they said they can’t use them as they are not contracted. So now the only option I have is to pay for my own recovery or wait for another hour( if they turn up!) The app is also flawed. I reported the breakdown through the app and it gave all the incorrect details to the customer service desk, apparently I had a head gasket that had gone! It was only a flat. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They are cheap yes, but cheap means paying twice. My next step is to try and get my money back, wish me luck! Policy: START707334

I bought a new car one month after taking out cover with Start Rescue and the new car came with 1 years AA cover. I called to cancel my Start Rescue cover and was told they'd cancel my cover, but wouldn't issue even a partial refund after 14 days, even if I'd not used the cover. Enjoy the free money I guess.

Don't be fooled by the 3, 4, and 5 star reviews by people who by their own admission 'haven't used them yet' I took out a breakdown cover policy, national cover, on my Ford Focus. £30 - great. Renewal came, £48? Okay, I guess so. Changed my car to a Vauxhall Insignia, no change in cost, no refund either - good at the time. Went to get European cover, found that if I was a new customer I'd pay £38 for national cover, not £48. Rang about a European cover upgrade, £28 extra. EXTRA. After they've pocketed the difference in my new car now being less risky to cover. Looked on the website, new customer would pay £58 for European cover on my Insignia. What??? Twice rang customer services to speak to a dire customer rep that didn't care about anything. Asked to speak to someone else, on hold for 5 minutes before they told me their supervisor couldn't answer the phone now and to email in and someone would reply tomorrow. SHOCKING. No way will I be renewing at all, I'd cancel if they'd give me any money back, which unlike every other company I can imagine that offers a similar service (eg, car insurance), they don't. Speaking of which, my car insurer gave me £38 when I switched my policy to my newer car!
