We have had a vitodens installed in a small 10 unit apartment. Ran fine for the first 5 years no real maintenance other then an annual service. However in the last 2 years we have had to replace the motherboard and a secondary board at a cost of cad1,000 approx. Now the stainless steel heat exchanger is cracked and obsolete so no replacement is available. The upshot is another boiler. They recommend a Vitocrossal cu3a. Sounds like a roll of the dice. Being so expensive you would expect a little more durability then the 13 years it lasted!?

Bought house with 4 year old Veissmann 100 boiler and have owned for a further 5 years. Heat exchanger prone to blockage so plumbers have to remove and acid treat every couple of years. Pressure relief valve failed, internal expansion failed, mystery losses of system pressures. Plumbers seem to love them (either due to easy maintenance or constant stream of work). Wish I had a Bosch Worcester......

I have a similar problem with this model boiler starting around 3 years after installation. I am looking around at others with the same problem. Can you tell me a little more about the detail of your problem.
1. Symptoms of the problem, including fault codes,
2. how frequently does it occur,
3. was your system installed by an authorised installer,
4. Have you resolved the problem, if so how?
any other details.

Since writing this review the Vitodens boiler has stopped supplying central heating altogether. Plumbers don't want to look at - only replace. not sure what is wrong possibly control board failure, blockage or outlet valve. Have decided to replace to get away from Veismann unreliability.

Re-pressurising the internal expansion vessel is a task during annual service. If the boiler isn't being serviced annually or the cylinder not being pressurised then the symptoms Described above will occur. These are maintenance related and not product quality issues.

boiler was fitted as advised by our local heating engineer, personally wanted a Worcester but was talked into having this instead. great for the first 2 years, then twice in 6 months the hose has burst emptying the water from the boiler all over the floor on my airing cupboard and through the floor. not impressed. wish I had insisted on the Worcester now!

Hi,
The only reason the hoses fail is due to system cleanser being left in the system water from when it was installed. It is imperative that all traces of cleanser are removed (as they should have been if the system was correctly flushed). Until you change your system water then I am afraid your hoses may continue to fail. Viessmann engineer

Watch out for the rubber hoses, they go with a bang!! 4 days to replace after Viessmann said they was not covered by the warranty even though system sound and clean. What a cop out, my installer managed to sort it for me? He will not fit any more after this shocking treatment to me the end user.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me. They refused to fit the hose under warranty and I have had to pay my installer to sort it out, even though I have a 3 year old boiler with a 5 year warranty! Customer service and aftersales care non-existent. Avoid Viessman at all costs they're great till they break down then they don't want to know.

My Boiler was installed new in August 2008 and has been a constant source of trouble and I would never ever recommend this boiler to anyone, although sadly I did to my brother in 2009. Consequently he also installed this same model and has had worse problems than me and is now looking to scrap it after less than 5 years and replace with a different make. I had a major water leak which almost flooded the house when the plate heat exchanger body, which is only secured by a couple of screws, worked loose and the water pipes came completely out of their rubber sealing rings. This problem reoccurred again during the past year, although this time it was a leaking sealing ring and the water leak was only a light trickle, which I could contain with a bowl. However, this month during the cold spell I was left without any hot water or heating, due to an ignition problem when the gas supply valve packed up. The engineer (not from Viessman) had to fit the valve twice, since the instructions on the packaging were all in German and he wasn't aware that you had to remove a small plastic plug from the port, prior to fitting. I've also had other new parts fitted including a complete new PCB (Main control unit). So whilst my brother is looking to cut his losses I am soldiering on, although based upon past experiences I have little confidence that my boiler will not let me down again in the near future. So, sorry but if you've any sense I would stay well clear of Viessmann and their boilers, particularly this model which is far too sophisticated for the average householder to get to grips with.

when i Moved to new house, was fitted with this boiler, with 2 year warranty remain. had lots of trouble, lossing prasure no hotwater, no heating, I called independent engineer, he fix extra small exapantion tank, changed pump, elbow pipe, flow valve water pressure sensor, and serviced. no problem using for last two winter.

Got this boiler in 2006 with 2 years warranty. Had major problems in 2011 with error code F2 and it was the computer faulty. Veissman said it would costs me 200 pounds to complete the repair: the computer only was 450 pounds on his own and too expenseve for local tech guy. In 2012 I had another problem F5 and called tech out twice to change valve switch faulty but got same problem again for 3rd time in 2 weeks. I am glad i got contract with british gas homecare 100 or i would be paying too much money in repairs and i am going to keep it until the end. I will not purchase another Viessman after this is gone and done. Carlo

We have had the PCB replaced three times in three months. It just keeps showing absolutely nothing . It will work for a short while and then exactly the same problem. My boiler engineer is at a complete loss. Any suggestions?

Have you had this sorted yet! if not what model boiler is it and is it wired correctly,I mean does the boiler have a permanent live and a switched live.
Written on: 08/10/2012
Makes sure the wiring is correct, i knew of a boiler that had the live and neutral the wrong way round for years, the boiler kept having problems an electrician had a look he could not find anything wrong Huh!!! I m just a little heating engineer BUT I FOUND IT problem fixed-solved.
Was the pump changed when your boiler was fitted, if it is an old pump it maybe surging to much power from the board causing strain on the board?? Board fails everybody blames the boiler.

Had a Veissman 100 put in earlier this year. It is nowhere effective as the 23 year old boiler it replaces. Hot Water not as hot and central heating never reaches required temperature. Bolier fires all day so the expected gas saving is questionable. Only plus side, Boiler is quiet. Installer has been back several times but ultimately blames issues on original pipework.
Great disappointment, plan is to persevere with it for the 5 five year warranty and then get rid.

As a busy Heating engineer, who works by recommendation, I find I must defend Veissman boilers and your installer:-
* 23yr old boilers waste 20% of your gas by the burning of the pilot alone.
* Viessman design their boilers to modulate down to run as low as around 8Kw, hence it may seem it is running a lot but it is actually just ticking over.
* Fitting modern boilers with old control systems, small pipework and old radiators could be likened to a cyclist riding a penny farthing in the tour de france.
* Update your system and see how well your boiler can perform
* If you decide to replace the boiler, I'll be happy to take it off your hands

This is my third year with this unit. Changed plumbers because I thought the first guy did not know what he was doing. My present plumber is a radiant heat specialist and knows my vitodens 100 very well. I have had an air induction flap replaced because it was sticking. I had a new control panel unit installed because the boiler kept faulting out. Now I am getting an F4 fault at least once a week. It now seems I have an ignition problem. I come home to a cold house and I wonder what would a person do if they went away on vacation and their house went cold and pipes froze. I am sick of having this unit repaired. I would never get another unit like this and I am waiting to see if veissman will do something for me.

This review refers to the old style boiler. The newer model is vastly improved & currently not experiencing any of the old issues. I think Viessmann should address the problems with the last model & at least give some kind of discount on their newwer boiler or replace faulty parts free of charge if they want to win over all the unhappy customers & bad PR it has produced.

You wouldn't want a Worcester ! More blocked heat cells & plate heat exchangers than they know what to do with. Ask any of there service engineers. To be fare as you have found out any boiler will block if connected incorrectly to a dirty heating system. Its not the boilers fault but the idiot installer !
