Does this 32-incher impress?

Verdict
Depending largely on 2008 tech, it's a toss-up between this set and its broadly similar Full HD forerunners, the £550 Panasonic TX-32LZD80 or £600 TX-32LZD85. But if your games console or Blu-ray player is itching for a playmate, the TX-L32S10B is a ...

The picture on the Toshiba 32WLT59 LCD TV is not as good as the Philips pixel plus CRT it replaced; but I didn't expect it to be. For a modestly priced LCD the picture is excellent. Sound is good too. But why is there no intelligent widescreen option in digital mode? With 4:3 broadcasts you get a square in the centre of the screen. I bought a Loewe Aconda 9381 and am delighted with it. It has a terrific picture which is very smooth, sharp and has great depth of colour. The sound is excellent and as an added bonus it looks great as well.

The only downside is the Digital Movie Mode (DMM) which is poor - but we just keep it switched off.

Highly recommended! I previuosly had a Philips 9617 but had major problems with it - pixel plus also poor and not all it's cracked up to be - eventually returned it...

Samsung are aware of this fault and promise an "over the air" fix which will be transmitted sometime this October. Until that has been completed, this set fails to carry out its basic function i.e. to show clear, stable pictures from its own Freeview tuner.
That is why I have rated its image quality as merely average.
I would stress, that in most other respects (sound aside) this is a superb set, but not one that I can recommend. I look forward to the "over the air" fix, when this...
