Sony goes ultra-thin and wireless with this LED-lit 40in LCD TV.

Sony Bravia KLV-40ZX1M
27 Feb 2009

Pros
Ultrathin panel creates a high-tech design ; hidden cords ; relatively accurate color ; numerous picture controls ; energy efficient

Cons
Extremely expensive ; subpar black-level performance and color saturation ; uneven screen uniformity ; scant connectivity with just one HDMI input

Verdict
As the first large-screen edge-lit LED-based LCD, Sony's KLV-40ZX1M looks stunning turned off, but it falls short when powered up.

Pros
Thin, great wireless system, decent speakers

Cons
Expensive, contrast could be better

Verdict
As a technological tour de force, we're extremely impressed with the Sony Bravia KDL40ZX1. It's ultra-thin, delivers good picture quality and the wireless video streaming is an innovation we're hoping will become commonplace.

Summary
Sony Bravia KLV-40ZX1

Pros
Beautiful design ; slim ; decent black levels ; detailed pictures

Cons
Smearing when using wireless ; off-axis and backlight clouding issues

Verdict
While Samsung and LG are pretenders to the throne, Sony has been king of the design hill for some time now. We'd have to think long and hard before we came up with something "ugly" that the company had produced. Failing that, we bring you the Sony ZX1

11 Jan 2009

Summary
The Sony Bravia KLV-40ZX1M is an ultra-thin flat-screen LCD HDTV priced at $3,999. If that sounds high relative to other 40" HDTV's, it is, but you get one of the thinnest displays on the market at 9.9mm, and it also boasts Sony's latest technology ...

Verdict
The KLV-40ZX1M is an incredibly stylish TV with some high-end specs that would be the flamboyant centerpiece of any home theater set-up. However, we're really disappointed by the lack of ports and the necessity of an accessory that could cost up to ...

Don't buy this make, since new we had to keep re installing freeview channels 3 times a week. We didn't know any better. Now 1 month outwith the year guarantee, it's not working and after telephoning Dm Tech guy's I was told the TV would have to be replaced and was promised a call back regarding a price! No phone call yet, basically I've paid a fortune for a TV to just look good on the wall!

I would stick to a CRT for picture quality.........but this is great for posing and it doesn't take up nearly as much room as a CRT as long as you can live with the picture.

I hate my TV! Got it for my birthday in April, it packed up around May and now I have no picture, only sound. Can anyone tell me what model has an ipod dock?

The DMTECH DML-3117WD LCD TV is a nice unit with a quality case, but on two occasions the units were returned; once because of 2 dead pixels, and the second time due to a DVD disk getting stuck inside the integrated player unit.

My fix, when this happened on my latest unit, was to power up again and carefully feed in a new disk halfway into the disk slot so that the machine then thinks that a new disk is inside. Then you can eject, from the remote handset, the original disk which is...

Toshiba 20WLT56

I bought my Toshiba last week from Empire Direct at Romford Warehouse.

The price was an impressive £388.

Got the set home - plugged it in and a red standby light appeared.

Switched on the TV - via the controls on the top of the set and the red light turned green.

But no picture.

Tried everything else - but to no avail.
Phoned Toshiba - and with the help of their technician went through everything - but all I got was...
