Aggressively priced for a large Bravia TV ; pictures look great most of the time ; good feature set for the money

Extremely affordable by Sony's usual wallet-hammering standards, the Bravia KDL-40V5500 is a good, feature-laden TV. The only problem is that, due to a noticeable backlight problem, pictures aren't as consistently good as we'd like

The remote control has to be exactly inline with the sensor on the television, or it will not work. With other appliances I can bounce the infra red off walls all around the room, but with this you need telescopic sight to aim correctly.
I took my television back to Comet and demonstrated the problem, but it was clear from the moment I walked into the store that I would not get any help or a refund/exchange. The staff at Comet were very unhelpful, and they quoted me the riot act about...

My Sony KDLS32A12U LCD TV was easy to install straight from the box. The instructions were straightforward, and it auto tuned and worked straight away.

It produces a bright picture, with the only downside being that large dark areas on the screen shimmer around the edges with another colour when the picture is in transition. Black is particularly bad for this, with green spots round the edges as the picture is changing.

Avoid this brand as reliabilty poor. First TV from Curry's had to reboot on several occasions to obtain freeview signal. After 2 weeks lost all stored channels, returned for refund. Bought second TV from Comet, red dot on screen & same loss of signal and memory happened and returned for full refund.

The Samsung LE40A656 is a great lcd tv. the black are black, and unlike other sets you can really fiddle with the menu's to create "your" custom setup. tons of connections.
