“Great setting and lovely dim sum!”

★★★★★

written by Emmapple on 17/02/2014

I really like the branch of this dim sum restaurants. I am by no means an expert in this cuisine but the food here has always been great, good service and drinks as well. I particularly love this restaurant for it's setting. They have lovely outdoor seating overlooking the docks, it's a great quiet place and it doesn't make you feel like you're in London even. I look forward to my next meal here when the sun is out. I think it's great value for money on Sundays, they have a 'all you can eat' menu and it's great for stuffing one self and trying almost everything on the menu without watching your pockets. It's a great feast and we normally end up eating more than we should, but when the food is so good and the sun is out all you can do is take it easy and enjoy it as much as you can and treat yourself. Grab the Sunday papers and a good friend, order a bottle of wine and have lunch here this summer, it's a great place! you can walk it off with a long stroll by the river as it's just under Tower Bridge!

Ping Pong is a great place for dim sum. They have a bunch of restaurants around London, not sure how many exactly, but the one I tend to go to most is the one in St Katherine's Dock near my home.

They have a great view over the marina if it's sunny and you want to sit outside. If not the inside is fine but avoid the place early on Sunday if you're not particularly child-friendly as the place is full of yummy mummies from trendy docklands who don't like to tell their kids to keep quiet!

The food is great. I particularly like the shu mai dumplings and also the pork puffs but it's all good. You get either three or four portions per plate depending on the dish so it's great for two but order more than one dish if you are more than three. About 5 plates for a table of two would do but I normally end up ordering 6 or 7 with a friend.

The have a great range of fruit ice teas. Cocktails are a little on the expensive side (£7-8) and weak generally but I suppose it's about average for London these days.

The only thing that is not so great is the staff. Like most places that are part of a chain the turnover of staff is quite high and don't they seem particularly knowledgeable about their dishes which is fine if you know the food but not a great help if you don't. The can also be slow - especially if it's busy.
