'A Child Called It' evokes a boy's life traspassing from his heaven on earth to his private hell - and his mother is the tourguide. Dave Pelzer writes his own life from the earliest recollection to his present situation with all his ups and downs - but mostly downs. This is because when he was still very young, he was abused, neglected, ashamed and tortured by the only person who is intended to love and care - his mother. The reader is guided from the previous lovable caring mother to the abusive toruring - maching called 'The mother' who is ripped away from her humane figure and transformed into this machine who only wanted to destroy the only source she had in her life who was constantly awaiting the lovable caring mother's return. This was never the case as he succeeded in going away from under her scrutinizing attantion and put in various foster homes up to the point until he was legally able to take care of him self. He followed and achieved his life long dream - until he understood that the only way to fulfill his life was to help other abused children. Pelzer succeeds in giving the reader the most horrible or pleasent details in his life that makes the reader appreciate their life - with all the ups and downs. Dave Pelzer is the embodiment of encouragment, never-letting go, unconditional love and a true survivor.

I give A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer a 10 because it is a great book but I would of loved to adopt David from his mom. She is the worst mother that I have ever read about. This book is the best book that I have ever read but it is way to sad. Before any children reads this book I prefer them to ask their parents before they do. This book is the saddest book that I have read, but it is still a great book.- Read Guest's review (88 words)

It was very difficult for me to put down this book, as I just could not imagine being forced to live in this way. I found it so touching and so sad, that I just had to read it non-stop. It was very well written and I would recommend this book to anyone. It is well worth the money, but make sure you have plenty of time ahead as you will not want to put this book down.- Read mossoppit's review (80 words)

This heart warming book is an horrendous true story. Dave was a young child when he was brutally abused by his unfit mother.
She is one of the most cruel people that I have ever come across in my life whether it be in a book or not. What shocked me the most about this book was the fact that she never treated her other two children this way.
Dave's story will warm your heart, because he was very brave from the off, he never seemed to want his mother to win, he fought for survival often having to ...- Read Shelliec's review (208 words and 1 comment)

It is truly awful and saddening to read about this man's childhood, but more than anything I hope that people can find inspiration in Dave Pelzer, A Child Called It.
No matter how we think we have had a bad childhood or been hard done by there is always someone worse off. Use the book to inspire and say to yourself I'm not done yet, I won't give up. If David can go through that and not be broken let us all keep our heads held high.- Read Missty's review (169 words and 1 comment)

Dave Pelzer, A child called It. I started to read it one Sunday morning and finished it 2 hours later after not being able to put it down. The cruelty that Dave Pelzer suffers at the hands of his mother is beyond belief. I have gone on to read all of Dave Pelzers books and believe that he is a truly amazing person, not only to survive what his mother did to him, but also to come out of it all a honest, careing respectable person.- Read AndreaG's review (109 words)

Dave Pelzer had a horrible life, but he decided to share it. I think it took amazing courage to share such drastic details, but it was worth the bravery. It reminded me so much of the ordeals that I went through, although not as drastic as these, but similar. Dave Pelzer is an amazing author, and I cannot wait to buy his new book.- Read built2bbroken's review (110 words and 1 comment)

A Child Called It is truly amazing, I am currently studying this for my GCSE Drama group as I am playing an abused child, and this is an amazing stimulus to work from. If you have not read this book, you need to get the bookshop, library or probably just go next door and get this book. everyone must read this book, and especially the rest of the trilogy.- Read mtbab's review (83 words)

I have never been so affected by any piece of writing as I have with Dave Pelzer's A Child Called It. I was sobbing through most of the book and I was made to feel physically sick at parts of the book. It is very upsetting yet heart warming at the same time. I feel so much for Dave, and he has done so well to come through this.- Read crimson1990's review (128 words)

Dave Pelzer, A Child Called It - My favourite part is the 1st chapter, The Rescue, especially the last paragraph but the best part of the whole book is the last sentence of the 1st chapter....

Dave Pelzer, A Child Called It - You may have all heard about this book, but what many are not in knowledge about is the fact you can now buy this book, ( A Child Called It) plus the other 2 works of this brilliant man who fought so hard to just fit in normally. He did come out of the horror of his childhood to do good in his life, but no doubt that the history of the horror that he had to bear may have left some damage. Brilliant work from a brilliant man. The other 2 I mentioned are called, ( ...- Read codie's review (254 words)

I was mortified to read Dave Pelzer's A Child Called It, again like a few others I've read I just couldn't put this one down. How on earth can someone endure such brutal and inhumane treatment and survive? This man is amazing I have total admiration for him to come and write about his experiences and have a child of his own. HE BROKE THE CHAIN, thank god he's not in no way like that evil thing that took such great pleasure in tormenting the poor sole. This book cuts very deep into your heart I a ...- Read purplesam1501's review (141 words)
