Innocent Veg Pots are pitched as exceptionally healthy microwaveable meals for one containing three of your five recommended portions of fruit and/or veg a day. They come in a variety of flavours. The one I am reviewing here is Tuscan Bean Stew.
For those who are unfamiliar with Innocent, they are the creators of the Innocent Fruit Smoothie. The Innocent group market their products as exceptionally healthy, containing only fruit or veg and free from additives, flavourings and preservatives.
This is an easy claim to make when you are making juices with nothing in them but pur ed fruit but harder to stick to when you branch out into ready meals. The Innocent team reckons this ready meal contains less than 3% fat and contains 60% of a person's RDA of fibre and contains three portions of veg.
This is the official list of ingredients from their website: Tomatoes (15%), farro, borlotti beans (9%), cannellini beans, tomato pur e, onion, butternut squash, carrot, potato, red onion, red pepper, water, fresh kale (2%), shiraz red wine, vegetable oil, coconut sugar, garlic, herbs, sea salt, cornflour, oregano (0.1%), black pepper.
But is it any good? Well it depends on what you're after. I like them because they take four minute to cook, you can eat them from their tub and they are relatively tasty. It's not the most amazing food you'll ever eat but it does feel healthy.
They are filling and you can go an afternoon without needing to snack but they are not cheap (nearly £4 in Waitrose) and if you get a juice as well that's nearly £6 on lunch.
The Tuscan bean stews is probably the heaviest of the pots to eat because of all those beans but in the winter that's probably a good thing. The only thing I didn't particularly like about it was how much kale you have to deal with but that's probably just a personal preference.
If you want a convenient lunch but also want to feel good about yourself this is probably the way to go!
