A cut above the average crime/mystery book but well below Rankin's high standards. Convoluted plot unrelieved by any characters one could care about. This is certainly a minority opinion, as most critics enthuse. But pick up any Rebus book, including the earliest, and note the decline in writing and story-telling. (read more)
