Please be warned do not book with Sykes cottages. After you have paid them they are not interested and hide behind the Ts and Cs. I booked a cottage in Wales to accomodate 4 - in reality the place was only big enough for two and you had to move the furniture to get 4 round a table. Only booked this place as it had a washing machine - but found this locked away and owner had the key. Also could not open some windows in the property as told these wre either broken or a safety issue if open!... (read more)

Before thinking of using Sykes cottages as agent to holiday let your property, read the small print. We contacted them filled in online requesting details, was then hoping for idea of prices and there terms & conditions. After reading the terms were hugely in favour of themselves not the owner so refused to go further. They also tell you what you have to rent it for & who too which we didnt agree. If they decide to rent your prop to a stag party then to refuse brings financial penalty. So... (read more)

Very disappointed with our experience at llanrwust. Not as advertised. To get wifi, you had to leave the property and go an stand outside the owner's cottage. No welcome pack. No heating working in entire house except one log burner together with no wood (had to ask). Owner then provided one bag of wood and kindling which lasted about 2 hours. Spent £30 on buying own wood as we were instructed no more wood. Lots of light bulbs out, not replaced. House not particularly well cleaned. Old... (read more)

I have just received a postal promotion from Sykes Cottages for some holiday cottages in Kent. Lovely county - but the cottage in Whitstable was not. Many faults, disrepair and danger points. But that was not the main complaint. Sykes Cottages were remote and disinterested in my complaints [I even offered to send them photographs] but to no avail. The catalogue shows four ticks by this cottage; it did then two years ago. I do hope that the owner has rectified the cottage since[we had... (read more)

I booked the Heythrop cottage near Alton Towers for a special occasion for my family. It was described in the brochure as being a luxury cottage with sumptuous furnishings, it seemed ideal. I then phoned customer service who reassured me it was of a very high standard, I went ahead and booked it a year before going. I arrived the day before my family...which was a good job I did! The cottage was dirty and shabby, there was thick dust under all beds and crumbs under seat cushions and in the... (read more)

(read more)

I have booked two holidays through Sykes and have been very impressed on both occassions. I have found the pictures and property descriptions to be very accurate and I would trust them in the future to provide good quality accomodation. I have had cause to speak to them on a couple of occassions and found that the level of customer service was very high and they cant seem... (read more)

I have booked with Sykes Cottages on three occasions to stay in different locations. Overall we were pleased with the house and its amenities. We booked the house as we were allowed to take our two small dogs. Beautiful situation/location close to beach - ideal for dog walking. The living room was very well furnished with a good sized dinner table, comfortable sofas and a large TV which, having stayed in November, was appreciated. The kitchen was also very well equipped, although we did buy some wine glasses as there was only one glass in the cupboard. We left these in... (read more)

We went in November but were lucky enough to have a sunny weekend and spend some time in the garden and upstairs veranda. This is a very well equiped upside down cottage with everything we needed. We had a wonderful views across the bay in an area of the island I had never been to before. Church Bay is secluded and stunning. We chose this cottage as we were able to take our dog with no extra charge. I object to paying for the dog and this would have been a deal breaker. Would highly... (read more)

Really well furnished and a truly relaxing cottage to stay in. Couldn't fault the cottage and the village shop sells the basics with an excellent lemon drizzle cake on offer. The apartment we stayed in was everything we required and more. There was a warm welcome on our arrival and help just a phone call away if required. The location was ideal for our requirements with, shops, pubs, restaurants bus-stops and train station close by as well as being close to the main road link should we want to travel further afield. A lovely cottage ideally situated in Long Melford for visiting Suffolk and Constable Country. The cottage is fully equipped and perfect for two couples or a family of four and we were made very welcome by the owners who were there to greet us when we arrived. This cottage is one of the best we have ever stayed in (we usually stay in two a year). It is superbly well fitted out and the cleanliness is at the "you could eat your dinner off it" level - very good. The location is fantastic provided you want to be in the middle of nowhere (which we do) and are happy driving along an unmade up track for a mile. I rent cottages often and although Sykes' website is the best looking professionally, it is the worst by far to navigate. Like many other people, I need specific things at my rental, like pet friendly, garden, washer, wifi. The search options are almost none existent, making it necessary to contact customer services. "...if you find an item on a shelf in a shop labelled at a lower price than shown on the shelf itself, then, under Trading Standards the store has to honour the label price."
Not true. Stores are under no legal obligation to sell you a product at the display price if the item was been priced up unintentionally incorrect.
