    We booked a cottage through Sykes cottages in Wales and found the property owners lived in the basement - they could hear everything we were doing. This was not explained in the brochure and when we queried it before arriving - problems with arranging key collection made us suspicious - we were told not to be so silly and of course the owners didn't live at the property.
    In addition to this the property was not up to scratch - not clean (the worst being blood found under toilet seat), antiquated heating system, inadequate smoke alarms, strange things happening with electrics etc.
    To top it all we also found fleas throughout the property that left us with numerous bites to our legs - the property was advertised as pet free but the owners used the property during the winter and had a dog!
    When all this was put to Sykes cottages they were not very helpful at all - were apparently not aware the owner lived there and the property had been inspected and apparently met standards.

    Poor customer service, ridiculously high charges - £30 booking fee PER WEEK of your stay, not per booking and Cottage Rental Agency charge an £8.00 credit card payment charge too. No after sales service, no email communication. Not recommended.
