“The job is only as good as the fitter.”

Triple glazing units work well but mahogany surrounds and sills were a mess. Plywood used instead of solid timber for Ingos, (Seen better on old tea chests). Various marks on the veneer that cannot be hidden. Nailgun used for fixing so that finish looks like woodworm! Sills supplied were not deep enough on two windows so a 2" piece of timber was added to cover over the gap! Original sills were made from stair treads and were perfect. What was fitted was very shoddy. Accuracy of workmanship was poor with timber being cut leaving a gap the thickness of a saw blade. When someone came out to see what we were complaining about, we were asked what we wanted done about it. We said we wanted the timber replaced and done to a better standard and have heard nothing since.

“After Care Shocking!!”

Having recently bought our house we looked at getting the 9 windows and both front and back door replaced. Having contacted Advance (East Kilbride), the salesman attended our property and gave a quote which we were very happy with. The salesman was knowledgable, pleasant not pushy or invasive, explained that we would attend the showroom the following weekend to have a proper look at the product. True to our word we did and agreed our contract and installation date. On installation (2-3 April 2013) the workmen were friendly, accomodating and very tidy, over the two days the work was completed to a high standard. There were a couple of small snagging issues chipped sill, scratched window frame and pane, which were quickly rectified and replaced the following day. The problems then began. . . an issue arose regarding the standard of the internal finishing which we were left with, we waited over a week for an insepector to attend the property (12th April) and the company agreed to carry out the remedial work. The following week the remedial work was carried out (16th April -plastering), I had contacted the installation department asking if we would need to cover the windows and sills to allow the work to be completed; informed "no - our guys do this as part of their job". Both my partner and I were at work that day and had allowed the workmen access through a family member, on returning back home we were angered, shocked and dismayed to find the sills and windows hadn't been covered! Thankfully the windows were fine but the sills were scratched, dented and plaster stuck to them. There was plaster on the carpet and some areas of the walls that weren't required to be plaster and on the radiators! To make matters worse the workmen had decided to fill our general waste bin full of their commercial water (3 bags and a wheelbarrow full later we managed to empty it ). On contacting Advance the following morning (installation department) I explained the situation we were in, the lady apologised and wasn't impressed with what the workmen had done and without questioning or inspecting the mess booked joiners in to replace all the sills and contacted the workment to collected their commercial waste. Second installation of the sills (again family member allowed workmen access to the property), a disasterous attempts that you wouldn't even call workmenship!! The sills weren scratched, chipped, dented, nor level and a far less superior quality than had been initially fitted. The end-caps were barely attached, rough edging and the silicon finish was of a very poor standard; plus they didn't even bother to replace all the sills that were required!! On calling back Advance the following morning (you'll see a re-occur theme here - you call them, they don't call you!) the lady I had been dealing with was no longer available to speak to me (even though I was informed she'd call me back - that never happened), a gentleman took over my complaint, after explaing the on-going saga, I have never been so insulted by a customer service rep who spoke to me as though I was an idiot and tried to explain to me that having windows replaced is messy! He informed me that I would need to wait until they could send out another inspector before any further work would be done. I asked him to explain the companies Quality Assurance process and was told " it happens once your works/file is complete", having exhausted all avenues myself it was apparant that the department weren't going to listen to me and I obviously was having no affect. My partner then had to contact them - the lady somehow became available to deal with the issue. Another apology later, third work schedule booked in and a days holiday for my partner to attend and check the standard as being fitted (instructed by Advance that this was necessary - surely paying thousands for a service, you wouldn't need to babysit to check the quality of work/product?). Furthermore, the commercial waste was still sitting at the side of our property! Third installation of the sills, the workman was efficient, friendly, tidy and work was done to a very high standard. VERY WORRYING the workman explained that he had already had a heated discuss with a manger in the company who had instructed him to fit the same sub-standard sills as previously (his words not ours) and he had refused to do so. He further explained that this was an ongoing problem for several workmen and continually customers were calling and complaining about the poor sills. We are still waiting for the Quality Assurance manager to visit or even get in touch, our works have been completed for over a week. Take our advice - the quality of the products is excellent! The customer service is shocking and ineffective, throughout the entire process no-one from the company had or has contacted us, we have constantly chased the company. There is obvioulsy a lack of consistency in standards of workmenship with little to no effect of a complaints procedure or accountability. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

I'm currently in a dispute with advanced. [Name removed] the Senior Customer Services Manager has now left. I've been chasing for answers to my complaint and am currently taking them to The Office of Fair Trading. I have been told that advanced have shut down their factory operation and are supplying windows via a third party.

Aftercare, what is that? Most disgusting after sales communication. 7yrs now I have had problems with my windows and at every opportunity, they put the phone down on me, do not return calls etc etc,. DISGUSTING! Time now for putting story into national newspaper, as I have 7yrs worth of evidence at hand!

“Triple Glazing”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 20/12/2012

I had advanced group (East Kilbride) install triple glazed windows in my house in June 2012. I have twice had to have advanced group return and replace the outside sealant on my windows. After only three months from installation (Sept) I started to get a whistling sound from one of my windows. After calling advanced they advised I would have to wait two weeks for someone to come out and repair it. When the guy called he said the sealant needed replaced and sure enough it solved the problem. Only a month after that (Oct) I needed them to call out again as one of the other windows was doing the same thing. I had the guy check the sealant on all the windows and he said that another two windows needed the sealant replaced so he resealed all the windows. We are now in December and low and behold, the window I originally was having trouble with has startled to whistle which means the sealant needs replaced - yet again! Also when my windows were originally installed one of the windows had a chip out of it. A replacement unit was ordered and two weeks later arrived. Unfortunately the replacement unit was badly scratched so another window was ordered. Again after a two week wait a third unit arrived but could not be fitted as they only sent one guy so I had to wait yet another fortnight for them to come back and finally fit the new unit. Their customer service is a disgrace and I would not recommend this company to anyone, in fact I would avoid them at all cost.

Totally agree with all your comments and same has happened to me for 7yrs. Communication is appalling, phone being put down on me, broken promises. GUARANTEE is nil and void. They advertise in The Sun Newspaper.....hmm, time for a report to be placed in this national paper and allow every unsuspecting customer to be aware of the poor workmanship and incompetency of workforce starting from the Management down!

We have ended up with dry rot after the patio doors they have put in 5y ago have leaked. They squirted some sealant in after the problem started 2y ago, but this has just degraded, We now have an expensive bill to sort the rot out, and they don't appear to be very interested in trying to sort the problem. I keep getting told someone will phone me back. Hmm.

Decided to go with Advanced, salesman fine better than other companies, surveyor good and helpful, job was installed fine a few niggles but guys happy to fix anything i wasn't happy with. Then the problem starts, noticed that the back door wasn't holding draughts, then when it was really windy room was freezing.Phoned advanced had to wait 3 weeks for technician, guy came out power drill and allen keys and fixed,1 month later same problem door or door frame are of poor quality, had to wait a month this time in February for a technician, guy came out and done the same as the previous technician,i signed the form stating i was happy but put a disclaimer saying i had no confidence the fix would last.3 weeks after last technician same problem,Customer service want to send another guy out with power drill and allen keys but i want frame checked or a new door.Never phone you back very frustrating. The windows are good and have made a difference but the doors are of poor quality,i would get the windows in my experience but don't touch the doors unless you enjoy draughts

Does anyone else have problems with noise? I have triple glazing and have been told that the trickle vents are the cause of the noise. At times I can hear my neighbours talking even with the vents closed.
