“The Binatone S1545 internet/skype/landline phone is a...”

★★★★☆

written by AdaMax on 14/08/2009

The Binatone S1545 internet/skype/landline phone is a great starter kit for anyone just starting out with skype and wants a solution to using the service without being sat at the computer all the time waiting to take calls.

Good points:

The phone is sleek and looks great, it can be used as a Skype phone, land line phone or both at the same time.

the base unit just plugs into a computer USB port and the handset just sits on it until it needs to be picked up and used.

The handset uses re-chargeable batteries and the phones base charges the batteries when the phone isn't in use.

the software is easy to install and takes the good part of 30 seconds to set up.

The sound quality is good, however it goes a little fuzzy sometimes.. especially when used as a land line phone as a pose to internet phone.

Bad points:

The sound can be fuzzy if it is used as a land line phone, however this is fairly uncommon and is a general fault with most internet and land line phones.

once installed you need to fiddle with the computers sound settings a little, and make sure that the USB Phone isn't set as default sound device, if the phone is set as default sound the computer will try play all the audio through the phone, which will give you no sound at all.

Another point is that once the phone is installed and you are using skype, if you are wanting to make Skype-Out calls you need to know what number you are wanting to call instead of the name the number is saved as.
For example-
If you are using your normal Skype service you might have a phone number saved as "x" and not have to think about the phone number itself, however on the Binatone internet phone the LCD display screen will only show you the numbers in the contact list as a pose to the name.
Unless you have regular Skype contacts on your account in which cash it will show the names.

The handset can be used for dialling out on landline calls, but for Skype-out calls you have to have the number saved onto your skype account as a pose to being able to dial the numbers in.

In general:

This phone is great for the first time user that just wants to start using the service and wants to make the expirience a little easier and less time consuming, it might also come in handy for small business's, for anything else a more technical and higher priced phone is better for the job.

In the end you get just what you pay for.

I hope this review helps.
