“Shameful”

Written on: 25/07/2014 by JuniorGraham19 (1 review written)

This company charged £500 to tell me a pond was a risk to children and was the biggest issue on their report. They missed asbestos in two places, a dangerous consumer unit (smashed cover, taped up), loose plaster on all downstairs walls (the builder tapped it, it sounded hollow), two roof leaks. Negligent, expensive, untrustworthy… Read Full Review

“Wouldn't give me my valuation ”

Written on: 02/07/2014 by Tyrone171 (1 review written)

After instructing them and paying them to staircase on my shared ownership flat they refused to give me the valuation results. They said they sent the valuation out to the housing association who were as confused as I was as to why this was the case, and to add to that the housing association didn't even receive it. Country wife staff lack empathy and don't really care, phone call dropped out after being put on hold, unhelpful staff who didn't keep to deadlines. Avoid this company if you need… Read Full Review

“Incapable of making an appointment time”

Written on: 28/06/2014 by daLoomis362 (1 review written)

In short, they are just not able to turn up on time. The initial appointment was cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, I had taken a day off to be there. The second appointment was a promise that they would arrive before 8am so that I would have time to get to work, as you will no doubt have guessed from countrywide's generally terrible reviews, they didn't. In short, if you end up with these surveyors you better book a week off just to be sure you will see them. Hopeless, but it won't… Read Full Review

“Do not let your property be surveyed by this company”

Written on: 09/06/2014 by KathrynHatch75 (1 review written)

I am currently selling a property in the Bristol area and my purchasers building society use Countrywide for their surveyors. The surveyor who did the report on my property clearly was inadequate. They picked up several things that they were concerned about and recommended a structural engineer to my purchasers, when the report came back that the issues they felt were a problem were not they then said they wanted him to go back twice incurring extra cost to either myself or my purchasers for a… Read Full Review

“WARNING!! Expensive!! AVOID!!”

Written on: 27/05/2014

As we are FTB's we used a Bridgfords mortgage broker for advice and to find our best mortgage deal. In the end we used santander (as they offerd no arrangment fee, free survey and £250 cashback) and countrywide solicitors. To begin with things were fine and our mortgage broker was helpful, we made an offer on the house we wanted and it got accepted and everything was going through fine, after talking to friends and reading reveiws we were warned not to use countrywide as they were incredibly… Read Full Review

“Appears to have valued house using nothing more than...”

Written on: 22/05/2014 by Larab475 (1 review written)

I was applying for a re-mortgage and Nationwide appointed Countrywide as the surveyor. They have then appeared to broker that business out to another surveyor based in Bridgwater approx. 50 miles away from my location. The surveyor spent a grand total of 15 minutes in the house and then undervalued it by 20k! The only conclusion we can come to is that the valuation is not based on our local market or any fact but coincidently the average of Zoopla valuations for over 6 months ago. Prior… Read Full Review

“Wrong survey carried out”

Written on: 20/05/2014 by Morenozq78 (1 review written)

Countrywide surveyors carried out the wrong survey last week (valuation instead of a home buyers). I have had no apology and no sign of the home buyers survey as yet. I was told yesterday that someone would e-mail me and still not a word from them. When I phone, some of the staff seem reluctant to speak to me as I booked this survey through Yorkshire Building Society. Some of the people I've spoken to have given me what has proven to be false information and their mannor was bordering on… Read Full Review

“Leave Well Alone”

Written on: 20/05/2014 by Oglecx159 (1 review written)

We have just come through nearly 7 months of hell with the selling of our house through Country Wide recommended by our Estate Agents. Things started to go wrong from the off. All the documents went missing in the post, so a second set was sent and we due completed and returned and guess what they went missing in their office in Cardiff. Buyers solicitor was going over the top with questions and if I did not do the ground work and the running around the sale would not have progressed… Read Full Review

“PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING THEM”

Written on: 20/05/2014 by PhoenixFranklin (1 review written)

I had an offer accepted on a house in January 2014....it's now May 20th....my solicitor gets no response from these clowns and so called 'surveyors' and they have no professionalism or eagerness to hurry the process. The vendors I am buying from are also ready to move and made the terrible decision of using Country Wide and their moronic staff. Still awaiting a moving date and would have been better if the vendors had gone to the local zoo and had the baboons do the job....useless… Read Full Review

I am pretty much in the same boat , my buyer is using countrywide . Was due to exchange contracts last week then at last minute they had further enquiries and resent my solicitor enquiries they sent and we answered in March . No one can get hold of them since .

I've learned the hard way - don't use this company and if I ever sell / buy a house in the future will vet which conveyancing company they are using and will reject those using countrywide

“Awful”

Written on: 19/05/2014 by rcRoss86 (1 review written)

Mortgage with Nationwide, valuation booked through countrywide for the house we intended to buy. Got the report back stating that it was £10,000 less than what we were paying so had to find the extra £10,000. Rang nationwide who told me that it was due to there being a cellar at the front of the property and it was on a hill so it may move. Went back to the estate agents who told me that the surveyor was only in the property 5 mins. I chased this up with countrywide as this was hardly enough… Read Full Review

“Cannot fault them”

Written on: 17/05/2014 by axHollis1990 (1 review written)

We were in a real hurry to get house valued, exchange and complete. FirstDirect (HSBC) instructed Countrywide surveyors. As we were in a hurry I called next day. They arranged a valuation within 24 hours. 48 hours later - valuation with FirstDirect. Professional, courteous and very efficient. … Read Full Review

“Not fit for purpose”

Written on: 29/04/2014 by Dwyer3 (1 review written)

We are buying a grade 2 listed farmhouse built in 1560 with 5 acres of land. It has a swimming pool, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 4 toilets and is about 480 Square metres so it is not your normal 4 bedrromed house. We agreed a price of £860,000 wanting to put down £300,000 cash for deposit and legal expenses and obtaining a buy to let mortgage of £600,000. Country wide were asked to perform a valuation just to get the mortgage in place. They valued it at £860,000 which was OK. But as it is… Read Full Review

Any surveying firm should have a team who deal with valuation challenges, you will have to submit all your own evidence to your mortgage provider and they will in turn raise a formal query with the surveying firm asking for definitive answers and reasons to their valuation/rental figure, and also ask them to review the figures provided using the new evidence you've submitted. It seems unusual that your lender hasn't mentioned this process to you as every firm of surveyors, especially one as big as Countrywide, will have a team to review their "mistake".

I had a similar issue, with a valuation 20% lower than what market indicators point out to. I did send 5 pieces of independent evidence all pointing to a valuation 15% to 30% higher. They rejected each evidence one by one saying they were each not hard evidence, or not directly comparable. However they refuse to share their own evidence, which I am sure it because there is no such thing as a hard perfectly comparable evidence. They just concluded that they wouldn't change, I guess it would mean admitting they got it wrong in the first place.
Very intransparent and frustrating.

“Decent service overall”

Written on: 16/04/2014

Just to offer some hope to people like me (remortgaging with Co-op) who had little choice but to use Countrywide, my valuation and Homebuyers were completed without issue. The report was understandable and, aside from the usual and numerous caveats, addressed the areas that I wanted (the surveyor left a message at 8.30 the prior evening inviting me to get in touch with any areas of concern - in my case an extension). Mortgage valuation was given as the agreed purchase price. Haven't given… Read Full Review

“My positive experience of Countrywide Surveyors”

Written on: 30/03/2014 by Phantomlad (1 review written)

I am currently going through the process of re-mortgaging with HSBC, with an additional loan for borrowing to do a loft conversion. I was contacted by Countrywide within 24 hours of submitting my online application and the survey was booked in within 48 hours. The staff on the phone were polite and professional. The assessor attended on time and was well informed about the area and was asking various questions about the property. He completed his inspection within 30 minutes and said we… Read Full Review

“Figures no Facts”

Written on: 19/03/2014 by Jaylync90 (1 review written)

We have applied for our mortgage through Nationwide who use Countrywide to carry out the valuation. We had been informed by the vendor that Countrywide had quite a lot of bad reviews and I actually looked at this site to gauge these. We voiced our concerns with our Mortgage consultant and provided the link to this site but it seems they were not considered. So the valuation went ahead last Friday and we recieved the report (if you can call it that) this morning. They have valued the property… Read Full Review

“Total Farce”

Written on: 13/03/2014

Countrywide performed a 'Homebuyers' survey on the property that we currently have for sale, highlighting a few issues: 1. They reported that the property has no smoke detectors, despite them being installed and clearly visible in several places in the house. 2. Apparently the timber frame behind some facia boards is rotting. Interesting point, as the facia boards weren't removed or even touched by the surveyor, and the boards are mounted to brickwork, not a timber frame. 3. The… Read Full Review

“Please can someone help me”

Written on: 11/03/2014 by tommyd45 (1 review written)

Hello. I was wondering if someone could help me. I had a Building Survey undertaken in December 2012 by Countrywide Surveyors and since purchasing the property have come across numerous items about the house that I am not happy with. I have written to Countrywide who says that these items were not inspected as agreed in the original Conditions of Engagement which I signed at the time of undertaking the survey. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of these and they will not provide me with a copy… Read Full Review

Carandame's Response to tommyd45's Review

A friend of mine recently had a full building survey carried out and every nook and cranny was investigated. The only areas where a surveyor can't inspect is where it is unsafe to do so, i.e an attic or cellar that is crammed with stored goods. I know a surveyor is not allowed to remove carpets or move furniture too as this is what they call "destructive" so it depends on what issues you've had with your survey report. I understand that a report is guaranteed for 6 years though so you should definitely seek some kind of legal advice for compensation as I'd guess Countrywide do have a team who deal with claims and they will try to brush you off initially, you just have to keep at them..

“Absolute non-sensical joke !”

Written on: 06/03/2014 by carolinestam (1 review written)

I am selling a house in Eccles, Manchester area and a survey was completed yesterday by these jokers ! I was informed that this would take 3 hours and he was not there for more than 40 mins. Exactly 12 months ago a survey valuation came back as 136k with only a minor defect then the sale fell through due to purchasers messing about. Today I am told the valuation is 125k - some 12k less than 12 months ago and it is in exactly the same state. Apparently the loft conversion and the extension are… Read Full Review

Contact the RICS - Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors with your issues and they do have a formal process where you can raise a complaint about a surveying firm. The RICS sets guidelines for all chartered surveying firms

“Poorly laid out report & overpriced”

Written on: 26/02/2014

We commissioned Countrywide to do a buildings survey and valuation. This cost £1200. Service was slow. the report took over a week to be returned and was written in such a way that it was hard to pick out the areas of concern and what was merely them covering their backs. Even after a few phonecalls with the person that carried the survey out I was no clearer as to how serious the defects were as he didn't want to cmmit himself to anything. In the end I had to call another surveyor from… Read Full Review

“Waste of Time (and Money)”

Written on: 21/02/2014

My original survey request was lost, even though I had paid for it before Christmas. I could never contact the same person, telephone numbers always seemed to be changing. I was told that the survey was done 2 weeks ago, still not received. As a mortgage is not involved,I had been told that it would just be a short survey to make sure there was nothing obviously wrong with the house - now I have been told that it is merely a valuation and any faults will not be disclosed to me! I knew the… Read Full Review
