This is the most misnamed product I have ever tried to use. It is not mss free and it does not strip piant. In fact when it has been put on and left as specified it is almost impossible to remove. I eventually managed it with use of a paint scraper and a steam cleaner but still majority of the original paint remained. Please, please do not waste your money on this product. (read more)

I wish I had read these reviews before spending £12 on this product. I used it to strip a radiator and applied it exactly as the instructions said but my radiator finished up in a worse state than when I started! No paint came off at all and it was rock hard, so I went out and bought my old favourite Nitromours which has always worked for me in the past and after applying this I managed to get the Polycell stuff off along with the other paint I originally wanted to take off. All these... (read more)

Complete waste of time and money. 'Just brush off with stiff brush'. What a joke! You are left with more mess and plenty of paint to remove either by sanding or hot gun. Avoid at all costs. (read more)

applied product as per instructions onto my radiator left it overnight to give it a good chance to work When I went to brush it off it would not budge and had to resort to a paint scraper and sandpaper despite this Ihave been left with a radiator which needs replacing as we could never get a proper surface to paint This product is total rubbish and would definitely never use it again or recomend it. Bought this in preference to other paint removing product as we thought it would be less mess, odour and effort. How wrong we were. What a complete waste of money (the product isn't a cheap alternative) effort (requires more effort to remove the product than if I'd persevered with a piece of sandpaper) and as for the odour, as it takes so long to apply this product you are inhaling far more fumes. Will Polycell refund the money on this product? What about the hours spent removing it, are... (read more)

The worst DIY product I have ever bought. It does not work and left me with wood covered in white patches where the product has not come off. Thanks to this stripper I have wasted a lot of time and produced a lot of mess. (read more)

I brought two tubs of this product to remove paint off my front door. It did not result in any bubbling up of the paint as described on the instructions - it just dried into a white skin which could not be scrapped off even with another paint stripper! It caused me spending many hours handscrapping the product off resulting in a ton of white dust! No mess? this is a joke. And whats more no paint was removed off my door. (read more)

This product ought to be banned from sale! The biggest joke is it's name "LESS MESS PAINT STRIPPER" I used the product on decking to remove some small spots of paint and left it overnight for maximum effect. The product was really thick and after several failed attempts with a wire brush and scraper had to resort to using a high pressure washer. Not only did it not work (only one coat of paint!) but it created a huge mess on ballustrades, windows, walls, plants, it even glued itself to... (read more)

At nearly £12.00 for a small tub, I bought two to remove paint from an easy to reach and strip stairway cladding. Applied it - left it on all night. After hours of trying to strip the paint (only a couple of layers)- gave up and went and bought a heat gun. Like others - I wish I had reviewed the product first. Absolute and total waste of money! used this product yesterday after seeing it 's amazing claims on the packaging. My goodness it has caused so much mess and extra work. I cannot remove all of the thick White paste and it has not removed the paint as promised. In fact I have more work to do now than when I started. I have packaged the pot with receipt and letter of complaint and sent it back to ICI (address on the pot). I am also going to report this to Trading Standards, I suggest others who have been unfortunate enough to... (read more)

Absolute rubbish - actually it's worse than rubbish. I applied the advanced paste to remove varnish from my six rather nice dinning chairs and they are now covered with a thick white polycell product which is proving very difficult to remove. I really wish I had read these other reviews before buy this rubbish. Is anyone from Polycell reading these reviews??? If you are would you please post some advice for those of us who are trying to get our "treated" wood back to the state it was in... (read more)

Wish I had read this review site before wasting £10 of my hard earned cash. This product does not work 'pure and simple' and as for the less mess I don't think it could have left more mess.
I am normally too lazy to post critisim of products but in this case after a wasted afternoon I feel I am left with no choice.

Absolute rubbish, should be done under trades descriptions act.
Takes ages to apply as it is very very thick. Pot dries out during application becomes even harder to apply!
You get very little coverage - 1 small pot did about 2 square metres, they very conveniently dont write on the packaging the coverage!!
I used it on a wooden worksurface to remove a thin layer of varnish that was peeling in places.
Left it overnight to dry to a crust. It does not flake off easily as stated! Found it...

Dreadful product. Used it for a relatively simple stripping job and found it performed nowhere near to what it promised. It formed a hard crust over the wood, which then took ages to strip off, creating loads of mess. At the end of it all the paint was still on the wood and I had to resort to heat gun, wire wool and sandpaper. A complete waste of time and money. DO NOT BUY THIS RUBBISH! (read more)

Absolute rubbish. DO NOT BUY!!!
We applied according to instructions. The stripper formed a hard crust and then had to be scraped off- a huge amount of work and lots of mess. At the end of which had it taken off the 16 coats of paint it claims to be able to? No- it took off one coat and was less effective than a heat gun and sander. Polycell should be done under the Trade Descriptions Act. An easy job too three times as long and cost us a lot more money that it should've.

I have just used the polycell less mess for my hall stairs and landing. I bought 2 tubs and thought I'll just use a bit of one pot to test it. I applied this product in various thicknesses then scraped sections of these various thickness stripper to see what is best to do. Totally useless.
I sanded down and left on overnight as recommended. As I tried to remove it I was covered in clouds of white dust so had to go and put on a face mask and goggles. In the end hardly any paint had come off and I had to spend ages clearing up the mess. Hours of my time wasted for a porduct which does not do as it says on the tin. Safety instructions inadequate - it says you only need a mask if dry sanding.

tired of using a heat gun to strip paint from wood, i thought of trying alternative means, i was a bit dubious about using the polycell less mess product after reading the less than flattering reviews.
so i tried two production, ppolycell less mess and a gel based one by another manufacturer.
the gel based product was a bit of a nightmare, and to be honest was rubbish, but the polycell less mess product was fantastic, to be honest i left the test patch on for maybe 4 hours, and the paint...

I am awarding this dreadful product zero out of five (the site made me put a star on) on the grounds that it simply does not work. Words fail me, pretty much every promise on the packaging is untrue and it generates a huge amount of mess just getting your wood back to square 1.
Dreadful product, if there is any justice it will be withdrawn from the market, or Polycell will get caught by Trading Standards. Either would be a satisfactory result.

Awful. Followed your instructions carefully and was excited to use this product but it turned out more diaster.
It formed very hard - difficult to remove - no crusts there. Will have to sand it down or use wire brush.
This product is not worth buying.

After trying numerous other products I purchased this item expecting good results and 'less mess'.I followed the instructions as per the tub only to find that the paintwork it had worked its apparent magic on had to be scraped of leaving a total mess to be cleaned up.The majority of paint remained as if untouched apart from some slight blistering.A complete waste of money and a lost customer for Polycell products in future. this Polycell Less Mess Paint Stripper caused more mess than it was worth. it did not come off easily with brushing as advertised and ended up causing more work as it needed sanding and scraping and eventually the use of a different stipper to remove paint and polycell stripper. Also proved expensive. Would never use again. (read more)

We followed the instructions carefully and it was a disaster! the paint remover would not come off[says it will brush off with stiff brush] it would have been quicker to have sanded the paint off, it took all day to remove stripper from table legs and there is still some lurking in difficult places! will not be buying polycell less mess paint stripper again!
