“I got a 5230 as an upgrade after my 3 year old 6280...”

I got a 5230 as an upgrade after my 3 year old 6280 was stolen. I like a phone to be just that, a phone and found this touchscreen gadget too much so I 'downgraded' to the 6303. It is a great little phone, very robust, has plenty of features that I might use, unlike these smart phones that are tricky to use and need charging twice a day. 3.2MP camera with flash, net, mp3 plus it is as easy to use as any Nokia phone I have owned over the last 10 years. Please may Nokia keep making useable phones!

“I wanted a phone tough enough to survive a busy life...”

★★★★☆

written by AngryShopper on 04/02/2010

I wanted a phone tough enough to survive a busy life style, provide me with a good level of features and work well as a phone rather than a glorified games console or a fashion accessory. The 6303 does meet nearly all of my requirements.

The outer shell is a thin stainless steel construct. I like that, it feels good in the hand. Just two downsides. It is comparatively heavy and in the cold it may freeze your ear off during a long call. I heartily recommend a case to offset the chilling affect of cold steel.

The screen display is clear, more so than my old Sony Ericsson K750i. The menus are easy to navigate. The keys function well and I don't suffer "missed key" syndrome that I've experienced with other Nokia phones. The camera is okay, but then I don't expect much from a mobile phone camera. The camera is no better or worse than previous phones I've used. The built in voice recorder is excellent, I use it to record lectures and the results are very good. The built in radio and MP3 player are also excellent. I do like the 3.5mm jack built into the phone. Makes listening to music a lot easier.

The only two major downsides to this phone are the battery and the lack of support for NON MS and Lotus calendar applications. The battery is adequate but has a nasty habit of dying rapidly after a busy day of phone calls and MP3 play. The battery display drops from what would appear to be 50% to near 0% with little warning. The calendar issue was very annoying. The phone comes with Nokia PC Suite that only synchronises calendars from MS Outlook and Lotus Notes. NOT Mozilla Sunbird or Lightning. I tried a number of third party solutions to this but ended going back to using MS Outlook to manage my calendar. Nokia are really not doing themselves any favours with this lack of support for what are very popular calendar applications

Overall I like this phone. It works well as a phone and the additional functions fit in with my requirements. It is not phone with which to impress people or entertain bored children. A stolid, reliable workhorse of a device.
