The bowflex extreme is a multi-purpose gym for a total body workout boosting a total of 46+ different exercises (when including the additional leg curl attachment) it by far out does most home gyms for choice of exercises. taking up less floor space than most by sitting you upright while doing most exercises instead of what you might be used to, say, in a gym, for example bench presses are done in a sitting upright position, which at first seems rather awkward but you soon get used to it and realise that if correct posture is kept there is no difference. Another great fact is the amount of weight that you can use on this multi-gym because instead of using actual weights the gym works it's resistance by way of bending big elastic rods, the Standard machine comes with 2X50LB rods 2X30LB rods 4X10LB rods and 2X5LB rods giving a total of 210LBs of weight, in addition to this a further 200LBs can be added in the way of 4X50LB rods giving 410LBs in total which is quite impressive for a home gym and gives an added "life span" to the amount exercises you can do, although people who lift more in the gym will obliviously want more which may be of a let down but for most people it won't matter.
Getting used to the spring in the rods can be hard to get used to as well but it teaches you good technique. You'll also benefit from a progressive weight feel because a 50LB rod will not total 50LB in weight until the last part of the repetition. A computer program and DVD's are also available giving even more options with the PC program giving examples of workouts and sets for a multitude of sports among lots of other extras including a fitness monitor. The DVD's give examples of exercises in real time making it easier for people new to working out to get the positive and negative timing right on there repetition as well as reminding them how the exercises are performed. Although quite expensive for a home gym I got mine brand new £999 including the leg curl and the extra 200LB in weight but it does come in 8 boxes and postage within the UK is around £100 for that kind of money I would advise people try before you buy and be aware that many shops do offer a no quibble money back but you'll have to pay the £100 postage back so It's worth checking if you'll have to pay that if its not for you. If you're committed to exercise and know what you want this could be for you, the expense will be over looked when you realise you don't have to pay for the gym every year.
