    VAYO
    TANGO
    CD REVIEW

The singer and songwriter simply known as VAYO is the voice of tango today. His new album, which has the concise title TANGO, is some of the best tango music currently being released. Vayo is one of the top practitioners in the field.

Some Americans seem to think that tango music is mostly instrumental because so often an instrumental piece is used in movies when the stars dance a tango in front of an appreciative crowd. But that is just the movies. In reality, tango music (which originated in Argentina and Uruguay) has always been primarily a vocal art-form. Whereas some musicians have pushed tango into the areas of jazz, rock, pop and electronic, Vayo does just the opposite by performing it in a traditional style with traditional acoustic instruments played by authentic "tangueros" from South America.

Vayo also sings 95 percent of the music in Spanish (the original tango language). It does not matter whether you understand the language or not. You will appreciate his singing and the abilities of the musicians. You will feel the passion and soulfulness of the performances. You will feel the love, heartache, happiness, sadness, joy and world-weariness in his voice.
