Huge mistake, advertised good but doesn't do anything well. It struggles cutting through new privet, but the worst is the weight which is all at the top of the device, hence when cutting the end of the blade is dipping downwards and making a groove in what you are trying to cut. Unless you have got the strength of an Ox then don't buy it. There is also a lot of vibration into your arm which is worse because you are holding at shoulder height. Used it once and that was enough to be... (read more)

Bought this to avoid using ladders to trim hedges varying in height from 6feet to 8 feet. The problem with this hedge trimmer is that the electric motor is located at the end of the trimmer, some 3 feet from the switch on the handle at its shortest and 6 feet from this handle when extended. The result is that the hedge trimmer is very heavy to handle and can easily lead to overbalancing. An additional problem has been the locking mechanism on the extendable handle, this has broken and there... (read more)

Bought from tackle my 8ft hedge but tried it out after delivery on a fairly routine privet about 5ft high. The machine failed to cut even this modest growth. It doest cut but tears the privet wether due to a useless cutting edge or too narrow a diameter. Machine is useless so dont even think about it. The good news is that the company I bought it from give me a full refund. (read more)

OMG - Do not buy this product. I waited 5 weeks for it to come back in stock. I used it twice last year and seemed a bit clumsey, hard to start and heavy but I persevered as I was determined to get the value for the money. The harness connecting eye snapped on 2nd use. This year - the petrol pipe disintegrated in the petrol tank, the exhaust manifold wobbled lose - after tightening and adding lock washers it still came lose and has now melted the plastic shroud around the engine. On... (read more)

I fully endorse the comments written above. It is the most useless tool that I have ever bought. The first one that I had shook itself to bits and the plastic exhaust guard melted. They sent me a replacement, a refurbished unit. This is equally bad, if you can get it started. Don't buy one of these. They are cheap and nasty and a complete waste of money. Best spend your money on a Stihl.

Leng of pole approx 6ft plus 18 inches for trimmer head. Excellent reach. Trimmer is light but with such a long pole could be tiresome if a lot of trimming required. I used it on a tall Red Robin tree and found it easy to use. Quality appears good although I have only used it for a short time. Adjustment of lenght requres an allen key so you need to plan beforehand as you cannot flick from one lenght to another very quickly but did not find this a serious disadvantage (read more)

This product is total rubbish and do not get suckered into buying it. Mine was delivered without the petrol supply pipes being connected and never had been, so how had it been tested. The carburettor shook loose and almost fell off on its third use. The product can not be used in any position other than keeping the motor upright otherwise it will stop. Petrol leaks from the tank making it dangerous. The stop button has failed and the only way to stop the m/c is to either run out of petrol or... (read more)

I totally agree with you!
Mine is an EA001 model and my carburettor has dropped off after only ten uses in two years! One of the bolts has severed off and left the piece in the threaded hole which cannot be removed!
Maybe we can get as many complaints together and approach a consumer group, as it looks like Eckman are producing sub-standard goods?

I bought the Eckman extendable hedge trimmer and lopper kit and all I can say is this is GARBAGE.
DO NOT GET SUCKED INTO THIS CHEAP RUBBISH!!!!!!
Read some reviews about these things and pay a bit more. I wish I did, feel like i've thrown money away. Now I need to start saving all over again.

I saw this advertised in Country Smallholding and was taken in by the advertisement. I wish I had found these reviews before I purchased my petrol powered hedge cutter with all its associated parts. At £239 for all the bits it is not cheap but it is flimsy and has difficulty cutting a privet hedge. The unit ran out of fuel after cutting about a metre of hedging. What I did not realise was that the petrol tank leaked when you moved the unit anywhere beyond horizontal. Once attached to... (read more)

WILL I EVER LEARN TO READ REVIEWS BEFORE I BUY??!! Bought my extendable hedge trimmer from T_2 on eBay to reach the leylandii hedge where my crappy rechargeable trimmers can't reach. I'm female, but very strong and fit and I can't lift or control it once the extension pole is attached.
Also, because of the circles on the end of the teeth, the width of twig that fits into the mouth for cutting is tiny. It will easily cut branches 5mm wide, but the second you reach something (even soft...

The hedge trimmer was bought as a Christmas present for me 13 months latter and used no more than 10 times smoke poured out of the motor housing. I contacted the company but they said it was out of warranty so we cant help you. I have sent a letter to the MD and am still awaiting a reply. So if you want a product which lasts 13 months then fails and the company tell you to "take it to a repairer" this is just the thing for you!!!! (read more)

I bought the Eckman extendable hedge trimmer and lopper kit from Technologyinthehome and am regretting the purchase. The equipment is about what you'd expect for the money but in my case, I've been waiting over five weeks for a spare part. The plastic cover holding the chain in place shattered on second use. The helpline were very helpful and said they'd dispatch a replacement but five weeks, numerous calls and email, I'm still waiting. The call centre staff will say the part will be... (read more)

This hedge cutter is a load of rubbish. My partner thought it looked the best thing since sliced bread but very soon changed his mind when he tried it this afternoon.
I contacted the firm to send it back but we were too late (you have 14 days to decide, but the hedge didnt want cutting until today)they were completely umhelpful and said they couldnt have it back.
I think the whole thing is a complete con and we have ended up with nearly one hundred pounds down the drain.I was even told if we...

Ordered and received the Eckman Add-It-2 from T2Direct.
I accept that the device will not be fantastic as it is not expensive (vizaviz Stihl) but I did expect reasonable performance. The weakness in my experience is the power unit motor which has failed after a very short period of operation in the two units I have tried.
T2Direct were very quick to replace the first faulty unit and I now have to negotiate for replacement of a secont one.
Would not recommend.

my farther just bought one of these, but it wont work the top trigger has to be pulled so hard to make it work makeing it impossible to use,and the only way to get it to run is to pull the trigger at the far edge as tight as you can pushing it further than it is ment to,and even if it is faulty they want you to pay £10 to return it,my final conclusion is it is a heap of cheap chinese rubish and not wouldent have one if it was free (read more)

I couldn't disagree more with the two reviews already left for the Eckman hedge trimmer.
I can only assume that these chaps were unfortunate enough to receive a faulty unit (which does happen from time-to-time, no matter what you buy and where you buy it from), as what they are describing seems a million miles away from what I received and what I've been using for the past 6 months or so.
First things first; this hedge trimmer IS heavy and is probably not suitable for elderly people. But...

Having just read JHFC's review, I could just write "Ditto" as I doubt I can match his eloquence in describing rubbish. But..............
I cannot even give it any good points as when the cutter (hahaha) arrived I was away and so missed the 14 day returns period.
I did expect the machine (hahaha) to be somewhat top heavy with the motor being at the top. What I wasn't prepared for though was the fact that the blades would not cut any type of vegetation. I tried the Eckman Long-Reach Electric...

If you have found this review as a result of looking around to see if these eckman long reach hedge trimmers are any good, then you're in luck. I'm just about to save you £90.
I bought mine from www.technologyinthehome.com and read through the reviews on their site to make sure I wasn't going to end up with a white elephant. It was mentioned a number of times that this hedge trimmer is quite heavy, and I did note the specified weight, but decided that it shouldn't be a problem. That was...

Sadly, we didn't read any reviews before buying as we were so excited to be able to get a reasonably priced trimmer which would enable us to cut the top of our hawthorn hedge without dangling off a set of step ladders.
All that is said about this thing is true....as heavy as a Sherman tank and as weak as a kitten when faced with a twig to cut!! After just a few minutes use and 2 or 3 chopped off leaves, my husband sank to the ground, weakened by the effort required to keep the triimmer upright....no wonder the instructions warn you to keep anything breathing well out of the way!! I decided that we would do best to cut our losses, spend £10 to return the thing (which seems a bit cheeky when the trimmer is not fit for purpose and should not be available to buy) and get a refund. When speaking to the girl at T2Direct, she suggested that it might be a little heavy if we were elderly (!!) but surely these are the people it is meant to help.....and what if I tried to use it??? (A 9 stone female!). This company must be fully aware of the problems yet they insist on selling it....Here's hoping that some TV reporter buys it and then we can have some fun watching him demonstrating it to a massive audience!!

What a thoroughly entertaining, but also enlightening review. I was going to purchase one of these 'machines', however this and the other comments on this site have saved the cash from being hoovered out of my wallet and subsequently spent on what appears to be complete rubbish. And allegedly dangerous rubbish at that.

I've had the same problem with mine - it's flippin' dangerous! I only used it for 5 minutes and had to give up. What makes me laugh is the online ad shows a young girl using the thing - I reckon a 6ft bloke would have trouble with it. Eckman should be done under the Trades Descriptions Act.
