I have also lost money to CCE but I also think that Barclays Bank should also take some of the blame, CCE have been struggling for a while now and yet Barclays(cce bANK) for which I am a customer still transfered money into CCE account right up to the day before they went into liquidation. I had used Crown Currency Exchange on the 9th September to purchase dollars for a coming holiday. These were delivered promptly on the day specified and everything was in order. So no reason to mistrust them for a further order. I ordered another amount of dollars on 19th September for delivery in November. I too did not find out the Company had gone 'bust' until I tried to go on their website. I was horrified! I had used them before with no problems so I trusted them with 2 large Euro orders for the (part) purchase of a permanent home in France.£35,000 to be precise. My last order was taken on 28 September, only days before the 'crash', why did they do it? If I had known the Company was in trouble I wouldnt have bothered and saved myself a lot of worry and stress and still have my money. (read more)

I know it must be hard for those folks who have lost money due to Crown's demise, but I can only praise the company for their speedy delivery of our travel money in the end of September. I of course did not know of any impending colapse. However, advice to would be purchasers, is always based on trading as of the day it is given, not necessarly the day it is broadcast. My comisserations to those unfortunate to lose their funds in this case.

I responded to adverts claiming that there was cancelled contracts.
Now I read in the news that there was no evidence of any contracts being cancelled. it is very confusing to understand why the compamny would keep accepting customers money and then all of a sudden it all dissapears. There has to be definitely some type of Fruad behind this and could be a Scam.

Written on: 11/10/2010

I found this review very helpful because...
I have also been taken in by the promise of preferential Forex rates from cancelled contracts. I am over £500 out of pocket currently, having been promised an exchange rate of 1.23 euros to £ when rates were running at ~ 1.15.
I have received reasonable service in the past from this company so don't know if this is a scam or attempt at fraud yet.
Suggestion of pursuing this matter via small claims court does sound appealing. Don't know if we could pursue this as a group or if it has to be done individually. I will follow all correspondence on Facebook.

I apologise for using your review, on which to post a warning.

None of the 13000 customers robbed by 'Benstead & his Forty Thieves', should be pleased to see MCR appointed to administer the business. They couldn't manage a 'traffic jam' - because, they charge £500 an hour for their time!

Note the 26 week estimate before information will be released! Assume a 40 hour week, times 5 day week, times 26 weeks, times £500 = 5200 hours at £500 per hour. £2.6 million pounds!

Are we to be submitted to a double robbery? That, remaining £3 million, is not for those Vultures. The Police are welcome to the funds - not the 'toothless parasites' who pretend to justify their existence, and their BMW's, on the amount of effort they put in!.

I re-iterate, had the amount been larger, MCR would have extended their 'time-scale' to absorb the money involved.

Obviously, none of us will receive a penny. The Bensteads, and the parasites they generate behind their failed businesses, have us totally 'cleaned-out'.

Strange to say. Should there not be enough money in the 'Frozen Account's' Nobody would be appointed! This really does 'smell?'

Daitheboots's Response to sueie's Review

Written on: 07/10/2010

One word - 'Banks.' They write their own rules, and, are NEVER prosecuted for malpractice. In this instance, a Director, of a business the Banks know intimately, has to notify them that 'all is not well'. Upon which, the Bank suspend the operation. Not before the Data Base has established who the Cornish customers were, so that they may be refunded, before the scheduled collapse, and, the necessary funds secreted, to pay staff a three month 'bonanza'. Pre-meditated Fraud. Not a simple misguided company - a cynical scheming conglomerate.

Why the preference for Cornish customers? To minimise the number of un-welcome visitors to the County, looking for the Bensteads. Why the three months pay in advance? To buy silence, and see the SCAM through to the last seconds.

At least the Benstead brood, can rest assured, they are publicised. The French Connection is well noted, as are the re-distribution of share-holdings. Much, much, more, to follow.

Written on: 08/10/2010

I don't know if the previous failed. Barclays Bank had better put some powerful arguments together, as to why this 'slime-bag' was allowed to function, under their auspices. Vetting of customers? You must be joking! Ask a newly qualified 'bricky' about the vetting he has to under-go. Compare that, with the ready acceptance of known scum. There has to be something wrong with a system that cannot identify fraudsters, from available data!

Oh Yes, I forgot. The Business Model! The Bank's Love this' Do they monitor it, as it starts to progress? Seems not, in this case. Who is at fault?

My 'heart bleeds' for folk destroyed by these un-feeling people. The 'saving grace' is, that, they are mostly in the embrace of family.

If you are handling nothing else but money 'flowing-in' and, encouraged to offer clients even more 'Special Offers' then, you are part of the Sales Force - operating under the same fraudulent system. The staff working for this enterprise, knew exactly what they were doing, and, what their rewards would be, when the collapse occurred.
The Serious Fraud Squad should look very carefully at ALL the participant's in this 'SCAM'. Have you ever heard of a business collapse, where not a single employee, has made a complaint?

For this 'scam' to work, you needed a team 'sworn to secrecy'. Forget the 'redundancy' talk. They were given three months salary, in lieu. What sort of business would have assured staff of a three month salary pay-out- on the collapse of the business. Sorry, they are ALL participants in a Fraud, constructed by the 'Benstead Family'.

Written on: 06/10/2010

SUBJECT CROWN CURRENCY. I returned from holiday having finalised for the purchase of a holiday home. On Sept.24th I phoned CROWN CURRENCY, with whom I had previosly dealt with satisfatorily, for a quote for '300,000, to be sent by Sept.28th. I was told that they could not send it until 10th Oct., so I went elswhere. If they where totally dishonest couldn`t they have just taken my money? Well they didn`t, so it might be interesting to see what finally happens. I have been extremely lucky and... (read more)

“I've used CCE frequently, the last being for holidays...”

Written on: 06/10/2010

I've used CCE frequently, the last being for holidays last July. However, I have always been wary of them because they were not bonded, would not accept credit or debit cards as a means of payment meaning you were basically unprotected if it all went belly up. I just found out yesterday that crown exhange had gone into administration and like many others have now lost £1500.00. Got an email from them before I ordered saying they had surplus euros at good rate.On phoning them was told this was a cancellation order and this was the reason why the rate was so good (1.2452) I also checked Martin Lewis site and I did not read any problems with Crown Exchange They should be made to pay every penny back to all,no matter how long it takes. I found this review very helpful because... it did reveal a ploy used by C.C.E. to extract even more cash from its customers. I too, was induced to 'take-up' a cancellation in the amount of £1000.00, for delivery on the 4th October
