This company are fantastic if you just want to borrow £100 to tide you over but beware.... This can snowball and before you know you owe them £367 because it's just too tempting to top up that loan when you are short. I have spent most of this evening fretting over awful reviews of this company and nearly crying over horror stories of them clearing bank accounts as soon as funds are available. Wonga advertise that they can have the funds in your account in as little as one hour. It's now 3 days later and they STILL haven't shown up. When I called to see what was happening the representative was rude and did NOTHING to help me resolve the situation I needed the small loan to help cover a really last minute trip to Toronto which was happening before my pay check arrived. My pay check arrived AND I had my trip and the loan still isn't here. I will NEVER borrow from Wonga again. (read more)

Wonga are ok if you need some cash for a couple days, as i did, unfortunaly i was hit by a large bill for a car MOT and could not pay Wonga. I was happy as they set up a repayment plan and froze my interest but i received a random email from them a few weeks later with a completly new repayment plan where the fourtly amounts had doubled! This is a new feature to Wonga since they were told to change their ways. What is good about it is people who have lent too much can pay it back in installments but it will effect your credit rating, because it means you defaulted on your loan.
In the past they continued to take funds randomly until the amount was paid. This feature came in over the last couple of months.

Well, if Wonga is not responding to your inquiries, please, contact the financial-ombudsman.

I absolutely support you on this that it's a small amount of £30, but principal is more than money sometimes.

Do the following:
Explain it all by calling, or better by writing to Financial Ombudsman and adding any e-mails received from Wonga confirming that you repaid them (Wonga) in full and copies of all the illegal charges from your account after that final full repayment date (the £30).

Or you can call once again to Wonga and ask them to return your £30, or you will contact Financial Ombudsman in regards to this matter and also you will ask Ombudsman to get you the compensation for your time taken up (£10/hour) to retrieve your rightful money (the £30).

So you pick what you want to do.

Wonga is one of only a few companies that seem to offer real quick transfers, once approved it really can take just 15 minutes day or night, this is if you meet the automated systems requirments. I took out a loan with Wonga, initially for £300. However, I took out further increments up to £1,000 using their clever 'top-up' service. It is clever too, as the money is there, you're tempted to take it and they know it!! Hi, the best thing you can do is open a new bank account with a different bank. Even a basic account would do. Then arrange to have your pay sent to this account and clear out the account linked to your Wonga loan. Sure you will get lots of emails, texts and possibly calls, but only deal with them in WRITING and make them aware of this. Offer them a payment plan and they will, eventually, agree to one. It could take a lot of effort, but they would prefer that you want to pay than not want to. I offered them a 6 month plan but they actually offered me back a 12 month plan, which made things a LOT easier. To be fair, they were good with my situation and didn't badger me for more money and the only communications were offers to settle in full for a lesser amount, if you can afford it that is. I would certainly recommend opening the new bank a/c. If you don't have time, then extend what you owe for a month until you can sort one. OK, it will cost you more in interest, but will give you some breathing space. Good luck!

Written on: 28/01/2013

Who in their right mind would paid 17.5 percent for a $500 loan for a MONTH.In the meantime governments are looking into credit cards rates that are at worst, 28% a YEAR. But wonga is allowed to open up shop in Canada without batting an eye!thats capitalism I guess , P.T. Barnum said it best "there is a sucker born every minute" (read more)

“Don't do it!!!!”

Written on: 23/01/2013 by Thethirteenth (1 review written)

I took at a small loan to begin with but as things progressed I kept borrowing to pay back the money I owed and to cover my bills this began to spiral out of control till the point I couldn't handle the repayments. If it hasn't been for my parents stepping in and saving me I'd be basically hiding from bailiffs. I'd say this do not use them the quick fix is never the right one look long term and if you find yourself short one month ask for help from someone who will listen and agree a way to... (read more)

“Loans on JSA”

Written on: 15/01/2013 by Suzanne63 (1 review written)

I am absolutely disgusted with this lot. Just found out my 18yr old son was granted a payday loan from Wonga. HE IS ON JOB SEEKERS ALLOWANCE and I assumed that my son had somehow lied on his application. He hadn't, I checked, they have a drop down box to lend to people on Jobseekers. THIS MUST BE STOPPED!!! How can a company LEGALLY lend to people who actually have no way of paying the money back. My son doesn't have the money to pay them back in one go, as you can imagine, so Wonga... (read more)

Stay clear , got a payday loan , released once it processed that it was due to take it out 1 day earlier before payday , contact the customer care team to advise them of this , the exact words was I can't help you !!!! For a £200 loan I ended up paying £273 back , £23 being a late payment charge , absolutely disgusting I will not be using them again and will ensure I write a review about this company everywhere I can !!!! Customer service is appalling!!!! Stay clear (read more)

“Horrible robbing untrustworthy”

Written on: 12/01/2013

I am a student and shortly before Christmas I had decided to take a short loan with Wonga as at the time this seemed the quickest and easiest option. Got the loan and no problem up until I tried to repay the balance early. I chose this early repayment option and everything seemed fine and my account status was £0 owing thus there was nothing else I could do on that page. However, on the agreed payment date I received a message telling me to pay or I will be charged £25. Which was bizarre... (read more)

“Danger! Fraudsters! Avoid! Keep AWAY! Sharks!”

Written on: 23/12/2012 by shades78 (1 review written)

I had been a regular customer of wonga for over a year, always paying on or before time. I had found their system and service swift and useful until.... On 12th Dec 2012 I took out a £500 loan to cover bills and christmas. The date agreed to pay back was Jan 7th 2013. On the 19th Dec, one week later I noticed that £96.58 had been taken back by wonga - straight from my account. I had neither made, planned for or given authorisation for this payment to be made! After calling their "help"... (read more)
