“I shall not be coming back to The Real Greek. My...”

I shall not be coming back to The Real Greek. My partner and I are pretty clued up on Greek cuisine, we have many Greek friends and have both visited Greece so have a very good idea what authentic Greek dishes are like. This place was a huge disappointment and tasted nothing like "Real Greek" as its namesake suggests.

I always wanted to come here as I am a big fan of Greek cuisine and walked by this restaurant many times on the south bank. It has the option of eating within or alfresco. Upon our first visit the place was quite empty as it were a Sunday evening we were not welcomed upon entry and was left standing there for a while until we became fed up and found our own seats, we sat down on an outside table for a good 10-15 minutes before a waiter threw down our menus, we asked if we could move indoors as it was getting a bit chilly, so we were moved onto a table which had a sticky feel to it and had clearly not been cleaned properly. We ordered some mezes (Greek Tapas) it took a very long time to come to our table, at first we ordered the Houmous, the tzaziki and the flat break, the portions were tiny and the houmous in particular lacking in flavour, we had to go up and ask the waiter for lemons to put on it because clearly no one was going to come over to us. Then after what felt like an eternity the wraps arrived (the lamb in them was very tough and tasted horrid), the rice (which had a nice flavour but had burnt clumps of rice around it) the warm salad arrived, it was the wrong salad so it was returned and it took a further 10 minutes or so for the right one. Everything was so small, it was like child portions, in particular the salad £3.95 was the salad which consisted of a couple of slices of betroot scattered around a few warmed up lettuce leaves which tasted of washing up liquid.

The meal here ended up pretty expensive, we were left unsatisfied and within half an hour we were hungy again. The waiters and waitresses here are inpolite and spend more time talking amongst themselves than seeing to their diners.

The restaurant itself looks good but more emphasis should be put on the food they serve.

AVOID.
